Seer Astrology by David Frawley. Astrology of the Seers

Dr David Frawley- one of the few Westerners recognized in India as Vedacharya - teacher of Vedic wisdom. In 1991, under the patronage of the Indian teacher Avadhut Shastri, he received the spiritual name Vamadeva Shastri, in honor of the Vedic sage, (rishi) Vamadeva. In 1995 in Mumbai he was awarded the title of Pandit (scholar) and the Brahmachari Vishvanathya award for his knowledge of Vedic teachings.

In India, Vamadeva is recognized not only as a Vedacharya (teacher of the Vedas), but also as a Vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor), Joytishi (Vedic astrologer), Puranik (Vedic historian) and Yogi. He has been approved as a visiting teacher of Yoga and Vedic Sciences at Bangalore's Vivekananda Yoga Kendra University in India, and as a teacher at Sringeri Shankaracharya Math - mainly traditional Vedic centers in India. His written and oral translations have received wide recognition in both the spiritual and scientific circles of India. In America, he is better known as a teacher, practitioner and author of the first works in the West in the field of Ayurvedic medicine and Vedic astrology (Joytish).

From 1983 to 1986 Dr. Frawley taught regular classes with Dr. Lad as an official employee of his school. Since then, he has remained a guest teacher on the staff of the educational institution. He collaborates with Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon and serves as a faculty member of the Deepak Chopra American Institute of Vedic Sciences of Health and Wellness, which has been headquartered in San Diego since its founding. He also works closely with the California Ayurvedic College, founded by his former student and colleague Dr. Mark Halpern.

Dr. Frawley is one of those rare scientists who, although originally from the West, have been able, nevertheless, to be imbued with the spirit of the East in general and especially with the spirit of India. This advantage allowed him to avoid inappropriate flirtation with the spirit of science and present Jyotish as it should be. Jyotish (Indian astrology), which is the subject of this book, is one of the greatest gifts that India has given to all humanity. But in the West, jyotish remained little known until the 1950s, despite the fact that it is at least 7,000 years old and has long been an integral part of Indian culture and life in general. The English-speaking public first became acquainted with jyotish in the 90s of the 19th century - through the Astrological Magazine, which my great-great-grandfather, Professor Suryanarain Rao, began publishing at that time, as well as thanks to several of his books on this topic. Unfortunately, Astrological Magazine soon ceased publication, and it was not until 1936 that my father, Dr. B.W. Raman, resumed its publication and made it available to readers around the world.

Imagine that each sign is a room, and in the plan you are the lamps in these rooms. No matter where the lamp hangs on the ceiling, the light from it spreads throughout the entire room. The first and last degrees of each sign can be likened to doors. Planets located at such junction points can influence both signs, but outside the narrow zone of “doors” their influence is quite weak.

Determining aspects between signs does not require labor-intensive calculations, or even knowledge of the exact coordinates of the planets. They do not need to be calculated and summarized in a separate table. Vedic horoscopes are not accompanied by an aspectarium, which usually accompanies horoscopes built according to the Western system. And since aspects in Vedic astrology are counted from sign to sign, the total number of possible aspects here turns out to be significantly less than in Western astrology.

In the Vedic system, no particular positive or negative qualities are assigned to the various aspects. Aspects differ here only in strength - both major and minor. Each aspect is an indicator of the connection between the planets. But the nature of this connection depends not on the type of aspect, but on the nature of the planets themselves. Oppositions and squares in Vedic astrology are not considered obviously negative or problematic aspects, and trines are not considered obviously favorable. Everything depends on the quality of the planets forming the aspect. Opposition to a poorly placed Sun in Libra (fall sign) can be very difficult. However, if the Sun is well placed - for example, exalted in Aries - the same opposition can be quite beneficial. A square between Mars in Aries (residence) and Jupiter in Cancer (exaltation) can also manifest itself favorably, since both planets are well placed.

To determine the qualities of an aspect, it is necessary to take into account all possible information about the qualities of the planets forming it. Any aspect from the great malefic - Saturn - more often turns out to be negative than favorable. On the contrary, any aspect from the great benefic - Jupiter - is likely to be beneficial. But the more we study the natural status of the planet and its qualities in the house management system, the more accurate an assessment can be made of the aspects. The aspects of each planet reflect its nature and its manifestations in various areas of life.

In Vedic astrology, it is believed that certain aspects are fully inherent only in certain planets. The general scheme of aspect influences for all planets is the same, but some planets are assigned a monopoly on special aspects, which are much weaker in other planets.

Trines - aspects measuring 120" - are considered specific "full" aspects of Jupiter. Trines of other planets are regarded as weak, minor aspects. And squares - aspects measuring 90° - are fully manifested only by Mars (with planets located in front of it in the course of the signs) and Saturn (with the planets located behind it).Perhaps this is precisely the reason why in Western astrology the trine began to be considered a favorable aspect, and the square - problematic: after all, trines are associated with the beneficial Jupiter, and squares with malefic Mars and Saturn. In Vedic astrology, it is believed that the influence of a planet in aspects extends only forward along the signs of the Zodiac (while in the Western system the aspect is usually considered as a mutual influence). Thus, if Saturn is in 3 ° Gemini, and Mars is at 3° Pisces, then Saturn forms an aspect to Mars of 270° (aspect of the tenth house), and Mars to Saturn forms an aspect of 90° (aspect of the fourth house).

In Western astrology, aspects are interpreted as relationships between planets. In the Vedic system, a planet aspects not only another planet, but also a house (even if there are no planets in it), separated from it by an aspect distance, or more precisely, a sign located on the cusp of this house. Depending on the nature of the aspecting planet, the affairs of this house can either improve or worsen.

The main rule according to which a Vedic astrologer makes judgments on a particular issue is as follows: first the issue is studied in connection with the house to which it belongs, then in connection with the ruler of the house, and then in connection with with the house signifier. At the same time, not only houses from the ascendant are considered, but also houses from the Moon. And for the final answer to the question, aspects to all the mentioned elements of the horoscope are taken into account.

For example, if we are interested in the topic of spirituality or religion, we should study the influences to which the ninth house and its ruler are subject, as well as Jupiter, the significator of the ninth house.

Then the same analysis needs to be carried out in the system of houses from the Moon.

In the course of this study, we must take into account not only the aspects between the planets, but also the whole network of aspect relationships between all the factors of the chart related to the issue of interest to us. Sometimes in Vedic astrology aspects to houses are even more important than aspects between planets.

SEER ASTROLOGY From the point of view of Western astrology, the aspects adopted in the Vedic system may seem too general and non-specific. It may seem that several major aspects between signs do not allow one to create such a detailed picture as the various aspects calculated by degrees. A Western astrologer may wonder how his colleague working in the Vedic system can make accurate judgments and accurate predictions with such a limited range of aspects.

However, we should not forget that Vedic astrology also considers aspects in a whole series of harmonic charts. Thanks to this, it is possible to trace much more subtle relationships and take into account the exact degree distances between planets.

In addition, the relationships between planets in Vedic astrology are studied according to an extensive system of criteria, and aspect relationships are only part of this system. In addition to aspects, friendship and enmity between planets, as well as various yogas, are taken into account.

Major aspects of the planets Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus 7th sign Mars 4th, 7th and 8th signs Jupiter 5th, 7th and 9th signs Saturn 3rd, 7th and 10th 1st sign The basic rule is that each planet aspects the 7th sign, counting from the sign in which it is located. In Western astrology, this aspect is considered as an opposition (180°).

In addition, the outer planets - Mars, Jupiter and Saturn - have special aspects inherent only to them. Mars aspects only the seventh sign, but also the fourth and eighth. The aspect to the fourth sign is similar to the aspect of folding (applicative) quadrature (90°) accepted in the Western system. The aspect to the eighth sign is similar to the quincunx (150°), placed, however, against the course of the signs (that is, along the course of the signs, the distance between Mars and the aspected sign here is 210°).

Jupiter, in addition to the seventh sign, also aspects the fifth and ninth. These aspects are similar to the trines of Western astrology, laid forward and backward from Jupiter. Saturn aspects not only the seventh, but also the third and tenth signs. Its influence on the third sign is similar to the sextile (60°) of Western astrology, but is postponed only forward, along the signs. The aspect of Saturn to the tenth sign is a square, extending only backward, against the course of the signs (that is, along the course of the signs, the distance between Saturn and the aspected sign is 270°).

All of these aspects fall under the category of major, or “full” aspects. Other types of aspects that do not have full strength are classified as “weak” or minor.

Rahu and Ketu usually do not have special aspects, but some Vedic astrologers, including J. N. Bhasin, attributes to them the same aspects as Jupiter, that is, influence on the fifth and ninth signs. However, the Rahu-Ketu axis itself is always important.

Any planet that is in conjunction with one of the lunar nodes automatically finds itself in opposition to the other.

SAMBANDHA: “PERFECT CONNECTION” BETWEEN THE PLANETS For most purposes that may confront a Vedic astrologer, it is sufficient to consider only the complete aspects listed above. The situation when both interacting planets form full aspects to each other is called sambandha - “perfect connection”. Sambandha, or perfect connection, can also arise due to other factors. It is formed, in particular, in the case when two planes are located in each other’s abodes (for example, Jupiter is in Aries, the abode of Mars, and Mars is in Pisces, the abode of Jupiter). Such a connection is similar to a mutual complete aspect. In Western astrology it is called mutual reception. In the Vedic system, this type of connection between planets is one of the strongest.

