TEFI is an industrial television award awarded for the highest achievements in the field of television arts. The award was established by the Academy of Russian Television Foundation on December 21, 1994 and in different years included a different number of nominations. Since 2014, the award has been organized by the Industrial Television Awards Committee. The winners are traditionally awarded with a bronze statuette "Orpheus" by Ernst Neizvestny.
“Let me remind you that participation is more important than any award, and the very opportunity to enter the top three is already the recognition of colleagues ... All nominees are already winners,” said Mikhail Shvydkoi, Chairman of the Board of Founders of the Industrial Television Awards Committee, opening the ceremony.
He urged everyone to feel lucky and emphasized that if the Internet ever suddenly wants to take revenge on television, everyone present will still work there, because they are the “amazing content”.
The winner of the award in the Morning Program nomination was Good Morning on Channel One, and Yulia Vysotskaya (We Eat at Home, NTV) was recognized as the best host of the morning program.
In the nomination "Daytime Talk Show", the winner was "Time Will Show" (Channel One), and the best "Documentary Project" was the project "Naina Yeltsina. A story in love ”(“ Russia 1 ″).
The best on the domestic TV reality show was "The Boys" on the channel "Friday". In the nomination “TV project about sports” the winner was “Alexander Karelin. A duel with oneself ”(Match TV).
Sergey Gimaev (“Youth Ice Hockey World Championship. Russia-USA”, “Match TV”) was recognized as the best host of a sports program / sports commentator. The award was presented posthumously. His son received the statuette for his father. All those present paid tribute to the memory of Gimaev, who passed away in March 2017 at the age of 62.
The Blind Mules project (REN TV) won in the Investigative Journalism nomination. The winner of the award in the nomination "Entertainment program" Lifestyle "was" Rules of Life "on" Russia K ". "Military Secret" on REN TV was recognized as the best educational program.
In the nomination "Telegame" the winner was "Own game" on NTV, and in the nomination "Program for children and youth" the winner was "ABVGDeyka" (TV Center).

The first winner in the category "Evening Prime" was the program of the First Channel "Time", which was named the best in the nomination "Information program". TV presenter Vladimir Pozner asked the Industrial Television Awards Committee to stop using the name TEFI when presenting the award and to abandon the statuette by Ernst Neizvestny, which has been awarded to winners since the award was founded. The journalist expressed his opinion in an open letter, which he published on his official website Posner Online.
In the letter, Posner notes that when creating the award, for a long time they could not find the author of the award for journalists, so he turned to the sculptor Ernest Neizvestny with a request to create a prize for the winners of the TEFI competition. In return, according to Posner, the sculptor took a promise from the journalist that the choice of winners would be fair and democratic. In the event that “the democracy of choosing the recipients of Orpheus is not respected,” then Posner will make every effort to ensure that the award ceases to exist.
As the main reason for the cancellation of the competition, the journalist names the change of organizers of TEFI. Initially, the Academy of Russian Television (ART) was in charge of the award, but in 2013 the Industrial Committee (IC) was formed, which began to hold the competition instead of the Academy. Also, two key players in Russian television, NTV and VGTRK, left the organization, which negatively affected the quality of the award.
It is hardly possible to argue with the fact that the current procedure for holding TEFI has nothing to do with the democratic choice.Firstly, the composition of the IC includes only seven founders - exactly half as many as were part of the Academy.Secondly, the number of professional nominations has been sharply reduced, a number of professions are left behind, without which there is simply no television.Third, the finalists and winners are chosen not by the members of the Academy of Russian Television, but by the “jury” appointed by the management of the IC

In conclusion, the publicist noted that when reforming the competition, the Committee and the Academy signed an agreement, according to which the latter was to receive dividends for the right to use the TEFI brand and the figurine itself, but the current organizers have not yet paid anything.

In an interview with the editors of 360, the host of the Dobrov on Air program on REN TV, who received the award in the nomination “Best Presenter of the Information and Analytical Final Program”, Andrey Dobrov, said that he did not share the opinion of Vladimir Pozner about the lack of a “democratic choice” in the award.

The TV presenter noted that it does not matter what the award will be called and who will act as the organizer, the main thing is that journalists receive awards for their professional achievements.
The award nominee, host of the Special Article program on the Zvezda TV channel, Alexei Gudoshnikov, called the disputes around TEFI a purely professional matter that does not interest viewers, but can affect decisions within the television workshop.
Vladimir Pozner is considered a landmark figure for Russian television, therefore, if not the organizers, then the professional community will definitely listen to his opinion, they will draw the appropriate conclusions for sure. However, arguing about whether the nominees received their awards deservedly is unethical and pointless, since all journalists work for the benefit of the development of modern television.

However, it was not without "nezhdanchikov". Mikhail Shvydkoy unexpectedly announced the award of two more TEFIs! The first statuette, a special prize, was received by the series "Sofia" ("Russia 1") - really magnificent. And one more surprise. All news and analytical TV programs must be broadcast live. It is not true that now there is censorship and such a program as Vzglyad is impossible. There is no censorship. We are much more free than we were 30 years ago when The View began. Now is the time of unprecedented freedom. There is an opportunity to calmly, soberly look at the past, present, and future. No need to cling to words to do nothing. Be free. Do not be silent.
The winners were invited to the stage. They were wonderful and happy. But while there is a pause in the presentation of the next nominees, the leaders of the evening prime, we can sum up the intermediate result. It's intermediate, not final.
In the first approximation, one thing is obvious - the channel "TV Center" has risen very actively. The leading position of the First, NTV, the activity of the REN TV channel is obvious, but in the case of the TV Center, the prediction of Mikhail Shvydkoy, who predicted success and further growth for the channel, is slowly but surely starting to come true.
