The wheel on the wireless mouse does not work well. The video on the mouse does not work

Perhaps one of the most common breakdowns is problems with the scroll wheel. As I already noted, there are two types of such breakdowns:


1. The wheel does not work completely ( I discuss this case in the article).
2. The wheel works, but in jerks.

Here I am considering the second option, when the pages on the screen scroll jerkily up and down, and not smoothly, as expected. This indicates that the mouse scroll mechanism has become loose. By the way, this problem is a characteristic feature of X7 mice from A4Tech. It occurs in almost any model of this series after six months of active use. However, sometimes this behavior is related to the settings of the mouse or a specific program. For example, this may be why .

There are three ways to repair a loose scroll mechanism:



I. Lubricating the scroll mechanism

This is a method for those whose scrolling mechanism has not yet completely worn out, as well as to prevent problems with scrolling in new mice.I strongly recommend starting your renovation with this method!

1. Disassemble the mouse

To begin with, if your mouse wheel does not work (it moves jerkily), you need to disassemble its body. One screw is usually visible, another is hidden under a sticker. In some models, a couple more screws may be under the legs. Notice how the mouse cord was located in the case.

2. Clean the sensor

Having disassembled the case, you will immediately notice a wheel inserted into a special mechanism. It is he who is responsible for scrolling pages on the screen. You need to drop 2-3 drops of alcohol on it, then turn the wheel and blow it out with your mouth. The operation must be repeated several times.

3. Lubricate

For lubrication you need high-quality liquid oil. It should not be thin like water, but thick enough to drip. You can also use silicone lubricant, for example in aerosol cans, which are available in any auto store.

You need to drop 1-2 drops inside the scroll mechanism, then spin the wheel to better distribute the lubricant. Remove excess if oil leaks out.



II. Fixation with metal staples

This method should be used if the scrolling mechanism is already completely loose and lubrication no longer helps. Wayeffective in cases wheremouse wheel doesn't work , however somewhat labor intensive and requires soldering iron skills.


1. Again, disassemble the mouse (see previous paragraphs)

2. Install the staples

Now you need to make metal brackets with which to secure the scroll mechanism.

There are two options here:

a) Without soldering. You can make two U-shaped brackets from metal plates (for example, from car wiring terminals). Such staples will be attached by crimping with pliers without using soldering.This method is preferable, since staples attached by soldering may fall off during subsequent disassembly. I think there is nothing complicated in this method. For a better understanding, look at the photo:

Don't forget to lubricate the scroll upon completion of work (see point I).

b) With soldering. Also, staples can be made from copper wire approximately 1 mm thick. Other metals will not be suitable, since due to their high elasticity they are difficult to compress, and they are also difficult to solder.

The brackets are made in the form of an equal angle. A piece of wire is fixed in a vice and then carefully bent at a right angle. You can bend it with pliers or by gently tapping it with a hammer. The ends of the staples are lightly filed with a file to give them a flat shape.

The final stage: pre-prepared staples are soldered at one end to the metal side of the scroll. Instead of long explanations, I suggest you carefully consider this photo:


The soldered corners can be pressed a little more with pliers, but this must be done extremely carefully and only if the quality of the soldering allows it. The interfering ends of the staples (if any) are filed off with a file.

At the end of the work, it won’t hurt to lubricate the scroll mechanism (see point I). This will avoid oxidation and increase the service life of the scroll.



III. Preloading the encoder (“wheel sensor”)

This method is also used for seriously loose scroll mechanisms. It is much simpler and less labor-intensive than the previous method, but less effective. A scroll repaired in this way will begin to act up again in a month and a half to two months, and subsequent repairs will last for an even shorter period.

1. Disassemble the mouse (see previous paragraphs)

2. Press the encoder (“wheel sensor”)

Having disassembled the case, you will immediately notice a wheel inserted into a special mechanism. It is he who is responsible for scrolling pages on the screen. Now, using pliers, you need to tighten this mechanism a little. This must be done very carefully. Remember: you can always tighten it up a little more, but you can’t restore an already broken scroll mechanism.