CONJUNCTION Planets in conjunction are planets located in close proximity to each other. A connection is an extremely close connection. In Vedic astrology it is not classified as an aspect, since it is believed that aspects arise only between points of the horoscope that are noticeably distant from each other. However, along with aspects, conjunction is taken into account as a special type of relationship between planets, equated to a mutual full aspect, and therefore also belonging to the number of “perfect connections” - sambandha.

As with aspects, conjunctions are determined by sign: all planets in the same sign are considered to form a conjunction with each other. However, here too they pay some attention to the degree distance between the planets: the smaller it is, the stronger the connection.

MAJOR AND MINOR ASPECTS OF THE PLANETS All planets influence with full force the seventh sign, which is located, as it were, in the center of their “field of vision”. On the fourth and eighth signs they exert an influence of three-quarters of their full strength.

Aspects to the fifth and ninth signs are twice as weak as the full aspect.

Finally, one quarter of the full influence is made up of aspects to the third and tenth signs.

For Mars, its special aspects, considered “three-quarter” for all other planets, are in full force. In the same way, for Jupiter the “half” aspects become complete, and for Saturn, the “quadruple” aspects become complete. The remaining additional aspects of these three planets have the same strength as for the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus.

These additional, minor aspects are usually not taken into account in the interpretation of the horoscope. They are taken into account mainly only when assessing the strength of the planets - in the Shadbala system (see below in this chapter).

BURNING Planets in close conjunction with the Sun “burn” - they become “burnt”. Burning significantly weakens the planet, and sometimes completely weakens it. A combust planet creates special difficulties for the person whose significator it is.

For example, a burnt ruler of the ascendant harms the health of the owner of the horoscope, and a burnt ruler of the seventh house harms his partner.

METHODS OF DOLOGY OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY For Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, combustion occurs when connected to the Sun within an orb of 8°30". For the Moon, a brighter planet, the combustion orb is 15°. For the inner planets have a smaller orb: for Venus - 4 °, and for Mercury - 2 °. Some Vedic astrologers use wider orbs. Others believe that if a planet forms an even closer conjunction with the Sun - within one degree - then the rays it merges with the solar ones and the negative effects of combustion are completely neutralized. The presence of a planet in a sign or house favorable to it can also soften the effect of combustion.

In general, all planets perform better at some distance from the Sun. This is especially important for the Moon, Mercury and Venus, the planets that have phases. Like the Moon, which is strongest at full moon and weakens as it approaches the Sun, Mercury and Venus are most powerful at their maximum distance from the Sun, and weaken as they approach it. The same principle, although to a lesser extent, applies to all other planets.

Burning is considered harmful on the grounds that every planet, approaching the Sun, is lost in its rays. Therefore, a connection with the Sun has a bad effect on the energy of any planet.

"WAR OF THE PLANETS"

The situation when two planets are in close conjunction with each other - within one degree - is called “in the middle of the planet”. The forces of these planets collide. The winner in the “war of the planets” is the planet with the lower ecliptic longitude. For example, if Mars is at 23°35" Sagittarius, and Venus is at 23°17" Sagittarius, then Venus wins the “war”.

A benefactor planet that loses in the “war of the planets” with a malefic becomes very weak. On the contrary, a benefactor who wins the “war” with a saboteur becomes much stronger. In relation to the Sun and Moon, the “war of the planets” rule does not apply.

SEPARATING PLANETS The Sun, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and the lord of the twelfth house (in the system of houses from the ascendant) are called separating planets. Some Vedic astrologers include Mars among them, whose influence is mainly destructive in nature - that is, they include all pests among them. Separating planets alienate or distance us from those objects and areas of life that are under their influence.

If the separating planets aspect the elements of the horoscope that control the marriage partner - the seventh house, its ruler and the planet - the significator of the partner (Venus for a man, Jupiter for a woman), then the owner of the horoscope is most likely separation or divorce from your spouse is imminent. Maintaining a long-term marital relationship will be difficult.

If the separating planets aspect the tenth house and its ruler, then the owner of the horoscope may lose his job or may not be able to stay in one job for a long time. If the separating planets aspect the second house and its ruler, as well as Mercury, then in childhood the owner of the horoscope can live away from his parents. If the separating planets aspect the fourth house, its ruler, the Moon and Mercury, then the owner of the horoscope is in danger of losing his mind, going crazy. If the separating planets aspect the fifth house, its ruler and Jupiter, then separation from children is possible, but infertility or (especially in the female horoscope) surgery on the reproductive organs is even more likely. In a word, the separating planets tell us the qualities of the house they aspect. They have the same effect in the system of houses from the Moon.

The sun generates independence or “burns out” the area associated with a given house. Saturn brings loss, alienation and detachment. Rahu has a dispersive effect and also instills a craving for the alien and distant. Ketu has a constricting effect and instills a tendency towards denial. The ruler of the twelfth house denotes loss and loneliness - in full accordance with the nature of this house.

RETROGRADE MOTION At times, the planets (except the Sun and Moon) change the direction of their apparent movement across the zodiac to the opposite.

This is due to the fact that the periods of their orbital revolution differ from the period of the Earth’s revolution around the Sun. In Western astrology, retrograde, i.e. Planets moving backward in the zodiac are usually considered sources of problems, delays or obstacles. Mercury retrograde, for example, creates communication problems.

In Vedic astrology, retrograde is not interpreted so clearly. In general, a benefic planet in retrograde motion loses some of its positive qualities and becomes unpredictable. For example, the retrograde ruler of the ascendant is considered to weaken health. But sometimes it is believed that retrograde changes the energy of the planet to the opposite. And some astrologers claim that retrograde planets in exaltation lose their strength, and in fall, on the contrary, they intensify.

Retrograde turns the planet's energy into the inner world.

Thus, when Mercury is retrograde, a person’s thinking becomes more introverted. Such a person may be interested in history or occult research. But when damaged, retrograde Mercury can cause neurosis and speech disorders or simply indecisiveness in communication.

Retrograde planets are indicators of karmic consequences and influences of the past. It is possible that through them, some karmic debts and unfulfilled promises are worked off, and unfinished business in the past is put in order.

Under the influence of retrograde planets, a person cannot go forward in the relevant area: first he must go back or go within himself in order to strengthen or limit the energies of these planets.

PLANETARY YOGAS Planetary yogas are considered a more important factor in Vedic astrology than aspects. Yogas are special configurations of planets, when determining which many factors are taken into account - signs, houses, and aspects. The very word “yoga”

means "combination" or "connection". Yogas can be simple or complex. Complex yogas include many factors, and sometimes it is not easy to calculate and recognize them.

Most yogas are determined on the basis of houses - taking into account the merits and demerits of houses and the lords of houses from the ascendant. Indian astrology manuals include long lists of yogas, and astrologers memorize them. But if any of the yogas is present in the chart, supporting factors are necessary for its implementation. Understanding the principles by which yogis are distinguished is much more important than remembering all possible combinations of planets.

Any interpretation of a horoscope that requires synthesis or correlation of various indications is a kind of construction of yogas. The more different factors the cards point to the same result, the more likely it is to come true.

Our task is to master this principle of “yogic thinking,” that is, learn to discover connections and draw parallels.

Sometimes a very strong chart may not contain a single classical yoga - but other combinations will certainly be found that ensure the overall power of the horoscope. Simple yogas are inferior in power to more complex configurations that link together the energies of several planets.

“SURROUNDED” PLANETS If, with Saturn in Scorpio and Mars in Virgo, the Moon is in Libra, then malefic planets are adjacent to it on both sides.

In this case, the Moon finds itself “surrounded by pests,” which weaken it and cause damage to it. In Sanskrit this configuration is called papakartari yoga. From a formal point of view, it is not an aspect, but it acts just as strongly. as a major aspect. The moon falls under the influence of its evil neighbors and loses its strength. However, the planets “surrounded”

pests, can largely resist their effects due to the aspect from a benefic planet.

If Jupiter and Venus participate in the configuration instead of Saturn and Mars, then the Moon is “surrounded” by benefactors who protect and strengthen it. In Sanskrit this position is called Shubhakartari Yoga.

Such combinations should be taken into account when assessing the strength of the planets. On their basis, other planetary yogas can be formed.

METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY When all the planets are located between Rahu and Ketu, there is a month of “environment” - kalasarpa yoga, a special type of negative “snake of time”. Kalasarpa yoga indicates unpredictable events, unexpected difficulties, strange occurrences and extrasensory abilities. All these properties can manifest themselves in both beneficial and harmful ways. However, kalasarpa yoga itself is not very strong: other factors can neutralize it without much difficulty.

RAJA YOGA Above we have already seen how a single planet, ruling the trigonal and angular houses at the same time, can form Raja Yoga. But raja yoga is also formed in the case when there is a relationship between two planets (regardless of their qualities) and one of these planets rules an angular house, and the other rules a trigonal one. The beneficial power of this yoga decreases if the planets included in it also rule problematic houses or are afflicted in any other way. Raja yoga manifests itself most strongly when the planets that form it are in mutual reception: for example, when the ruler of the ninth house is in the tenth, and the ruler of the tenth is in the ninth house. Rahu can also form Raja Yoga. If it is in an angular house and the planet ruling it is in a trigonal one, then a special type of raja yoga is formed. Some astrologers believe that raja yoga also occurs when Rahu is located in a trigonal house and its lord is in an angular house.

