In the summer of the same year, Mnet Media announced that Jiae and Jiwon would leave the team due to differences in views on the music format. Three new members took their place.

The first was Boram, the daughter of singer Jung Young-Rok and actress Lee Mi-Young. Soyeon, a former SM Entertainment trainee who was supposed to become the leader of another group, and a girl named Curie joined the new lineup less than a month before their debut performance. In early July 2009, the group signed a contract with a subsidiary of Core Contents Media. This is where the history of the creation of the group begins.

T-ara made her debut on Mnet's music show M Countdown on July 30, 2009, where she performed the single Geojitmal. In the summer of the same year, the singers committed a noble act: they donated all the proceeds from their online store to charity for African children.

On July 16, 2010, representatives of the pop group announced Hwayoung as a new member as a rapper. The reason for her appearance in the lineup was the banal lack of female artists at concerts at a time when some singers are pursuing solo careers or participating in other projects.

The second album in John Travolta's discography, Wannabe, was released on June 29, 2011. It peaked at number 3 on the album chart in Korea and sold over 30,000 copies before the end of the year. The single Roly-Poly from this record reached 1st place in the charts in its homeland and became the best-selling in 2011. The video for this track has received more than a million views. From that moment on, the producers decided to enter the Japanese market.

The following February, T-ara was ranked 17th on Forbes Korea's Celebrity 40 list of Korea, making them the third most popular girl group and the seventh most powerful female celebrity in the country.
