Mystery happens not only in the movies. It happens in real life, and it happens even on a particularly large scale. Historical documents record many inexplicable cases that occurred during the war. Under mysterious circumstances, people, tanks, planes and ships disappeared. Until now, many of these events have no logical explanation.
Philadelphia experiment, the mystery of the destroyer "Eldridge"
There are many urban legends around this event, and information about what really happened is still classified. From the available information, the following is known: in 1943, scientists decided to conduct an experiment to demagnetize the ship, or, as they say, "degaussing", making the ship invisible to the magnetic fuse of mines and torpedoes. To do this, four powerful generators of electromagnetic oscillations were installed on board the destroyer Eldridge, which, according to the scientists, were supposed to create an invisible "electromagnetic cocoon" around the ship.
But something went wrong: first, the ship was enveloped in a caustic haze, then the Eldridge simply disappeared. In some incredible way, four hours later, the ship materialized at a distance of tens of kilometers from the test site at the Norfolk base.
From the crew of 181 people, only 21 sane sailors remained, the rest went crazy, either grew into the bulkheads and structural elements of the ship (27 people), or died from radiation, burns and electric shock (13 people).
The US Navy does not confirm or deny the information about the experiment, and the sailors themselves, who served on the destroyer Eldridge, say that there was no experiment.
3,000 Chinese soldiers never seen again
Almost an entire division of Chinese soldiers disappeared without a trace during the Sino-Japanese War in 1937. Chinese General Li Fu Shi sent a division of 3,000 men to stop the Japanese advance on Nanjing. And in the morning the orderly reported to the commander that there was not a single soldier in the positions. At the same time, there were no traces of a night battle, no corpses. Such a number of soldiers simply could not leave their positions unnoticed and at the same time not leave any traces. After the war, the Chinese government initiated an investigation into this incident, but to no avail.
Disappearance of a battalion of the Norfolk Regiment
An entire battalion of the Norfolk Regiment disappeared on August 12, 1915 during the Dardanelles operation. Moreover, this inexplicable phenomenon happened in front of eyewitnesses - soldiers of the New Zealand unit, who were on the front line in the area of \u200b\u200b"Hill 60" when the Norfolk were preparing to attack Turkish positions.
After the war, New Zealand veterans said that on that day 6 or 8 clouds hung over "Hill 60" in the form of "round loaves of bread", which did not change their location, despite the wind. Missing "Unebi"
The disappearance of ships in the ocean is a fairly common phenomenon, especially in the Bermuda Triangle. However, the armored cruiser Unebi stands alone in this list. The ship went missing while sailing from Singapore to the South China Sea in December 1886, the only time in the history of the Japanese Navy that it disappeared without a trace.
No wreckage or dead bodies were found at the site of the alleged loss of the ship. The armored cruiser was well armed and could stand up for itself, and its crew included from 280 to 400 experienced sailors. To this day, not a single fragment of the Unebi has been found, so the ship is considered missing, and a monument to sailors has been erected at the Aoyama cemetery in Tokyo.

Under mysterious circumstances, five Avenger torpedo bombers and a PBM-5 Martin Mariner seaplane sent to search for them disappeared.
Events unfolded as follows: On December 5, 1945, a group of Avengers received a training mission to fly east from the Naval Air Station at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to bomb near Bimini Island, and then fly some distance to north and back.
The link took off at 14 hours 10 minutes, the pilots were given two hours to complete the task, during which time they had to cover about 500 kilometers. At 1600, when the Avengers were supposed to return to base, the controllers intercepted disturbing conversations between the commander of Flight 19 and another pilot - it seems that the pilots lost their bearings.
Later, the commander contacted the base, saying that compasses and clocks were out of order on all bombers. And this is very strange, because the Avengers had quite serious equipment at that time: gyrocompasses and AN / ARR-2 radio semi-compasses.
However, the flight commander, Lieutenant Charles Taylor, reported that he was unable to determine where the west was, and the ocean looked unusual. Further negotiations did not lead to anything, only at 17.50 at the air base they were able to detect a weak signal from the flight aircraft. They were east of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and moving away from the mainland.
Somewhere around 20.00, the torpedo bombers ran out of fuel, and they were forced to splash down, the further fate of the Avengers and their pilots is unknown.
The Martin Mariner plane sent to search for the missing also disappeared, however, on one of the ships that was in the search area, they saw an explosion in the air, perhaps this was the ill-fated PBM-5. However, the pilots themselves called the "Martin Mariner" a "flying gas tank", so its loss is quite understandable.
But there is a lot of obscurity in what happened to the Avengers: what caused the failure of navigation instruments operating on different principles? What was wrong with the ocean and why did the pilots get lost in places they knew? There is also a legend that a radio amateur intercepted a message from the commander of Flight 19: "Do not follow me ... They look like people from the Universe ..."
By the way, in 2010, the Deep Sea search vessel discovered four Avengers lying in formation at a depth of 250 meters, 20 kilometers northeast of Fort Lauderdale. The fifth torpedo bomber lay two kilometers from the crash site.
The side numbers of two of them were FT-241, FT-87, and on two more, only the numbers 120 and 28 could be seen, the designation of the fifth could not be identified. After the researchers raised the archives, it turned out that five Avengers disappeared only once - on December 5, 1945, but the identification numbers of the vehicles found and Unit 19 did not match, except for one - FT-28, the aircraft of commander Charles Taylor, but what's the most. the rest of the planes were not among the missing.