REVERSE RAJA YOGA Yogas are formed not only by positive factors, but also by combinations of negative influences that neutralize each other. The sixth, eighth and twelfth houses are considered problematic. When their rulers are in interrelation or mutual reception, the problems are aggravated. However, there is an exception to this rule - the so-called reverse (v and pr and t a) raja yogas.

If both in the houses from the ascendant and in the houses from the Moon, all three lords of these houses - the sixth, eighth and twelfth - gather in one of the same houses, this portends great luck, since in this way all the lords of problematic houses and all those associated with them are neutralized problems disappear.

Dhana Yogas: YOGIS OF WEALTH Dhana yogas depend primarily on the ruler of the second house - the main indicator of wealth. But you should also take into account the eleventh house (income), the fifth (profits from speculation) and the ninth (luck and unexpected gifts of fate). Sometimes the fourth house also comes into play - an indicator of real estate and vehicles. Dhana yogas are formed according to the same principle as raja yogas, that is, when the lords of these houses are combined: for example, when the lord of the second house is in the eleventh, and the lord of the eleventh is in the second house.

Ddridaya yogas: yogas of POVERTY Daridrya yogas, as a rule, are formed by combining houses of wealth with houses of loss (for example, the second and eleventh houses with the twelfth). Thus, the yoga of poverty is formed if the lord of the second house (income) is in the twelfth house (losses), and the lord of the twelfth is in the second. In addition, daridriya-yos can form malefic planets in the houses of wealth (for example, the lord of the sixth house in the fifth or the lord of the eighth house in the ninth).

yoga ARISTHA-YOGA: OBSTACLES Aristha-yogas are harmful configurations that bring all kinds of obstacles, disasters and problems (primarily diseases). They are formed mainly due to the mutual reception of the ruler of the ascendant (significator of the body) and the rulers of problem houses (sixth, eighth and twelfth). Also, an aristha yogi can be formed without the ruler of the ascendant - due to pairwise connections between the rulers of these negative houses.

Similar problems are created by the Moon in the sixth, eighth or twelfth house. It may portend illness in infancy, but at a day birth this indication is removed if the Lupa arrives. and at night - if the Moon is waning.

METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY OF SANNYAS YOGA: YOGA OF SELF-DENIAL AND SPIRITUALITY The development of spirituality is facilitated by a number of planetary configurations, including combinations of negative factors. For example, simple sannyasa yoga - a configuration of self-denial and spirituality - is formed when four or more planets, including the lord of the tenth house, assemble in one sign.

Another type of sannyasa yoga is the Moon in the sign of Saturn, taking an aspect from Mars, or the Moon in the sign of Mars, aspected by Satur. When the Moon is afflicted, it is easier for a person to renounce his personal life and get rid of vain attachments. This is facilitated by any aspects to the Moon from Mars or Saturn. However, without the support of other indicators of spirituality, these same combinations can only indicate difficult emotional experiences. Spiritual development is facilitated by factors affecting the second, fourth and twelfth houses - the houses of pleasure.

Yogas with the PARTICIPATION OF THE MOON The Moon participates in many planetary yogas. This is a highly receptive, sociable, motherly planet. She does not like to be left alone and act only on her own. The Moon, not connected with other planets, is generally unfavorable, even if its placement is otherwise favorable.

For example, the Moon in Cancer or Taurus may lose its beneficial qualities if it is not adjacent to beneficent planets and does not perceive their influence.

On the good side, the Moon manifests itself when in conjunction with benefic planets, as well as when surrounded by benefic planets located in its neighboring signs. It is even better if Jupiter is located in the corner house from it (this configuration is called Gaja Kesari Yoga). Aspected or surrounded by malefics (especially Saturn and Rahu), the Moon suffers - and along with it our mind and emotions suffer. Approximately the same results are obtained by a similar lesion of the ascendant. This is another case of papakartari yoga - the “surrounding” of evil planets discussed above. But when “surrounded” by benefactor planets, all the advantages of the Moon increase.

MAHA PURUSHA - YOGI Among the most frequent and, perhaps, the most significant yogas are Mahapurusha yogas - planetary configurations, the abundance of which in the chart indicates a great person. Mahapurusha yoga is formed when a planet is in its abode or sign of exaltation and at the same time in an angular house from the ascendant or from the Moon. Here only the five main planets are taken into account - without the Sun and Moon. But the Sun and Moon in such positions also receive a certain advantage. Mahapurusha yoga enhances the qualities of the planet and spreads its nature, character and strength throughout the entire horoscope. Under its influence a person can turn into the embodiment of a pure planetary type. The qualities of the planet forming the Mahapurusha Yoga are often reflected in the physical appearance of the owner of the horoscope.

MARS - RUCHAKA YOGA Mahapurusha yoga formed by Mars is called ruchaka yoga, meaning “radiant” or “shining.” It gives a person the pronounced qualities of Mars - courage, determination and independence, and also gives strength to all his actions and helps to achieve goals. This configuration is often found in the natal charts of people of the Martian type - gender commanders, politicians, lawyers, scientists and executives.

It portends great success in life, however, it can contribute to the revelation of the tamasic qualities of Mars (including the tendency to violence and suppression), and therefore is not always conducive to spiritual development.

MERCURY - BHADRA YOGA Mahapurusha yoga formed by Mercury is called bhadra yoga, which means “auspicious”. It endows a person with pronounced Mercury qualities - eloquence, developed mental abilities, wit, sense of humor, humanity and mental balance. Bhadra Yoga Cha is found in the charts of knowledge workers, teachers, writers and businessmen. It bestows many talents METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY, however, in addition to them, it can stimulate the rajasic qualities of Mercury - restlessness or a tendency to acquisitiveness, as well as the desire to sort the whole world into shelves and stick labels on everything .

JUPITER - HAMSA YOGA Mahapurusha yoga formed by Jupiter is called hamsa yoga - “swan yoga” (the swan is a symbol of spiritual knowledge).

It endows a person with pronounced qualities of Jupiter:

high morality, a philosophical mindset or religiosity, optimism, creativity, good health and strong faith, and also portends prosperity and abundance.

Hamsa yoga is often found in the natal charts of religious people, teachers, free-thinking social leaders and leading businessmen, and sometimes famous artists and showmen. It bestows the ability to rejoice and empathize, and with the support of appropriate factors, it can turn a person towards the path of spirituality.

But if it manifests itself only on a superficial level, then the owner of the horoscope will be interested only in worldly successes.

VENUS - MALAVYA YOGA Mahapurusha yoga formed by Venus is called Malavya Yoga. It endows a person with pronounced qualities of Venus - beauty and charm, grace and artistic talents, and also indicates comfort and prosperity in life and the ability to manage material and transport means. Malavya Yoga is often found in the horoscopes of artists, beautiful women, rich and powerful people, and sometimes also in the charts of politicians. Depending on additional factors, it can manifest itself at both high and low levels. At a high level, Malavya Yoga bestows the ability for selfless devotion and selfless service.

SATURN - SHASH YOGA Mahapurusha yoga formed by Saturn is called shasha yoga. It endows a person with pronounced qualities of Saturn, promising power over people, an authoritative position, control over material resources, hard work and the ability to achieve great achievements. Shasha yoga is often found in the natal of political leaders and big businessmen. Since Saturn is a cruel planet, if the Moon and Jupiter are weak in the horoscope, sasha yoga can make a person selfish, ruthless or prone to destruction (in general, Saturn in angular houses always inspires some fear). With a favorable and pleasant disposition, Shasha Yoga bestows freedom from attachments, spiritual insight and the ability to remain silent.

Mahapurusha yoga is a typical feature of the horoscopes of famous people. In general, they occur quite often: many cards have at least one combination of this type. But they manifest themselves in full force only if their location is favorable. Mahapurusha yoga is considered stronger when the planet forming it is located in the tenth house - the best of the angular houses, or if it is formed in both houses from the ascendant and in houses from the Moon. This yoga is strengthened even if the planet that forms it is the final dispositor of the horoscope or controls many other planets, as well as if it is associated with planets that are friendly or related to it by nature (for example, Mars - with the Sun, Jupiter - with the Moon and etc.). It is desirable that the planet forming yoga, in the system of houses from the ascendant, rules favorable houses.

Granting strength and power in the external world, such connections do not always help in acquiring spiritual knowledge. Under their influence, a person tends to be proud. Strong malefics - Mars or Saturn - in Mahapurusha yoga can give rise to tyrants (Mahapuru sha yoga of Mars is present in Hitler’s chart;

see chapter 1 6.

And weakened planets, while creating problems in the outside world, on the contrary, can do a good deed, teaching us humility. For many spiritually developed people, for example, Jupiter is in Capricorn, the sign of fall.

KUJA DOSH Being in some houses, Mars can interfere with marriage and the establishment of partnerships. According to METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY, this situation is called kuja dosha, or “damage to Mars.” Kuja dosha occurs when Marsa is in the first, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house. The exceptions are: for the first house - Aries, for the fourth - Scorpio, for the seventh - Capricorn or Pisces, for the eighth - Cancer, and for the twelfth - Sagittarius (in these cases, kuja dosha is not formed).