This is what the scroll mechanism looks like. The arrows indicate the places that need to be tightened.

You can make a thin spacer in the hole where the wheel pin is inserted (electrical tape is ideal for this). Now it will fit more tightly to the scroll mechanism.

3. Check functionality

When finished, you need to check how the wheel turns. If necessary, you can press it a little more. Then the mouse body is assembled.

Why does the page jerk when scrolling?

DIY mouse repair

We will need tools such as a screwdriver, in my case a Phillips head, and pliers, also known as pliers. And the first thing we need to do is perform an autopsy on our patient. Carefully, without unnecessary effort, we press the metal part of our experimental subject. Just don’t overdo it and tear it all off by the roots. If it is possible to remove the wheel, then remove it.
I did this with both mice and the page no longer jerks when scrolling. In this way, you can extend the life of this device for some time. Of course, I have them on a budget, but it’s a shame when this happened to an expensive gaming device. I recommend this solution to you and let me know if it helped you or not. Despite the fact that in modern solutions the mechanical method of determining the position of the cursor has not been used for a long time, having given way to a more promising optocoupler principle, the number of topics on forums and support service sites where users claim that the mouse wheel does not work is still large. This malfunction can manifest itself in different ways: for some, an attempt to scroll leads to spontaneous movement of the page up and down, for others it is impossible to achieve any one scrolling speed. Of course, if the mouse wheel does not work, then its functions in most programs can be duplicated using a special slider, as was the case before, in the era of mice without a wheel. Although, as you know, a person gets used to good things quickly. Accordingly, when the user notices that the mouse wheel does not work, he buys a new one or tries to repair the existing one.

Disassembly

Although now the cost of mice is quite low, especially budget models, and everyone can afford to buy a new device, nevertheless, sometimes you don’t want to exchange your usual mouse for an unfamiliar “rodent”. There is an exit! A problem where the mouse wheel does not work is usually easy to fix. To do this, you should disconnect the device from the computer - accidentally touching the board elements can permanently damage the mouse. Then you need to unscrew all the retaining screws from the bottom side. They can be under the pillow legs or a sticker. These elements are easily pryed off with a thin screwdriver. After this you can remove the cover. By the way, sometimes there is an additional latch, so accuracy and leisure are required - excessive force is not required here. Now you can see the culprit of the malfunction - the wheel.

Repair. Mechanics

You should not try to remove it from the latch by bending the latter. It is much more efficient to lift the main board (sometimes it is held in place with screws) and remove it from the guides at an angle. Further actions depend on the position determination scheme used. In some models, a common axis rotates a small plastic disk with a block of locking contacts. In this case, the mouse wheel does not work (because the metal plates have oxidized and current does not pass through them). It is necessary to carefully bend the clamps and remove the disk rotated by the axis. There are contacts on the inside of it - they need to be wiped with cotton wool moistened with alcohol. Assembly is carried out in reverse order. However, such systems are becoming increasingly rare. If the wheel of an x7 mouse does not work, in which an optocoupler pair is installed, and not contacts, then recovery is performed differently.

Optics

In new models, the wheel disk itself is perforated. On one side of the board there is an LED, and on the other there is a photocell. During rotation, the flow of light is interrupted, and the pulses themselves (alternating “yes - no”) are converted by electronics into displacement signals. Malfunction may occur due to clogged holes. Simple cleaning helps.

Addition

Sometimes the problem lies in the fact that over the years of using the mouse, a layer of dust and grease accumulates between the plastic base and the rubber coating of the wheel. All this needs to be removed, wiped with alcohol and all components of the device returned to their place.

Modern computer mice are not what they used to be. Their quality leaves much to be desired. And their prices have increased significantly in the current economy. Not everyone can afford to buy a good expensive mouse. And if it so happens that scrolling on your mouse has stopped working (you turn the wheel, but the page on the Internet does not scroll), and oh, how you don’t want to change your favorite mouse for another! Then I offer you an alternative, to repair it.

A short excursion into history. This is what one of the first mice looked like.

She didn't have a roller to scroll yet. It has a ps/2 connector. And the mechanism for detecting mouse movement is mechanical.