The coal incident is not the only curiosity in England. For example, in 1979 it rained seeds in Southampton. 8th place. The mysterious death of Netta Fornario
November 1929
The main character of the following strange story is Nora Emily Edita "Netta" Fornario, a writer who considered herself a healer, a resident of London. In August or September 1929, she left London for Iona, an island off the west coast of Scotland, where she died under mysterious circumstances. Among the versions of her death are psychic murder, heart failure, the action of hostile spirits.
Arriving on Iona, Netta set about exploring the island. During the day she traveled, and at night she searched for traces of the spirits of the island, with whom she tried in every possible way to contact. Her search dragged on for several weeks, after which, on November 17, her behavior changed dramatically. Netta hastily packed up her things and intended to head back to London. She told her friend, Mrs. McRae, that she was telepathically wounded after receiving messages from other worlds. It happened at night, so Mrs. McRae, apparently looking at the chic silver jewelry of the healer and fearing for her health, persuaded her to go on the road in the morning.
The next day, Netta went missing. Her body was later found on a "fairy mound" near Loch Staonaig. The corpse lay on a cross made of turf, completely naked under a black cloak, covered with scratches and abrasions. There was a knife nearby. The legs were beaten to the blood, as a result of jogging over rough terrain. Was Netta killed by a maniac, died of hypothermia, or by an absurd accident, is unknown. After finishing breakfast, farmer William Hackler, a resident of Indiana (USA), went outside to get some fresh air. After leaving the house, he felt that his clothes smelled of smoke. Without paying much attention to it, he went to the barn. A few minutes later he returned back to the house, where we found a fire in the bedroom (the house was without electricity) - the walls were burning. The local fire brigade quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. But that was only the beginning of a hard day for the Hacklers...
Immediately after the fire engine left, a mattress caught fire in the guest room. The fire was located directly inside the mattress. Fires broke out in various places (including under the cover of the book) and rooms throughout the day. By evening, the number of extinguished fires reached 28. Having played enough, the fiery poltergeist no longer disturbed Mr. Hackler and his family. The same, in turn, demolished the old wooden house and built a new one in its place, from non-combustible lumber.
6th place. Third Eye
November 1949
Students of one of the universities of South Carolina in the city of Columbia (USA) returned late at night from the theater on Longstreet. At one point, they froze in place, confronted by a strange man in a silver suit, who then moved the cover of a nearby manhole and disappeared into the sewers. From that moment on, the strange man was nicknamed "the sewer man". A little later, this "character" again made it known about its existence, but in a more terrible case. In April 1950, in one of the lanes, a policeman noticed a man near a pile of mutilated chicken carcasses. It happened in the dark, the policeman sent a flashlight in the direction of an incomprehensible object, and was stunned when he saw a man with three eyes. The third eye showed off right in the center of the forehead. While the policeman came to his senses and called for reinforcements on the radio, the mysterious creature disappeared from view.
The third meeting with the "sewer man" took place in the 60s in the tunnels under one of the universities. After the tunnels were carefully examined, but no clear evidence of the existence of a three-eyed man was found. Who or what is he? Human? Ghost? Alien? The victims of an unknown, but very real criminal, were 26 persons, whose bodies felt all the pain and anguish from powerful blows of sharp weapons.
The attacker did not adhere to a specific type of victim, women were chosen spontaneously and randomly. While the victim screamed in pain and came to his senses, the perpetrator quickly ran away, not allowing himself to be identified. Police investigations led nowhere, the identity of the "stylet tormentor" was never identified. In the summer of 1928, the attacks changed dramatically and were never repeated. Who knows, maybe the maniac got old and artosis began to torment him ...