Houses can be counted from both the ascendant and the Moon.

Kuja dosha indicates potential conflicts in personal relationships or problems in marital life. A person with this position of Mars is likely to marry only with a partner who has a similar kuja dosha. The heaviest kuja dosha is Mars in the seventh house (although this placement often brings success in social life). The first and eighth houses are often just as difficult.

Mars in the first house often makes a person aggressive and grumpy. Mars in the seventh house causes conflicts in personal relationships and the need for dominance over a partner. Mars in the eighth house can generate strong sexual desire or indicate the early death of a partner. Mars in the fourth house speaks of either aggressive emotionality or unhappiness in the home. Mars in the twelfth house can indicate a secret passion or a waste of vital energy.

However, one should approach the interpretation of any kuja dosha very carefully, because such positions of Mars are found in many charts. For the indications of the kuja dosha to be realized, it must be supported by negative influences on the seventh house, on its ruler and on the significator of marriage. In addition, the concept of kuja dosha corresponds to ideas about the more passive role of women in society, and therefore in the modern world it is becoming less relevant. These days many women work equally with men and need a strong Mars - and in most of these positions Mars is strengthened. Therefore, kuja dosha in a female horoscope can only indicate independence and freedom of relationships in marriage.

If the houses and planets responsible for personal relationships are occupied by other malefics (Sun, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu), then the person may experience problems in this area even without kuja dosha. And these problems can turn out to be much more severe - as, for example, with the Sun in the seventh house, which usually indicates celibacy or unhappiness in marriage.

SHADBALA: PLANET STRENGTH COEFFICIENTS Shadbala is a complex scoring system that allows you to clearly determine the strengths and weaknesses of the planets in the horoscope. This is probably the most sophisticated and detailed of the astrological systems of its kind - and, it seems, the most reliable. It is possible to give an accurate interpretation of a horoscope without shadbala, but it provides very valuable supporting information. Since the calculations here are complex, require considerable skill and take a lot of time, it is best to use a special computer program. For the same reason, we will describe this system only in general terms, without going into all the subtleties.

If a planet is strong in the shadbala, it is also strong in the horoscope, but the degree of its auspiciousness can only be judged by its nature. If a planet in the shadbala is weak, it will not bring much benefit to the owner of the horoscope and, moreover, can cause troubles and cause diseases. Along with shadbala, it is necessary to study the state of signs, houses, aspects and yogas. Shadbala only helps in interpreting the horoscope, but does not replace a thorough analysis of the chart. With the help of shadbala, one can find out whether a particular planet has enough strength to fulfill its function in the horoscope. But only the horoscope itself can tell what this function is and whether it tends to manifest itself in the usual way or, on the contrary, in an unusual way. Even if the planet is strong in the shadbala. it may not bring anything good to the card owner if, for example, it is under the influence of an aspect from a negative planet or participates in unfavorable yoga. Moreover, a planet that is too strong in the shadbala can make a person somewhat “one-sided.” For example, I have seen cards where the coefficient of the Sun in the shadbala was very high, but the owner of the horoscope turned out to be a complete egoist!

METHODOLOGY OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY FACTORS OF SHADBALA Shadbala considers six factors of force:

1. Power of position - Sthana-bala 2. Power of direction - Dig-bala 3. Temporary power - Kala-bala 4. Power of movement - Places-bala 5. Natural power - Naisargika-bala 6. Aspect power - Drik-bala 1. Power of Position There are five factors to consider:

1. Strength of exaltation (Uchcha-bala): how close the planet is to its point of exaltation.

2. Strength in harmonics (Saptavargaja-bala): the strength of the position of the planet in the seven harmonic charts.

3. The power of odd and even signs (Ojayugmarasyamsa bala).

4. Strength of the corner house (Kendra Bala): the strength of the position of the planet in the houses.

5. Strength in the dean's office (Drekkana-bala): the strength of the position of the plane you are in the dean's office.

2. Directional force This is one of the main factors that strengthens or weakens the planet. It helps to understand the system by which the strength of planets in houses is determined. The table shows the strong positions of the planets. The same planets become weak in the opposite house - the opposite direction.

Strength of direction First house Mercury, Jupiter East Tenth house Sun, Mars South Moon, Venus North Fourth house Saturn West Seventh house 3. Temporal force The combination of nine factors depending on the hour, day, month and year of birth is considered here. The strength of planets varies depending on different time periods.

1. Day and night power of Nathonnatha bala 2. Monthly power of Paksha bala Power of the four hours 3. Tribanga bala 4. Power of the year lord Abdadhipati bala 5. Power of the month lord Masadhipati bala 6. Power of the day lord Varadhipati bala 7. The power of the ruler of the hour Hora-bala 8. The power of declination Ayana-bala 9. The power of the “war of the planets” Yuddha-bala 4. The power of movement This is the most complex factor of shadbala. Here, the peculiarities of the movement of planets in orbits around the Sun and, in particular, periods of retrograde are taken into account.

5. Natural Strength The natural strength of planets is the same in all charts. The Sun is the most powerful planet, followed (in descending order of strength) by the Moon, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars and Saturn. This sequence is based on the comparative brightness of the planets observed from Earth.

6. Aspect Strength This factor is calculated from aspect arcs based on the extended aspect determination system. It does not replace the need to directly analyze aspects in a horoscope.

I mean the old Indian practice of dividing the day t h e r e x h a r l e i n t e r v a ls (Approx. rad.) HARMONIC CHARTS FINE TUNING THE BIRTH CARD Vedic astrologers always build at least two charts:

the basic natal chart (rashi chakra) and the ninth harmonic chart (navamsha). Six cards are often considered, and sometimes more, up to sixteen. Harmonic maps clarify and specify the readings of the Rashi chakra. In general, in harmonics according to the Vedic system, only the position of the planets in signs is taken into account, but some computer programs calculate them with an accuracy of degrees. Since calculating harmonic maps is labor-intensive and troublesome, it is best to build them using a computer. Here we present only the general rules by which such calculations are made.

Hora: dividing the signs in half Hora is the simplest harmonic. The first half of each odd sign (Aries, Gemini, etc.) is ruled by the Sun, and the second half is ruled by the Moon. The first half of each even-numbered sign (Taurus, Cancer, etc.) is ruled by the Moon, and the second half is ruled by the Sun.

If Mars, for example, is located at 20° 15" Virgo - in the second half of an even sign - then it is located in the hora of the Sun. The hora chart indicates only the solar and lunar status of the planets and, unlike other harmonics, does not transfer planets to other signs.

Drekkana, or decanate: division of signs into 3 parts Decanate 2 ^, or, in Sanskrit, drekkana, is an important harmonic.

The first third of each sign (00°00 "- 10°00") is located in the sub-deanery - the adoption in "apaliy astrology of the name "/, parts of the zodiac sign, i.e. 10" (Approx. pet).) 8 Danilo Friuli by his own this sign. The middle third (10°00"-20"00") is controlled by the next sign of the same element. The last third (20°00"-ZO"OO") is controlled by the last character of that element.

For example, the first third of Sagittarius belongs to the Sagittarius drekkana, the second third to the Aries drekkana, and the last third to the Leo drekkana. If Saturn is located at 15°20" Sagittarius in the natal chart, then it falls in the drekkana of Aries.

Chaturtamsha: division of signs into 4 parts Each sign is divided into four equal parts. The first quarter (00°00"-07°30") corresponds to the same sign. The second quarter (0 7° 3 0 " - 15°00") corresponds to the next sign of the same quality (cardinal, fixed or mutable). The third quarter (15°00"-22°30") corresponds to a sign of the same quality following the sign of the second quarter. The last quarter (2 2 ° 3 0 " - 30 ° 00") corresponds to the last mark of the same quality.

For example, the first quarter of Aries is Aries, the second quarter is Cancer, the third quarter is Libra, and the last quarter is Capricorn.

If Venus is at 20° 15" of Aries, it falls in the third quarter of the Chaturthamsha, and therefore in the sign of Libra - the third cardinal sign counting from Aries.

Saptamsha: division of signs into 7 parts Each sign is divided into seven equal parts with a length of 04°17"09". The first of the seven parts of each odd sign is ruled by that sign itself, and the rest are ruled by the next six signs in the order of their location in the zodiac. In even signs, the first of the seven parts corresponds to the seventh sign, counting the given one, and the signs following this seventh sign govern the remaining six parts.

The first of the seven parts of Aries (odd sign) corresponds to Aries, the second to Taurus, the third to Gemini, and so on until Libra. The first of the seven parts of Taurus (an even sign) corresponds to Scorpio - the seventh sign, counting from Taurus. The second of the seven parts of Taurus corresponds to Sagittarius, the third to Capricorn, and so on until Taurus. Thus, in saptamsha, the order of control of the parts of a sign corresponds to the order of the signs METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY in the zodiac. The table shows the boundaries of parts of signs in Saptamsha:

1.00*00"00"-04"17"09" 2. 04*17*09"-08"34"17" 3. 08*34"17"- 12°51 "26" 4. 12"51"26 " - 17*08"34" 5. 17"08"34"-21 "25"43" 6. 21*25"43"-25*42"52" 7. 25"42"52" - ZO"OO "OO" If the Moon is located at 25°10" Taurus, then it falls in the sixth of the seven parts, and therefore is in the saptamsa under the control of Aries (sixth sign, counting from Scorpio).