It is a rubberized metal ball that rotates two shafts with wheels responsible for moving back and forth and left and right, using optical sensors that count the number of slots on the shaft wheel and thereby determine how much to move the mouse cursor.

Before us is a modern optical mouse, in which you can change the resolution of the optical signal receiver. With higher resolution, the mouse becomes more sensitive!

Her scroll roller broke. In order to repair it, we need a donor mouse. If you have any broken mouse with another problem, then it will be quite suitable. The main thing is that the roller shaft fits in size.

Let's disassemble the mouse. Peel off the 4 legs and unscrew the bolts under them.

We open it into 2 parts.

Remove the scroll wheel from the grooves.

As you can see in the photo below, its axle is broken off.

The donor mouse clip is smaller than needed. We remove the elastic from the broken one and put it on the working one. And we install the roller in place.

We assemble the mouse and check it. The only negative: the roller button does not work. The axis is a slightly different shape and is missing the button.

The mouse works again. We are happy with the work done!

The mouse is the most convenient pointing device that exists today for a personal computer. It was created in 1968, but it has not lost its relevance and recognition to this day. But since each person is individual, the mouse parameters cannot be averaged for everyone. That is why there is a section in the Control Panel where you can customize all the parameters of the manipulator. Setting up a mouse in Windows 7 is easy.

How to adjust mouse sensitivity

The first inconvenience that a user may encounter when working with a mouse is its sensitivity. Different models of such manipulators have different amounts of DPI, or optical resolution of the mouse, due to which, among other things, the speed of cursor movement is determined. For this reason, the new mouse may “run” across the screen too quickly or too slowly. Well, why not take it back to the store? So we will correct the not entirely convenient speed.

To start adjusting the sensitivity of our mouse, you should open the Control Panel. This can be done very easily - press the Win + R combination and enter the word control. After clicking on the standard OK, the required window will open. Here our goal is the “Mouse” section, which can be seen if you set the display of all elements.

Click on this section - a new small window will open with a bunch of tabs. Of these, one is needed now: “Pointer Parameters”.

On this tab you can set in detail exactly how our cursor will move. If you are only concerned about its speed, just change the position of the very first slider, setting the required amount of sensitivity. You can check the speed right there by simply moving the mouse. In this case, it is desirable that increased installation accuracy be turned on, otherwise the pointer will dangle in space like a leaf in the wind.

By the way, if you find it difficult to find the cursor on the monitor, in the “Visibility” section you can set the display of the pointer using the CTRL key (the very last checkbox) or display its trace when moving (the first checkbox).

After making changes, it is enough to apply them, and you will no longer have to suffer with a lack or excess of sensitivity.

How to adjust the mouse wheel

In some cases, we, just like the speed of the mouse, may not be satisfied with the operation of its wheel. As a rule, the wheel pitch of all manipulators differs in softness or speed. If it is too tight and clear, the page may scroll too slowly, and if it is almost not felt, then too quickly. Therefore, this parameter can be configured separately for each mouse.

If you have already closed the mouse settings window, then open it again using the method described above and go to the “Wheel” tab. We will see only two settings - for scrolling information in the window horizontally and vertically with one “click” of the wheel. First of all, we are interested in vertical scrolling, since not all mice have horizontal scrolling.

By the way, it’s very easy to find out whether your mouse supports horizontal scrolling. Try tilting the wheel to the right or left. If it works, it means there is still support for horizontal scrolling.

In this tab, set the parameters at your discretion. Remember only one thing - the fewer lines or characters are scrolled at a time, the slower the window will scroll in principle, and vice versa. You need to select this parameter directly for the user and his device. Then you need to apply the settings and close the window for changing wheel parameters.

Other useful settings

In addition to the standard settings, you can also change some specific ones. This is very useful when the use of the mouse is somewhat different from the usual, regulated by the system and initial parameters.

Mouse buttons

Here you can adjust the mouse “for a left-hander” by checking the “Change button values” checkbox, adjust the speed of double-clicking the left mouse button, and also enable such a useful function as sticking.