Do you think "X" people are fiction? Wrong, some of the characters are quite real. At least one. A fourteen-year-old resident of La Perriere in Normandy began to frighten her comrades with unusual abilities: approaching her, people received electric shocks, chairs moved away when she tried to sit down, some objects soared into the air as if they were light and weightless floats. Later, Angelina received the nickname "electric girl".
Not only those around, but also the girl herself suffered from the unusual abilities of the body. She often suffered from convulsions. In addition, by attracting various objects to herself, Angelina received painful injuries. Parents considered their daughter possessed by the devil and took her to church, but the priest convinced the unfortunate that the reason for their child's abnormality lies not in spirituality, but in physical features.
After listening to the rector, the parents took their daughter to the scientists in Paris. After examination, the famous physicist Francois Arago concluded that the unusual qualities of the girl are associated with electromagnetism. The adventures of Mrs. Williamson did not end there. On the same day, the pants in her closet burned to the ground. The trials by fire continued the next day, when, in the presence of witnesses, for unknown reasons, a bed and curtains in another room caught fire. Spontaneous combustion continued for three days, after which the Williamsons surrendered to an unknown element and left the house. The housing was examined by firefighters and police, no reasons for what was happening were identified. On the fifth day, the fires stopped by themselves and no longer disturbed the owners of the house. Thankfully, no one was hurt by the fire.

We note right away that we are not talking about blind people who have learned to read special books by moving their fingers along the bulges on paper, but about a completely ordinary girl, sighted and healthy. The originality of Margaret Foos was that she could read ordinary books blindfolded. Her father called this phenomenon psychic vision through the skin. He himself taught his daughter this incredible skill and hurried to prove the uniqueness of the method to scientists.
In 1960, Mr. Foos arrived with his daughter in Washington DC to participate in a scientific study. For the duration of the experiment, psychiatrists put on Margaret's eyes "fool protection" - a tight bandage. For the purity of the experience, the father was taken to the next room. Blindfolded, using only her fingers, the girl was able to read the pages of the Bible, kindly provided by scientists. After that, she was offered to play checkers, recognize different pictures, with which Margaret successfully coped.
Despite the fact that the girl managed to pass all the tests, psychiatrists could not explain how she managed to do this. They insisted on their own, arguing that it was impossible to see without eyes, that what was happening was a deception.

For two years, a mysterious "ghost sniper" terrorized the residents of Camden, New Jersey. The first incident occurred in November 1927, when Albert Woodruff's car was shot at with a gun. The windows of the car were riddled with bullets, but the investigation did not yield any results - not a single cartridge case was found at the scene. Later, two city buses, windows of houses and shop windows were damaged by mysterious shelling. As in the first case, the perpetrators and shell casings were not found. The good news is that no one was hurt by the actions of a ghost or a real criminal.
The mysterious sniper hunted not only in Camden, residents of the cities of Lindenwood and Collingswood, New Jersey, as well as Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, suffered from his tricks. Most often, the victims were private cars and urban transport (buses, trolleybuses), residential buildings. Only in one of many cases did the witness hear the shots, but did not see anything or anyone.
The attacks stopped abruptly in 1928. Later, people suffered only from abnormal imitators who wanted to act as the famous "ghost sniper".
In the Sahara desert in Egypt lie the oldest known, astronomically aligned, rocks in the world: the Nabta. A thousand years before the creation of Stonehenge, people built a stone circle and other structures on the shore of the lake, which has long since dried up. Over 6,000 years ago, stone slabs three meters high were dragged over a kilometer to create this place. The depicted stones are only a part of the entire complex that has been preserved. Although the Western Egyptian Desert is completely dry at present, it was not so in the past. There is good evidence that there have been several wet cycles in the past (when up to 500 mm of precipitation fell per year). The most recent dates back to the interglacial period and the time of the beginning of the last glaciation, which was approximately 130,000 to 70,000 years ago. During this period, the area was a savannah and supported the life of numerous animals such as extinct bison and large giraffes, antelopes of various species and gazelles. Starting around the 10th millennium BC, this area of the Nubian desert began to receive more rainfall, filling the lakes. Early humans may have been attracted to the region by the sources of drinking water. Archaeological finds may indicate that human activity in the area is known from at least sometime between the 10th and 8th millennium BC.
Chinese mosaic of lines.
These strange lines are located at 40°27"28.56"N, 93°23"34.42"E. There is not much information available about this "strangeness", but a beautiful mosaic of lines does exist, it carved in the desert of Gansu Sheng province in China. Some records indicate that the "lines" were created in 2004, but nothing seems to be found to officially support this assumption. It should be noted that these lines are located near the Mogao Cave, which is a World Heritage Site. The lines stretch for a very long distance, and at the same time retain their proportions, despite the curvature of the rough terrain.