Navamsa: division of signs into 9 parts Each sign is divided into nine equal parts with an extension of 03°20". The first of the nine parts of each sign is ruled by the cardinal sign of the same element. The remaining parts are ruled by the signs following it in the usual order of the zodiac cardinal sign.

The first of the nine parts of Gemini (mutable Air sign) corresponds to Libra (cardinal Air sign), the second part - Scorpio, the third - Sagittarius, and so on - right up to Gemini itself, which rules the last, ninth part.

Since Scorpio is a fixed Water sign, the first of its nine parts is ruled by the cardinal sign of Water - Cancer, and the seventh corresponds to Capricorn. Thus, Jupiter in Navamsa is in the sign of Capricorn.

Dashamsha: division of signs into 10 parts Each sign is divided into ten equal parts of 3°. The first of the ten parts of each odd sign is ruled by that sign itself.

The first of the ten parts of each even sign is ruled by the ninth sign, counting from itself. The remaining rulers of the parts are arranged in the order of the zodiac signs.

The first dashamsha (tenth) of Aries is Aries;

The first dasham sha of Taurus is Capricorn. The first Dashamsa of Gemini is Gemini;

The first dashamsha is Cancer - Pisces. The first dashamsa of Leo is Leo;

The first dashamsa of Virgo is Taurus. The first dashamsa of Libra is Libra;

The first dashamsha of Scorpio is Cancer. The first Dashamsa of Sagittarius is Sagittarius;

The first dashamsa of Capricorn is Virgo. The first dashamsha of Aquarius is Aquarius;

The first dashamsa of Pisces is Scorpio.

DWA D A SHA M SHA: DIVISION OF SIGNS INTO 12 PARTS Each sign is divided into twelve equal parts of 02°30".

The first of the twelve parts of each sign corresponds to that sign itself, and the rest to the signs that follow it in the usual order of the zodiac.

Shodashamsha: division of signs into 16 parts Each sign is divided into sixteen equal parts with a length of 0G52"30". The first of the sixteen parts of each cardinal sign corresponds to Aries. The first of the sixteen parts of each fixed sign corresponds to Leo. The first of the sixteen parts of each mutable sign corresponds to Sagittarius. The remaining rulers of the parts are arranged in the order of the zodiac signs.

METHODS OF DOLOGY OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY Vimshamsha: division of signs into 20 parts Each sign is divided into twenty equal parts of length 0 1 3 0 ". The first of the twenty parts of each cardinal sign corresponds to Aries. The first of the twenty parts of each fixed sign corresponds to Sagittarius. The first of the twenty parts of each mutable sign corresponds to Leo. The remaining rulers of the parts are arranged in the order of the signs of the zodiac.

Siddhamsha: division of signs into 24 parts Each sign is divided into twenty-four equal parts with a length of 0 G 1 5 ". In odd signs, the countdown begins from Leo, and in even signs, from Cancer. The ruling signs of the remaining parts follow in the usual order.

Bhamsha: division of signs into 27 parts Each sign is divided into twenty-seven equal parts with a length of 0 G 0 6 "4 0". In fire signs, the countdown begins from Aries, in earth signs - from Cancer, in air signs - from Libra, in water signs - from Capricorn. The ruling signs of the remaining parts follow in the usual order.

Trimshamsha: division of signs into 30 parts This harmonic is constructed in an unusual way. The signs Cancer and Leo are not involved in trimshamsha.

All odd signs begin with Aries, and all even signs begin with Libra. The lord signs of the remaining parts follow in the usual order.

Akshavedamsha: division of signs into 44 parts Each sign is divided into forty-four equal parts of 40 in length. All cardinal signs begin with Aries, all fixed signs begin with Leo, all mutable signs begin with Sagittarius. t e l and the remaining parts follow in the usual order.

Shastyamsa: division of signs into 60 parts Each sign is divided into sixty equal parts of 30 in length. Each sign begins with itself, and the signs - lords of the remaining parts follow in the usual order.

These sixteen harmonic cards (including the natal chart - rashi chakra) are collectively called shodashavarga - “sixteen harmonics”. Shadvarga - "six harmonics" - consists of the natal chart and the cards of the second, third, ninth, twelfth and thirtieth harmonics. With the addition of the seventh harmonic map, saptavarga - "seven harmonics" - is formed. With the addition of the cards of the tenth, sixteenth and sixtieth harmonics to the sap tavarga, dashavarga is formed - “ten harmonics”.

The main and most common are the cards of the first, second, third, fourth, seventh, tenth, twelfth and thirtieth harmonics (Rashi, Hora, Drekkana, Chaturtamsha, Saptamsha, Dashamsha, Dvadashamsha and Trimshamsha). Each harmonic is under the protection of a special deity, which is taken into account in the esoteric interpretation of the card.

USING HARMONIC MAPS Harmonic maps are used to perform “fine tuning”

meanings of the natal chart (rashi chakra). Harmonics are used to calculate the strength of planets in a horoscope. Planets are strengthened by being located in the sign of their exaltation, in their abode and in the signs of friendly planets. In the signs of planets hostile to them and in the sign of fall, they lose power.

Every time it is necessary to study the location of planets in signs, not only in the natal chart, but also in harmonic charts. In harmonics, the same rules of friendship and enmity between planets apply as in the base chart. But in addition, each harmonic has its own special METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY and its own scope of application: its readings relate primarily to the corresponding area of life.

The most subtle differentiating factor in harmonic charts is the position of the ascendant. But if the exact time of birth is unknown, then it makes no sense to take into account the ascendant in small subdivisions of signs: an error in the time of birth of five minutes will change the sign of the ascendant in all harmonics above the twelfth (dvadashamsha). For this reason, Vedic astrologers, working with high harmonics, often place the circle of houses not from the ascendant, but from the Moon and atma-karaka.

Distant planets move slowly, which makes it possible to calculate their positions in high harmonics with great accuracy. Usually the positions of Jupiter and Saturn in harmonics are more informative than their positions in the signs of the base chart. They must be taken into account when assessing the general well-being of the owner of the horoscope.

Rashi Chakra Rashi Chakra is the basic natal chart. It is its indications that should serve as the basis for the interpretation of all harmonic maps. The influence of harmonics can strengthen or weaken one or another factor in the natal chart, but cannot overcome or eliminate it. Harmonic charts serve only to “fine-tune” the values of the natal chart, but none of them can radically change its readings. The natal chart determines the areas of application of harmonics, and when interpreting any harmonic it should in no case be overlooked. Harmonic charts can be likened to concentric circles, and the natal chart to the outer ring that limits and encloses them.

Hora The Hora chart allows you to find out what type a particular planet belongs to - solar or lunar. In this way, a distinction is made between yang and yin, active and passive, masculine and feminine, individual and social, intellectual and emotional energies.

The male planets - the Sun, Mars and Jupiter - have great strength in the choir of the Sun. Planets with a feminine character - the Moon, Venus and Saturn - are stronger in the choir of the Moon. Dual ASTROLOGY OF SEERS Mercury theoretically feels the same in both choirs, but in practice everything depends on which planets it is under the influence of in a given horoscope.

Planets in the choir of the Sun indicate reliance on internal forces and give a person initiative. Planets in the choir of the Moon give mainly support to society, family and the past. If there are too few planets in the solar choir, then it will be very difficult for the owner of the horoscope to achieve public recognition. If too few planets are in the lunar Hora, this indicates a lack of mutual understanding with other people and that the person is receiving undeserved recognition.

The Hora chart is often likened to the second house of the horoscope and is considered associated with wealth. If the ruler of the second house on the tal chart is in a favorable choir, this is beneficial for all areas of life associated with the second house. Hora literally means "hour". Since each sign rules two hours of the day (it is exactly two hours on average that the ascendant needs to move from sign to sign), then each choir - half a sign - rules over one hour.

from Drekkana The map of the third harmonic corresponds to the third house of the horoscope. She is connected to siblings, friends and allies.

It characterizes our tendency to work in teams and to form alliances to achieve goals. In addition, it shows the extent to which we have such qualities as energy, curiosity, courage and valor.

During drekkana, you need to examine especially carefully the position of the ruler of the third house of the natal chart, as well as Mars, a natural indicator of the affairs of the third house. The position of the ascendant lord of drekkana in the natal chart should also be studied.

This will give important information about the brothers and sisters of the owner of the horoscope.

In addition, drekkana helps to clarify the readings of the Sun, Moon and Ascendant. If, for example, the ascendant is in Aquarius, but in the decanate of Gemini, then the humanistic influence of Aquarius will be colored by the sociability and intellectual power of Gemini. If any sign of the natal chart contains many planets, then their manifestations can be differentiated on the basis of positions in the decanates. In horary astrology and for the general interpretation of the horoscope, special symbols of deaneries are used.

Chaturthamsha The fourth harmonic is like the fourth house. Traditionally, it is believed to answer questions about a person's general well-being, emotions, home life and happiness. If benefic planets (Jupiter and Venus) or lords of benefic houses are strong in the chaturthamsa, it contributes to the overall well-being of the horoscope owner.

Also in this chart you should study the positions of the Moon, Mercury and the ruler of the fourth house. They will provide information about the degree of emotional satisfaction and peace of mind of a person. In addition, Chaturthamsha is used to resolve issues related to the purchase of houses and vehicles.

