The Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum is one of the oldest regional museums in Russia. The initiative for its creation belongs to two artists who laid the foundation for the collection - Professor of the Academy of Arts Nikolai Andreyevich Koshelev (1840-1918) and historical painter Andrei Andreyevich Karelin (1866-1928), son of the famous Nizhny Novgorod photographer A.O. Karelin.

Svetlana Anatolyevna Ushkova (1969-2018) - graphic artist, master book illustration. The exposition presents works made in various graphic techniques: pastel, acrylic, collage. The main direction of Svetlana Ushkova's work is an illustration for a children's book. Technique chosen by the author for this species book graphics, is unique. From a variety of details (pieces of fabric, beads, sequins, threads, etc.) bright and funny illustrations were created for the fairy tales of the peoples of the world, for children's books about great musicians and scientists. Unusual collages by Svetlana Ushkova come to life on the pages of books and retain the special charm of the characters. The exhibition presents both the author's collages and the books for which they were created. Easel graphics, made in the technique of oil pastels, shows lyrical theme in the artist's work, built on color contrasts and mobile plastic forms. Svetlana Ushkova devoted a lot of time to flowers. They were a constant source for her. creative inspiration. A large series of flowers and bouquets created by the author in her last summer exhibited for the first time.

Exhibition of works by one of the most famous portrait painters in the history of Russian art - Vasily Tropinin (1780-1857). This is the first a joint project NGKhM and the Museum of V.A. Tropinin and Moscow artists of his time (Moscow). The work of Vasily Tropinin is presented in different contexts: historical time and literature, travel and contemporaries. Tropinin's heritage includes about 3,000 works, and his name is inextricably linked with Moscow and the artistic environment of the first half of XIX V. Spectators are waiting for an unusual display of the work, which the master repeated more than once. Two "Lacemakers" - from the collections of the National State Art Museum and the Tropinin Museum - will meet for the first time in one exhibition space. Details of these genre compositions will be presented in technical and technological materials (fragments and radiographs of paintings), which will allow for the first time to trace all the differences between the two works. For visually impaired visitors, a 3D copy of the painting "The Lacemaker" with a description in Braille will be exhibited. The paintings by S. Shchedrin, V. Raev and others will take their places in the exposition. An integral part of the exhibition is paintings and drawings of the first half 19th century from the collection of the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum. In total, the exhibition presents 34 works by V. Tropinin and artists of his time.