When dirt was brushed off the stone, on its chip was clearly visible somehow got inside ... a bolt! About a centimeter long. How did he get there? A bolt with a nut on the end (or - what this thing also looked like - a coil with a rod and two disks) was tight. This means that he got inside the stone back in those days when it was only sedimentary rock, bottom clay.

No one, not even NASA, has yet been able to explain this. It's best to just watch and marvel at the moving rocks in this dry lake in Death Valley National Park. The bottom of Racetrack Playa is almost flat, 2.5 km north to south and 1.25 km east to west, and is covered with cracked mud. The stones move slowly along the clay bottom of the lake, as evidenced by the long footprints left behind them. The stones move on their own without the help of others, but no one has ever seen or recorded the movement on camera. Similar movements of stones were recorded in some other places. However, in terms of the number and length of tracks, the dry Lake Racetrack Playa is unique.

A puzzling riddle for science is ... an ordinary-looking hammer. The metal part of the hammer is 15 centimeters long and about 3 centimeters in diameter. It has literally grown into limestone about 140 million years old, and is stored along with a piece of rock. This miracle caught the eye of Mrs. Emma Hahn in June 1934 in the rocks near the American town of London, Texas. The experts who examined the find came to a unanimous conclusion: a hoax. However, further research conducted by various scientific institutions, including the famous Battele laboratory (USA), showed that everything is much more complicated. Firstly, the wooden handle on which the hammer is mounted has already petrified on the outside, and inside it has completely turned into coal . So, its age is also calculated in millions of years. Secondly, the specialists of the Metallurgical Institute in Columbus (Ohio) were amazed by the chemical composition of the hammer itself: 96.6% iron, 2.6% chlorine and 0.74% sulfur. No other impurities could be identified. Such pure iron has not been obtained in the entire history of terrestrial metallurgy. Not a single bubble was found in the metal. The quality of iron, even by modern standards, is exceptionally high and raises many questions, since the content of metals used in the metallurgical industry in the production of different grades of steel (as, e.g. manganese, cobalt, nickel, tungsten, vanadium or molybdenum). There are also no foreign impurities, and the percentage of chlorine is unusually high. It is also surprising that no traces of carbon have been found in iron, while iron ore from terrestrial deposits always contains carbon and other impurities. Generally speaking, from a modern point of view, it is not of high quality. But here's the detail: the Texas hammer's iron doesn't rust! When in 1934 a piece of rock with an ingrown tool was chipped off the rock, the metal was badly scratched in one place. And over the past sixty-plus years, not the slightest sign of corrosion has appeared on the scratch ... According to Dr. K. E. Buff, director of the Museum of Fossil Antiquities, which houses this hammer, the find comes from the early Cretaceous period - from 140 to 65 million years ago. According to the current state of scientific knowledge, humanity learned to make such tools only 10 thousand years ago. Dr. Hans-Joachim Zilmer from Germany, who studied the mysterious find in detail, concludes: "This hammer was made using an unknown technology."
The highest technology of stone processing
The second group of finds that pose mysteries to scientists are artifacts created after the time of the appearance of man on Earth, accepted today. But the technologies that were used in their creation became known to us relatively recently or are still unknown. The most famous find of this group can be called a crystal skull, found in 1927 in Belize during excavations of the Mayan city of Lubaantuma. The skull is carved from a piece of pure quartz and measures 12x18x12 centimeters. In 1970, the skull was analyzed in the Hewlett-Packard laboratory. The results were stunning. The skull was created without respecting the natural crystal axis, which is impossible in modern crystallography. When working on the skull, no metal instruments were used.
