What do you need to get into music school? How to get into a music school or college

To say that the topic of music education is of interest to the modern parent is to say nothing. The fashion for it, unlike many other activities, has not faded since Soviet times. Parents without exception sent their offspring to music schools, being sure that musical talent a child can appear completely unexpectedly, and it is a pity to bury it in the ground without even opening it. This tradition turned out to be so strong that music schools are not empty even today.

Music schools (incomplete secondary music education)

In my time music schools so many were built that they can now be found in almost any city and any area. This is not the question. Not every music school today is easy to get into, especially if it has established itself as a strong educational institution.

It is recommended to send a child to a music school from about 7 years old, however, most schools have preparatory courses (usually paid) for children 5-6 years old. Education in music schools is also paid, but the amount is small - about 200-500 rubles. per month. The optimal ages for admission are divided into 2 categories: 7-8 and 9-11 years old. In the first case, training lasts 7 years ("seven years"), in the second - 5 ("five years"). It is possible to enter a music school later, but after 15 it becomes a non-trivial task: the probability of raising a musician at this age is extremely small, and few teachers agree to experiment.
Enrollment in school usually takes place in April-May, in early September it is often also held additional set students.

The admission procedure is extremely simple: in most schools it is enough to pass an audition - the teacher checks the child's hearing and sense of rhythm and makes a decision based on this.
A very small percentage of applicants are weeded out. By the way, desire is far from last parameter at the audition. The chances of getting into training are much greater for a child with imperfect performance and a great desire to improve them than for a talented child whose parents brought him to a music school “by the ear”.

Choice of specialty

The phrase "go to music school" doesn't really mean anything. There are a lot of disciplines, and not all of them can be obtained at a music school. The emphasis in training is usually on the "specialty", which is to master a musical instrument or your own voice. In the first case, the training courses are divided into departments, within each of which the student chooses a specific instrument for himself: piano, strings, wind, folk and percussion. The pop department stands a little apart (on it the electric guitar, bass guitar, drum set and synthesizer are studied). If there is a desire to sing, then here you can choose between the vocal class and the choir department, but one does not interfere with the other. The choir as an elective is available when mastering any musical instrument. In addition to the specialty at the music school, such subjects as "Solfeggio", "Musical Literature" and "General Piano" are also studied without fail.

Generally, elementary education in Russian music schools is considered to be of high quality. But still, do not forget that a lot depends on the teacher in the specialty, since this person works with your child individually and is able to influence not only the development of his musical talents, but also personal growth.

Schools (secondary musical education)

IN School of Music You can enter both after the 9th and after the 11th grade. The conditions for admission are fundamentally different from those in music schools. Entrance examinations consist in most cases of examinations in the Russian language, literature and musical disciplines: performing skills, solfeggio (musical dictation) and musical literature. It should also be remembered that it is not easy to enter the vocal department of a serious school, since there are plenty of people who are confident in their creative abilities, which cannot be said about the number of places. The competition for this specialty is traditionally high. Also, unlike music schools, colleges can specialize in conducting and music theory.

Admission of candidates to the school is carried out according to the results of competitive entrance examinations in the Russian language and musical disciplines, checking their psychological readiness for studying at a school, physical fitness, as well as on the basis of an assessment of documents characterizing the social, creative and sports achievements of candidates.

During the competitive entrance examinations are carried out:

  • determining the psychological readiness of candidates for training;
  • determining the physical fitness of candidates;
  • entrance examinations in the Russian language and musical disciplines.

Determining the psychological readiness of candidates for training includes their socio-psychological study, as well as psychological and psycho-physiological examinations, based on the results of which appropriate conclusions are prepared.

Determination of the physical fitness of candidates. Candidates perform exercises: pull-ups on the bar, 100 m run, 1 km run.

If you are going to be professional musician, then you are ready for hard and hard everyday work. Complete musical education in our country is one of the longest. First you need to unlearn 7 years at a music school, then 4 years at a college or school, and then another 5 years at a university. For people who have a good musical aptitude, this path is a little shorter, but by no means easier.

Until what age can you get a musical education?

Probably, his parents tried to send almost every person to a music school, but not all of them graduated from it. Where else can you get a musical education?

Russian classical music education is highly valued all over the world. Therefore, if you are serious about becoming a famous professional musician, be sure to try to graduate good university. You have to make music every day and only it, but the result is definitely worth it.

In contact with

After successfully graduating from a music college, you will be able to work as a teacher in a general education or music school or continue your education at the conservatory.

Let's define the terminology. In 2008, the legislative norms of the Russian Federation clearly established that a college is a secondary specialized educational institution that implements the main learning programs secondary vocational education of basic training and advanced training programs of secondary vocational education.

Each educational institution, formerly called a school or "bursa", now has the right to be called a college. Thus, the information describing admission to a music college is also relevant for music schools, since many people call music colleges schools in the old fashioned way.

College choice

By and large main criterion- remoteness from the place of residence: the closer the college is to home, the better. Studying in "elite" colleges is a matter of prosperity. If the income is not too high, there is no point in trying to study at a college that claims its unique teaching methods and thus justifies the impressive cost of education.

Budget colleges better themes that in them you can not only study for free, but also with good academic performance, receive a monthly scholarship.

Some students are interested military music schools. With military schools the situation is twofold. On the one hand, this type of secondary professional music education is more promising, because the set of disciplines studied is expanded due to military theme. On the other hand, experts note that the military orientation often leads to a narrowing of the profile part and a decrease in the quality of the musical component of the educational program.

Entrance tests

Admission to a music college is unlikely in the absence of a diploma from a music school.

Test yourself

To boost your confidence, answer the questions below. If you answer “yes” to at least 5 questions without hesitation, your chances of successfully entering a music college are quite high.

  1. Do you know everything about keys, types of major and minor, chromatic scales?
  2. Can you pick up a melody and accompaniment to a piece by listening to it several times?
  3. After listening to a new work, can you name all the notes that sounded in it?
  4. Do you know all the durations and intervals of the sound, can you sing them?
  5. Do you know all the chords and harmonies from school curriculum, can you build them on the instrument and in musical notation hearing only their names?
  6. Can you tell the biographies of Tchaikovsky, Bach, Beethoven, Wagner, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, and also tell about the content of their music and list at least a few works by these composers?
  7. Do you know everything about classic and universally recognized modern musical forms, genres and directions?
  • Be sure to specialize. If at school you studied in the guitar class, then at the school (college) you can also enter the department of wind instruments. But of course, you will perform the introductory academic concert on the guitar.
  • Before entering, pay serious attention to training in solfeggio and musical literature. Students of music schools, as a rule, are extremely frivolous in these subjects, as they believe that the most important thing is to master your instrument masterfully.

When entering college, knowledge of theory, history, musical literature, solfeggio is checked very carefully. And if you are determined to receive a thorough music education, without solfeggio in any way. Therefore, a few months before admission, it is better to hire a tutor and pull up these disciplines. Believe me, they are not at all as complicated and boring as they seem. If a tutor is too expensive, feel free to ask your music school teacher for help.

  • Work as hard as you can. Keep in mind that getting into a music college is only half the battle. In order not to “fly out” from there during the learning process, you will have to devote at least 5 hours to mastering the instrument every day. Therefore, you can start entering this mode of operation in advance. Remember: only fans of their business achieve true success. Even the most outstanding abilities are easily ruined by idleness and laziness.