Saptamsha The seventh harmonic is associated with children and grandchildren. But, as in the case of the fifth house of the natal chart, this meaning should not be taken strictly in a literal sense. It’s just that for most people creativity is limited to procreation, but in reality saptamsha refers to the most diverse creative manifestations of a person. Using this card, you can evaluate the creative abilities of the owner of the horoscope and find out to what extent they will be realized and recognized.

The position of the lord of the fifth house of the natal chart in saptamsha gives important information about the children of the owner of the horoscope. It is also necessary to take into account the position of the lord of the saptamsha (i.e. the lord of the ascendant of the saptamsha) in the natal chart.

Navamsha Navamsha is the main harmonic. Like a natal chart, it characterizes all areas of human life. If, for example, we want to clarify the issue of children, then it is necessary to examine the fifth house not only in the natal chart, but also in the navamsha. And if we are interested in a career, then we should study the tenth house in both the natal chart and the navamsha.

Navamsa reveals the relationships between the natal chart and the kshatras. Each sign in a navamsa (03°20") corresponds to one quarter of the length of the nakshatra. 1 2 x 9 navamshas = 108;

27 x quarter nakshatras also equals 108 (a sacred number in Hinduism). Perhaps this is the reason why the navamsa chart is given such importance.

Traditionally, navamsha is associated with marriage and the marriage partner. It characterizes the personal relationships in the life of the owner of the horoscope and shows what character traits his partner must have in order to become a suitable complement for him.

But first of all, Navamsha determines a person’s ability to share internal and spiritual values with a partner. By comparing the navamshas of spouses, one can get an idea of their spiritual or dharmic compatibility.

Navamsha is like the ninth house: it describes our dharma and the spiritual or religious motives that motivate us. It reflects the nature and aspirations of our soul, while the tal card reflects the nature of our ego and the essence of the current incarnation alone. By identifying the forces that guide us at a deep level, navamsha serves as a reliable indicator of future incarnations and the evolution of our soul. Often, the vamsha contains more accurate information than the natal chart about who a person really is and what his soul strives for.

A strong navamsha with a weak natal chart can indicate limited potential, but at the same time the ability to express it fully. A weak navamsha with a strong natal chart indicates rich potential, but, on the other hand, problems with its implementation. When analyzing the navamsa, special attention should be paid to the positions of Jupiter and the lord of the ninth house, as well as which planet is the atma-karaka (significator of “I”) of the navamsa chart. All the planetary significators of Jaimini can be examined here;

Moreover, it is in navamsha that they manifest themselves most clearly.

If any planet is strong both in the natal chart and in the vamsa, it will show itself in a very good way. A planet located in the natal chart in the sign of exaltation or monastery, but in the navamsa finds itself in the sign of debilitation, will be somewhat weakened, but on the whole will remain strong. If a planet is in the same sign in both the natal chart and the navamsa, it is considered strong. Such a planet is called vargottama (literally - “in the better division”), Dashamsa The tenth harmonic has much in common with the tenth house. It characterizes the impact of an individual on the world as a whole and the karmic influence that he has on life. Dashamsha plays an important role in establishing the professional calling and in assessing the career of the horoscope owner. Its main meanings are power, social status and achievements. Dashamsa should be studied in conjunction with the tenth house of the natal chart and its ruler, as well as the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and other career factors. If the lord of the tenth house of the natal chart is strong in Dashamsa, it means that the owner of the horoscope will do great things or achieve his goals in life.

Dvadashamsha This is the card of fate and karma accumulated in the past. Traditionally, it is associated with the parents of the owner of the horoscope, but in reality, all circumstances of the past, including hereditary factors and the influence of past incarnations, fall within the scope of its meaning. Dvadashamsa can be used as an indicator of a previous life or even as a natal chart of a previous incarnation. It shows what the soul has brought with it in its current incarnation. Often, it can be used to establish the karmic foundations that predetermined the character and fate of a person in this life.

Thus, the natal chart can be used to study the present incarnation, the ninth harmonic chart to predict the next incarnation, and the twelfth harmonic chart to ascertain the circumstances of a previous life. In this way one can get an idea of the evolution of the soul. To get answers to questions about the father of the owner of the horoscope, you should study the ninth house in Dvadashamsha, and to get answers to questions about the mother, you should study the fourth house. These readings must be compared with the data of the ninth and fourth houses of the natal chart.

Shodashamsha Sixteen is four times four. Therefore, the sixteenth harmonic chart corresponds to the themes of the fourth house. It is an indicator of happiness, home life, property and vehicle acquisition. It is used in much the same way as the fourth harmonic map. If the lord of the fourth house in Shoda Shamsha is strong, then the entire area of the fourth house becomes stronger. This card also plays an important role psychologically: it is associated with mental balance and emotional satisfaction.

Vimshamsha According to tradition, this harmonic is considered a card of upasana - religion of meditation. It characterizes the religious development of the soul and a person’s ability to engage in the yoga of spiritual worship (bhakti-yoge).

From it you can read the religious aspirations that the soul of the owner of the horoscope nurtured in past incarnations. Vimshamsha shows the impact of shakti - the energy of the Goddess - on our lives and determines our ability to submit to the divine will. With the help of this harmonic we can find out which form of the Deity we are most inclined to worship. In addition, vimshamshd characterizes creativity and artistic talents.

Twenty is five times four. Therefore, the twentieth harmonic is similar in meaning to the fifth house and in it all factors related to the fifth house, its ruler and Jupiter should be studied.

Vimshamsha is associated with joy, love and creativity of the soul.

Siddhamsha According to tradition, this harmonic is considered a map of thinking, meditation and mental abilities (in particular, the map of siddhi - supernatural psychic abilities). In the highest sense, it is a map of spiritual knowledge and characterizes the spiritual development of the soul. Siddhamsha determines a person’s ability to do the yoga of knowledge (jnana-yoge). Strong planets here stimulate the development of psychic and spiritual abilities, sharpen perceptions, bestow mastery and deepen self-awareness.

This harmonic characterizes the accumulation of knowledge and education in the broadest sense of the word. Whether this knowledge will be spiritual or material depends on the readings of the natal chart.

METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY In Siddhamsa, it is important to study the positions of the lord of the ninth house, Mercury and Jupiter, as well as the atma-karakas. The twentieth and twenty-fourth harmonics help to penetrate many secrets of human spiritual development.

Bhamsha In this chart, the strength and weakness of the planets are determined based on their belonging to a particular nakshatra. Bhamsha is a finer tuning of the navamsha (where the sign divisions correspond to the quarters of the nakshatras). The most important thing here is to pay attention to the strength or weakness of the Moon. It is also useful to study the significator planets in bhamsha.

Trimshamsha This harmonic is the traditional card of misfortune, enmity and illness. It is considered very important, because by studying it, we will find out what exactly we should be afraid of in life and what it is advisable to avoid.

In the Trimshamsha chart, one should evaluate the strength of the lords of the third, sixth, eighth and eleventh houses. In addition, you need to study here the position of the planets that are located in the sixth, eighth and twelfth houses in the natal chart. If they are poorly placed in trimshamsa, then the likelihood that they will become a source of trouble increases.

Khavedamsa From this chart one can explore the specific beneficial and unfavorable influences of the planets, which are sometimes called good and bad habits - primarily emotional and mental tendencies. Forty is four times ten, and therefore the fortieth harmonic is associated with the affairs of the fourth house.

Akshavedamsha This harmonic allows you to clarify all the general indications of the natal chart, although it is often believed that it is mainly associated with the moral and ethical qualities of the owner of the horoscope. Forty-five is nine to drink, and therefore Akshavedamsha correlates with the indications of the fifth and ninth houses in the area of good and bad karma. It can be used to determine which of the three supreme deities of Hinduism a person most closely corresponds to - Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver or Shiva the destroyer.

Shastyamsa This is the most subtle of all harmonic cards. It is often used to study the horoscopes of twins. It allows you to make the most precise adjustments and differentiate the influences of the planets as much as possible. When analyzing Shastyamsha, a special system of patron deities is used.

JUPITER Dressed in yellow, with a yellow body, with four arms, the teacher Pogon, peaceful in disposition, seated on an elephant, carrying in his hands a rosary, a water vessel and a staff, with a precious sapphire in the crown of his head, bestowing blessings with the gesture of his hand - yes The Divine Lord Jupiter sends down to us his mercy forever and ever.

PLANETY PERIODS:

DEVELOPMENT OF PLANETARY ENERGIES DURING TIME In Vedic astrology, to assess the influence that planets have on a person at various stages of his life path, a simple and at the same time detailed system of planetary systems is used periods (dashas). It can be used both instead of more cumbersome progressions and transits, and in addition to them, to clarify the data obtained. Planetary periods are perhaps the most visual way to imagine the unfolding of planetary energies in time and how they manifest themselves at different stages of human life. It makes sense to construct a Vedic horoscope at least for the sake of being able to apply this system - a system without the use of which the interpretation of the Vedic chart, in turn, remains incomplete. It is useful for every person to know what period he is in and to consider the course of his life in the light of changing planetary periods.

