TEFI is an industrial television award awarded for the highest achievements in the field of television arts. The award was established by the Academy of Russian Television Foundation on December 21, 1994 and different years included a varying number of nominations. Since 2014, the organizer of the award is the Industrial Television Awards Committee. The winners are traditionally awarded a bronze statuette “Orpheus” by Ernst Neizvestny.
“I will remind you that participation is more important than any award, and the very opportunity to enter the top three is already recognition of colleagues... All nominees are already winners,” said Mikhail Shvydkoy, Chairman of the Founding Council of the Industrial Television Awards Committee, opening the ceremony.
He called on everyone to feel lucky and emphasized that if the Internet ever suddenly wants to take revenge on television, everyone present will still work there, because they are the ones who make up the “amazing content.”
The winner of the award in the Morning Program category was “ Good morning"on Channel One, and the best presenter morning program Yulia Vysotskaya (“Eating at Home”, NTV) was recognized.
In the “Daytime Talk Show” nomination, “Time will show” (Channel One) won, and the best “Documentary project” was the project “Naina Yeltsina. A love story" (“Russia 1″).
The best reality show on domestic TV was “Boys” on the “Friday” channel. “Alexander Karelin” won in the “Television project about sports” category. A duel with yourself" (Match TV).
Sergey Gimaev (“Youth World Hockey Championship. Russia-USA”, “Match TV”) was recognized as the best sports program presenter/sports commentator. The award was presented posthumously. For his father, his son received the statuette. All those present paid tribute to the memory of Gimaev, who passed away in March 2017 at the age of 62.
In the “Investigative Journalism” category, the “Blind Mules” project (REN TV) won. Winner of the award in the category " Entertainment“Lifestyle” became “Rules of Life” on “Russia K”. “Military Secret” on REN TV was recognized as the best educational program.
In the “TV Game” nomination, “Own Game” on NTV won, and in the “Program for Children and Youth” nomination, “ABVGDeyka” (TV Center) won.

TV presenter Vladimir Pozner asked the Industrial Television Awards Committee to stop using the name TEFI when presenting the award and to abandon the statuette by Ernst Neizvestny, which has been awarded to winners since the foundation of the award. The journalist expressed his opinion in an open letter, which he published on his official website “Posner online”.
In the letter, Posner notes that when creating the award for a long time could not find the author of the award for journalists, so he turned to the sculptor Ernest Neizvestny with a request to create a prize for the winners of the TEFI competition. In return, according to Posner, the sculptor made a promise from the journalist that the choice of winners would be fair and democratic. If “the democracy of choosing Orpheus recipients is not respected,” then Posner will make every effort to ensure that the award ceases to exist.
The journalist cites the change of TEFI organizers as the main reason for canceling the competition. Initially, the Academy was in charge of the award. Russian television(ART), but in 2013 the Industrial Committee (IC) was formed, which began holding the competition instead of the Academy. Also, two key players in Russian television, NTV and VGTRK, left the organization, which negatively affected the quality of the award.
It is hardly possible to argue with the fact that the current procedure for conducting TEFI has nothing to do with democratic choice.Firstly, the IC includes only seven founders - exactly half as many as were included in the Academy.Secondly, the number of professional nominations has been sharply reduced, the whole line professions without which there is simply no television.Third, the finalists and winners are chosen not by members of the Academy of Russian Television, but by a “jury” appointed by the leadership of the Executive Committee

In conclusion, the publicist noted that when reforming the competition, the Committee and the Academy signed an agreement, according to which the latter was supposed to receive dividends for the right to use the TEFI brand and the figurine itself, but the current organizers have still not paid anything.

In a conversation with the editors of “360,” Andrei Dobrov, the host of the “Dobrov on Air” program on REN TV, who received the award in the category “Best Presenter of an Information and Analytical Final Program,” said that he does not share Vladimir Pozner’s opinion about the lack of “democratic choice” in the award.

However, there were some unexpected surprises. Mikhail Shvydkoy unexpectedly announced the presentation of two more TEFIs! The first statuette, a special prize, went to the series “Sofia” (“Russia 1”) - truly magnificent. And one more surprise. The project “You are super! Finale in the Kremlin” also received a special jury prize. Bravo, NTV!
NTV General Producer Timur Weinstein thanked for the prize, but emphasized that the highest reward for the channel is the gratitude of the children involved in the project, their happy eyes, their joy.
In the meantime, new presenters appeared on the stage - Andrei Malakhov and Boris Korchevnikov. And Mikhail Shvydkoy, of course. This is a serious matter, after all, we are talking about the main TEFI!

The producers of the “Best of All” project, the film “Ekaterina” and the “Dancing” project on TNT also decided to nominate. Ilya Krivitsky received a fair award for “Best of All” - and rightly so!
Well, the best actress was Chulpan Khamatova (for her role as Bella Akhmadulina in the TV series “Mysterious Passion”), who thus beat out Marina Alexandrova and Anna Banshchikova.
Mikhail Efremov, Denis Nikiforov, and Evgeny Tsyganov fought for the right to receive the TEFI in the “Best Actor” category. The statuette rightly went to Mikhail Efremov for his role in the film “Drunk Firm”. I must say that this award was applauded by the entire press center.

Neither “Mysterious Passion,” based on the novel by Vasily Aksenov, nor “The Optimists,” a film produced by Valery Todorovsky’s production company, received the coveted statuette.
Smiling Igor and serious Vadim, the Vernik brothers, came out to announce the winners in the “television series” category. And then it turned out that TEFI went to “Olga” - a funny and high-quality TNT series.
The most humorous were... "comedy club members"! For many it was unexpected, but essentially sweet.
“The best presenter of an entertainment program,” the presenters announced. And the hall froze. Galkin? Takmenev? "Comedy club"? Don’t rush to guess, everything is already obvious. It was Maxim Galkin. This year he had several projects, but “Best of all!” is definitely worthy of an award.

The ceremony was delayed for a good half hour. The evening was becoming languid, but not for the stars. They felt nervous but good.

I do not believe that now is “timelessness”, as some claim, referring to modern television. Man himself determines whether it is time or timelessness. I think that live broadcasts need to be revived.
All news and analytical television programs must be broadcast in live. It is not true that now there is censorship and a program like “Vzglyad” is impossible. There is no censorship. We are much freer than 30 years ago, when Vzglyad began. Now is a time of unprecedented freedom. There is an opportunity to calmly, soberly look at the past, present, and future. There is no need to cling to words in order to do nothing. Be free. Do not be silent.
The winners were invited to the stage. They were beautiful and happy. But for now there has been a pause in presenting the next nominees, leaders evening prime, we can sum up the intermediate result. It is intermediate, not final.
To a first approximation, one thing is obvious - the TV Center channel has become very active. The leading position of the First, NTV, the activity of the REN TV channel is obvious, but in the case of TV Center, the prediction of Mikhail Shvydkoy, who predicted success and further growth for the channel, is slowly but surely beginning to come true. By the way, behind-the-scenes rumors said the same thing: back in the summer, at that essentially disrupted event, “TV Center” received such a number of votes that it shocked many.
