The Zoological Museum is the first and largest university museum in Russia, one of the top ten largest zoological collections in the world. The museum's exposition introduces the entire diversity of modern animals - from single-celled organisms to birds and mammals. Many of the exhibits are of a very respectable age: these are stuffed animals created by the best taxidermists in the second half of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century. Some of them are associated with the names of famous travelers, explorers, public figures and has not only scientific, but also historical value. The display cases of two halls, made in Dresden by order of the museum immediately after its move to the building on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street in 1902, as well as the floor tiles made at the Villeroy & Boch factory in Merzig, have already acquired museum value.