Vedic astrologers accompany the analysis of each horoscope by calculating planetary periods. To do this, you do not need to build any additional map, or even take into account transits: all the necessary information is contained in the tally map itself. The method of planetary periods is very convenient for studying human life and for making long-term plans. The dasha table reflects important changes in the life and character of the owner of the horoscope. Most people go through these changes from time to time. Sometimes a person’s character changes beyond recognition, and this happens quite effectively. Planetary periods will help to understand such events. A new period may differ from the previous one so sharply that with the transition to it the very foundations of a person’s fate, health or personality are transformed.

METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY There are several different systems for determining planetary periods. The most common of them is Vimshottari dasha (120-year cycle), the rules for its use we lay out in this chapter. Important dasha sequences are also Yogini-dasha and Jaimini-chara-data, but in total there are at least a dozen different systems. Most Vedic astrologers use several dasha sequences, but Vimshottari remains the most important. In the Vimshottari dasha system, each of the nine planets is assigned a period of 6 to 20 years. The order of the planets here is the same as in the system of governing the lunar constellations (nakshatras), since the system of planetary periods is based on the lunar zodiac.

No logical justification for these correspondences is given. It is striking that the period of Rahu is the “shadow” pla Vimshottari dasha Moon - 10 years Mars - 7 years Sun - 6 years Saturn - 19 years Jupiter - 16 years Rahu - 18 years Venus - 20 years Ketu - 7 years Mercury - 17 years are not noticeably longer than the periods of such important planets as the Sun and Moon. However, despite the fact that the meaning of this system is not clear to us, it works quite effectively.

HOW TO CALCULATE PLANETARY PERIODS The easiest way to calculate planetary periods is to use a special computer program. But there is also a fairly easy method that allows you to calculate them manually. First of all, you need to determine the major planetary period (mahadasha), and then calculate the minor period (bhukti-dasa) within it. If desired, you can divide the short period into even shorter segments.

Using the table given in Chapter 6, determine which nakshatra the Moon was in at the time of birth. If, for example.

The Moon in the natal chart is located at 12°26" Virgo, then its nakshara is Hasta. Then use the table to determine which planet rules this nakshatra. In our example, the ruling planet is the Moon.

Consequently, the moment of birth occurs during the major planetary period (mahadasha) of the Moon.

Now determine how many more degrees and minutes of arc the Moon has left to travel to reach the end of the nakshatra. The length of each nakshatra is 13"26", that is, 800". In our example, Hasta begins at 10°00" Virgo. Consequently, the Moon has already passed 02°26" within this nakshatra, and it has 10°54" (654") left to travel. Divide this remainder by 800" - and you will find out what part of the period the Moon has not yet passed (in our example - 0.8175).

Then refer to the Vimshottari Dasha table (see above) and find in it the duration of the period associated with the planet - the ruler of the nakshatra. As already mentioned, Hasta nakshatra is ruled by the Moon;

its period is 10 years. Multiply the length of the planetary period by the portion of the period just calculated that the Moon has not yet passed (10 years x 0.8175 = 8.175 years).

Multiply the fractional part of the resulting product by twelve to get the number of months (0.1 7 5 x 12 = 2.1 months). Finally, multiply the fractional part of this product by 30 to get the number of days (0.1 x 30 = 3 days). By adding up the years, months and days, you will find out what part of the planetary period a person still has to live after the moment of birth (in this case - 8 years of the month and 3 days). If the owner of the horoscope was born, for example, in October 1952, then the calculated part of the period should be added to this date. This is how we learn that the Moon period began at the moment of birth and ended on December 13, 1960.

Each subsequent major planetary period will begin on the same date on which the previous period ends. In our example, the seven-year period of Mars will begin on December 13, 1960. Then, on December 13, 1967, the period of Mars will end and the period of Rahu will begin. And so on.

Some Vedic astrologers use a 360-day year to work with the dasha system. As a result, each subsequent planetary period begins a little earlier, and by the middle of a person’s life they can lag behind the dashas of a 365-day year by several months.

However, in order for them to work effectively, it is necessary to know the exact time of birth. Moreover, the exact moments of dashas change depend on the magnitude of the ayanamsha that was used to construct the natal chart. A difference of 1 degree in the magnitude of ayanamsha leads to a shift in planetary periods by approximately 1 year. For this reason, dasha analysis is one of the best means of testing the suitability of a particular ayanamsha meaning.

USING DASHAS A planet ruling a major period will manifest itself through the affairs of the house it rules and through the planets and houses it aspects. In order to use planetary periods wisely, it is necessary to have a firm grasp of the principles of ruling houses and the rules for determining the temporary status of planets. Without this, an accurate interpretation of the planetary periods is impossible. It is believed that the dasha ruler, as it were, “aspects” all the houses and planets of the horoscope in a given period. However, those houses and planets that he actually aspects in the natal chart have a twice as strong effect.

The relationship between the rulers of the large and small periods plays an extremely important role. Any connection exists. The duration of the minor period of each planet relates to the duration of the major period in the same way. as the duration of a large period of this planet - to the entire duration of Vimshottari dasha, which is 120 years. The counting of minor periods begins with the planet that rules the given major period, and continues in the same order as the sequence of major periods.

Using the same principle, you can calculate even shorter time periods of ki - antar-dasha - within a small period. (Approx. Pers.) METHODS OF VEDIC ASTROLOGY between them in the natal chart will intensify at this time.

It is believed that the ruler of the small period, as it were, “aspects” the ruler of Mahadasha, modifying his influence according to his nature.

Even if these two rulers are not connected by a real aspect in the natal chart, their influences will still be mixed. If, for example, there is no aspect between Jupiter and Venus in the natal chart, then during the Jupiter-Venus periods the joint influence of these two planets will still appear, although not as strong as if they were connected by a real aspect.

In addition to aspects, the relationship between houses should be taken into account. Planets located in unfavorable houses from each other - the sixth, eighth or twelfth - are not inclined to harmonious cooperation. On the contrary, planets placed in favorable houses from each other - trigonal or angular - will have a positive effect even if there is no aspect between them.

Also pay attention to friendship and enmity. If the major and minor periods are ruled by planets connected by friendship, this is a good indicator. Planets that are hostile to each other will give rise to some problems, even if both of them have a favorable effect on the natal chart as a whole. All these various factors must be carefully weighed and synthesized into a coherent picture. Only in this way can the nature of planetary periods be accurately described.

A special method for interpreting dashas is also known. It consists of taking the planet ruling the major period as the ascendant and interpreting the houses of the natal chart accordingly. Of course, this interpretation will only make sense during the period being studied. If, for example, the owner of the horoscope is going through the Jupiter period and at the same time Jupiter in his natal chart is in the ninth house and Venus in the third, then we can hope that during the dasha of Jupiter (most likely during the minor period of Venus) this person will will meet a life partner, since Venus is located in the seventh house from Jupiter.

The general rule is that the most successful periods occur when several beneficial lords combine, that is, when the lords of the major and minor periods, as well as sub-periods, are favorable in nature. In addition, when all the rulers of the periods rule over the same area of life, one can count on success in that area. Thus, when the lords of the ninth, eleventh, second or fifth houses are combined, a favorable period begins for business and making profits.

On the other hand, when the lords of the sixth, eighth, twelfth, third or eleventh houses unite, the owner of the horoscope is threatened with illness and various kinds of obstacles.

The beginning of a long period of a benefic planet is considered especially favorable. This time is great for making plans and setting goals for the entire upcoming planetary period. However, we should not forget that the influence of a successful long period does not begin to manifest itself immediately. At first, the planet only sows the seeds of happy events, then the shoots rise, but the fruits appear only after some time has passed.

The beginning of a small period - bhuti - is also well suited for activities in the sphere of its ruling planet, if it is in harmony with the ruler of a large period - mahadasha.

It is at the initial moments of planetary periods that it is recommended to resort to healing remedies (gems, mantras, rituals) that can mitigate the negative effects of the upcoming dasha. If the dasha lord is favorable but weak, its influence can be strengthened with the help of an appropriate gemstone. If the dasha is ruled by a malefic planet, it can be propitiated by mantra, ritual or worship. For example, if within the framework of a large period of beneficial Jupiter a small period of negative Saturn begins, you can either soften the harmful force of Saturn or strengthen Jupiter.

The most important place in the dasha system is occupied by the ruler of the major period, and in second place is the ruler of the minor period.

If, for example, the ruler of a large period is the ruler of the second house (house of livelihood) in the natal chart, the ruler of a small period is the ruler of the eleventh house (house of profit), and the ruler of the sub-period is the ruler of the ninth house (house of luck), then more likely All this indicates material profit. But if the ruler of a major period rules the ninth house (house of religion), the ruler of a small period rules the fifth house (house of creative mind), and the ruler of a sub-period rules the second house (house of intellect), then this time will be good for you. concerns about spiritual, religious or legal principles. Of course, the natural status of the planets must also be taken into account. But the period of such a malefic as Saturn is most likely to be favorable if this planet is in favorable houses for it - in the sixth or eleventh.

TRANSITS (GOCHARA) When analyzing planetary periods, one should also take into account the transits (real current positions) of the planets. Transits of the strongest planets in the chart and the ruler of the ascendant are always very important. Particular attention should be paid to the transits of the planets that govern the major and minor periods - mahadashas and bhukti-dasas.

The final assessment of the influence of periods is determined by transits by approximately 1/3. The rest depends on the relationship between the planets - rulers of periods in the natal chart. Strong transits are especially important in cases where they occur at the junction of two planetary periods.

Astrology is a primordial science, an original system of knowledge created by people at the dawn of time. Astrology formed the basis of the most ancient cosmological teachings, with the help of which our ancestors comprehended the structure and laws of motion of the universe. Astrology was the science of fate, which served to interpret earthly events whose origins were located in heaven. And at the same time, astrology was not only the oldest and most important of the sciences about the external world, but also the most important of the spiritual sciences, addressed to the inner world.

Astrology studies the cosmic origins of forces and influences that manifest themselves in all areas of human activity without exception. In this regard, the astrological worldview was ahead of the achievements of all other sciences. By teaching us the language of cosmic energies, astrology helps us understand all areas of life. For example, ancient medical systems - such as Indian Ayurveda or ancient Greek medicine - paid great attention to astrological factors. The basis of yogic practice is the balancing of solar and lunar forces in the human body.

Astrology was the cornerstone of all spiritual cultures of antiquity - Egypt and Babylon, India, China and Mesoamerica. The social structure of these states was based on it, as evidenced, among other things, by the royal dynasties that traced their pedigree to the Sun and the Moon. Astrology was the original physical, psychological and medical discipline. Therefore, based on what astrological system is accepted in a given culture, one can judge the degree of development of this culture and its relations with the outside world.

Without astrology, that is, without an understanding of the role the movement of celestial bodies plays in our lives, holistic, integral knowledge about the world is unthinkable. Without it, we will not be able to comprehend what unites us with the universe, nor will we be able to ward off the negative influences of cosmic forces. nor attract the beneficial energies of the cosmos into your life. Our relationship with the stars is a mirror of our relationship with the cosmos as a whole, and they contain the solution to the secrets of our soul and our inner “I”. Any culture in which astrology has not been developed is deprived of access to higher knowledge and loses contact with the universe.

In this sense, modern culture should certainly be called flawed. Despite the fact that our knowledge in the field of astronomy has far surpassed all previous civilizations, without astrology this knowledge is like a body without a soul. We have reduced the sacred forces of the cosmos to the primitive level of numbers and chemical reactions. This attitude is evidence of a loss of true sensitivity to life. It is akin to attempts to reduce human personality to physical parameters such as height and weight, or to evaluate a great painting by the chemical composition of its paints. This limited form of knowledge will never allow us to understand who we really are and what the universe really is.

We are proud of the achievements of modern science in the field of technology, but this science has not come one step closer to the knowledge of the Divine presence in all things. The people of antiquity, relying on astrology and other similar sciences, were far ahead of us in understanding the soul, and if we want to truly move forward in our development, we will have to go back and adopt their approach. Modern man refuses to even classify astrology as a science - on the grounds that it sees in the objects of study not only form, but also spirit. However, if the universe really has consciousness (and many physicists no longer exclude this possibility), then science must recognize the spiritual side of things. And then astrology should receive its rightful place among the sciences of consciousness - and how can one even talk about science or truth without taking consciousness into account?

In order for the dawn of a new spiritual era to finally rise, it is necessary to return astrology to its rightful place - to the forefront of knowledge. Without establishing contact with the great cosmic essence of humanity, the transition to a higher era is impossible, and the stars serve as intermediaries in such contact. But in order to achieve this goal, astrology must be applied at a much deeper level than that to which its understanding usually reaches.

By rejecting astrology, we have made it superficial. It does not receive even a fraction of the attention it deserves, and has almost ceased to serve as a fruitful field of research. An attempt to revive astrology could become one of the most important achievements of our time - if, of course, we have the foresight to undertake it. I sincerely hope that this task will be undertaken by people endowed with equal parts intellect and intuition, for it will require both to complete it.

THE SCIENCE OF TIME (Kala Vidya)

Time is the primordial force that rules the universe. Everything that exists is born in time. The universe itself is time; the creation and destruction of the universe are present in the present at any given moment in time. The laws of time organize everything that exists. Therefore, awe of time is not a prejudice at all. We all stand frozen in wonder at the miracle of birth, and we all fear death. But both are forms of worship of time. We all appreciate and count the moments of our lives. We all want to live forever. Time is the environment in which we live. The rhythm of time - days and seasons, months and years - is the basis of all our actions.

Time is the great God who rules the cosmos. The Great Time, Mahakala, is the Great God Mahadeva, Shiva as the transcendental Lord of existence. The power of time, Mahakali, is his consort, the Great Goddess Mahashakti, the supreme Power. Time is the Divine breath that creates, sustains and destroys the life and form of the universe. Time is the dance of the great God, filled with the beauty and horror of the Great Goddess.

All gods are, first of all, personifications of time. The main gods of time are the Sun, Moon and planets: they control the movement of time in the solar system. The planets reflect the forces of the cosmic mind, which rules all things through the power of time.

From the point of view of modern science, time is not some empty continuum that serves as an external frame for events. It is a force field that depends on the gravitational force of the objects located in it, the main of which - for us, people, living on Earth are the Sun and planets. Planets have powerful magnetic fields. Planets are luminous nodes of a vast energy network, woven from thin lines of force and connecting the entire solar system into a single organism. And despite the fact that the planets seem very far from us, their energy fields reach the Earth and influence the structures of earthly life, including our bodies and souls.

According to ancient seers, time has its own rhythm and cannot be represented as a uniform straight line. Time is the river of life, the flow of which obeys the music of the spheres. It gives rise to a plane of material manifestations, objectified in the form of space. Time creates, supports and destroys all things, which are only waves in its stream, overwhelming eternity.

Each planet moving in its orbit absorbs and emits energy. Each planet is a transmitter of energy with a certain wavelength necessary to maintain order in the solar system. The radiations of the planets form continuously changing energy structures from which the fabric of life and all creation is woven.

The quality of the various phases that we enter throughout life depends on the movement of the planets. The movement of the planets supports those forces that govern the game of our earthly existence. The Earth, in its rotation around its axis, creates a day. The Moon, in its orbit around the Earth, forms a month. The Sun, as the center of the orbit in which the Earth moves, creates a year. Saturn's revolution around the Sun determines a cosmic month lasting thirty years.

Great cycles of time - yugas, each of which covers many millennia - are subject to the laws of planetary conjunctions. They reflect the movement of the Sun relative to other stars or around the center of the Galaxy. Each time cycle is an element of another, larger cycle: the great spiral of creation goes into infinity. And the life of the entire universe is just one day in the life of the Lord of Creation, the One who rests at night on the chest of the Uncreated. Each moment in time has its own special quality. Associated with the forces acting at any given moment is the definition ofshared karma, or fate, or synchronicity. Everything that happens at any given moment inevitably bears the coloring of that moment. This means that by the moment of our birth we can read the structure of our entire life - just as by looking at a tiny seed you can find out the nature of the tree that will grow from it.

Likewise, the moment at which we start a business (for example, we get married) determines how that enterprise will develop. At any given moment in time, the entire universe speaks to us through the consistency of the events of our life with the events of cosmic life, showing us the structure of what we should be. In this sense, life is an open book. But for this book to benefit us, we need to learn to read it. The book of life is the book of time, and therefore the book of the stars.

Being the lords of time, the planets are also the lords of karma (fate). They point us to the cosmic energies that we develop in the course of our lives, and the level at which this development takes place. They show us the forces to which we are exposed and which can harm us. We all live in an ocean of cosmic influences, the transmitters of which are the planets. But, not possessing true knowledge, we are only able to wander blindly among them, not even realizing their existence. and therefore at any moment we risk falling under too strong a blow, which under other circumstances could have been avoided. Such negative collisions with cosmic energies manifest themselves for us as everyday traumas and disasters: illnesses, conflicts, death. At the collective level, they take the form of wars, epidemics and natural disasters. However, one whose spiritual eye is open can avoid most of these troubles. And astrology helps us develop this inner vision with which we can safely navigate our ship through the stormy sea of life.

Astrology shows not only the events of a person’s current life. The planets reveal to the astrologer the secrets of past and future incarnations. All time is subject to the uniform rhythm of birth and death. All living things, not excluding the universe itself, inevitably go through many cycles of birth and death. What is born must die. What has died must be reborn.

Contemplating things as they are today, we also see their yesterday and tomorrow, we see creations and worlds that existed in the past and will appear in the future, we see what we were and what we are to become.

The planets, as energies of time, are directed in their movement into eternity. They not only point out the chains that chain us to time, but also open up for us the path to liberation from these chains, to the transition from the temporary to the eternal. As soon as we become aware of the cosmic forces acting through the planets, we emerge from the power of their external law. These forces become an integral part of ourselves. We take creation back and recreate it in our own hearts. We bring together the cosmic man - our innermost “I”. We gain power over the entire created world. The Universe ceases to be a network of desires entangling us - it turns for us into a patterned carpet of thought on which we can play like children. The planetary rays, which previously ruled over us in our ignorance, become diverse facets of our eternity and immortality.

Astrology is a symbol of spiritual development, a symbol of the evolution of consciousness. We can meditate on its various elements and find in them archetypes that contribute to our inner development. The language of astrology can be used as a symbolic tool - without even resorting to calculations or any particular branches of astrological science. In the end, each of us will comprehend all the forces personified in the planets and become all that exists. Therefore, do not become attached to the structure of your personal destiny - but use it as a gateway leading to cosmic life.
