Drawing with paints for beginners. How to learn to paint with watercolors

There are never many ideas for creativity, and if in creative process children also participate - you must admit, it often becomes not only creative, but also research. WITH simple techniques use of watercolor, which will show us the properties of some ordinary items introduces us today to Anastasia Borisova , blog author English4.me - English for me and my family. Anastasia's blog is not only about language, but also about creativity, so today we are going on an excursion to creative pantries and learning simple watercolor techniques and techniques.

How many creative and well-rounded moms are here on ! And interesting finds await us at every turn. Many mothers, seeing after any class the incredible result of their 2-4 summer child- though not always the same as intended - they exclaim: “How original and simple! Where is it taught? Everyone wants to become a little sorceress for their children.

Here I am, using the simplest techniques, in 15 minutes I drew a winter landscape, which my husband considered worthy of putting up for sale. 🙂

The best children's books

The non-standard use of materials and the variety of effects created give the child the feeling of “I can!”, And the mother, who thought all her life that she could not draw, is allowed to overcome “I can’t”.

Watercolor is a fluid and naughty thing. We will use just these not always convenient properties of it, creating "masterpieces" mostly "wet".

1. Crayon resistance effect - manifestations of wax crayon

This is perhaps the most common technique. With a wax crayon or a candle, a drawing or an inscription is applied to a sheet of paper, and painted over with watercolors on top. Using white chalk or a candle, you can make secret notes or congratulations; yellow chalk creates a glow effect; bright blues, greens and pinks under dark watercolor - neon effect. You can also combine this technique with rubbing. We put a textured substrate under the sheet (everything that is found at home) and rub it on top with the flat side of the chalk. If you do this carefully, and put leaves or some kind of relief object, you get excellent prints.

2. Salt - wet watercolor salt

By sprinkling salt on a still wet stained sheet, you can achieve amusing effects. Medium-coarse salt, when dried, leaves “snowflakes” on blue. On a green background, translucent foliage will turn out. Fine salt-extra dries almost tightly. So you can add texture to the road, stone, create a galaxy.

3. Blotting - whitening paint.

By removing excess water and a layer of paint from a sheet with a dry napkin, you can draw winter fir trees covered with snow, or sea foam. A pale moon or sun will turn out if you wrap a tube from toilet paper and wet the watercolor sky. Even an already dried drawing can be corrected by sprinkling it with water and gently rubbing the right place.

If you crumple a napkin and apply it to the blue sky, you will get very natural clouds.

A crumpled napkin also allows you to get an interesting texture. Texture sheets can then be successfully used to create collages.

4. Pressing

The figure above shows a clear inscription in dark letters (I ...). It's made on wet watercolor with the tip of the brush (the paint seems to flow into the pressed hollows). Thus, you can sign the drawing or add details. The same principle applies to placing a sheet of wet watercolor with a textured object on it under the press. It is best, of course, to print the leaves in this way. But even from feathers and branches of a Christmas tree, a good decorative picture comes out.

5. Splatter and spray

A toothbrush plus watercolor will help to make rain, snow, leaf fall, depict the wind. It's interesting just to splatter different paints on a dry sheet. A moistened leaf will give a completely different effect. It will be possible to watch how the droplets blur, merging with each other into a fancy ornament.

You can spray around the stencil, or vice versa inside it. A consistently original result is guaranteed. Just do not forget to cover the workspace with newspapers, the paint scatters far.

6. Masking tape - drawing with masking tape

I was surprised to find that the aforementioned adhesive tape peels off the paper perfectly several times, which means that we use it as the basis for the stencil. You can tear it with your hands into uneven strips and draw a forest.

Any are great geometric compositions. You can even cut something more detailed into the thickness of the adhesive tape, such as the houses in the first photo. The main thing is that this stencil does not need to be additionally fixed and held, and the probability of paint getting under it is not great if the edges are well smoothed.

7. Foam painting - drawing with foam

Fun and beautiful texture in one bottle. In a container you need to mix water, a little liquid soap and a lot of paint. We give the child a tube and allow him to blow bubbles. As soon as a tall hat grows, we apply paper to it. At the same time, it is better to completely undress the child, so that later it would be easier to wash.

8. Alcohol and citric acid - alcohol and citric acid

Both liquids seem to “push apart” and “eat away” the paint. A drop of alcohol gives the effect of "fish eye" (fish eye), while its volatility can create additional areolas around this eye, similar to the halo around the sun. Very unusual.

Lemon juice spreads well over a fresh watercolor, but it does not affect the dried one in any way. It itself spreads quite strongly, so it is important not to overdo it. IN ideal get such "shaggy" blots. After drying, they can be turned into monsters or someone else by adding arms, legs, eyes.

9. Stamping

For my taste, it is better to work with stamps with thicker paints - gouache, acrylic. You can use whatever is at hand, as well as cut out stamps from potatoes, print vegetables on a cut, etc. Watercolor is well suited for creating textures. We take a napkin, dip it in paint and leave traces that are quite similar to stones, for example.

10. Plastic cling wrap - cling film

Did you know that film can also draw? It is enough to lay it on wet watercolor and move it. Ice crystals or other kind of abstraction are obtained.

If you make one large even “window” framed by wrinkles, then after the paint dries you will see, say, a lake, or a polynya. The photo even looks like a rose.

11. Blowing

Another method of drawing with a tube. And again you need to blow, but now as hard as possible, driving a drop of paint across the sheet. As a result, you will get intricate trees or just funny weirdos, or perhaps hair for a pre-drawn character.

If you want, you can let the paint flow on its own where it wants to. Just flip the sheet vertically, and then fantasize with the child, it's like that.

12. Light table - light table

Or a window, in other words. 🙂 This technique is not for kids, but mom will be able to create a gallery of children's portraits if desired. All relatives will be provided with gifts for the year ahead. In childhood, everyone, I think, "reduced" pictures, applying the original with a white sheet to the window. What if we take a photo? In photo editors, you need to ensure that 2 colors remain - black and white (posterize function).

Next, there are several options. You can paint over all the white places with wax crayon or a candle, and then go over with watercolors. It turns out interesting, but not very clean, because it’s quite difficult to track where the chalk went.

You can simply circle all the white spots with a pencil, and then carefully fill the rest with paint. It is not as long and not as difficult as it seems. Just a little patience and accuracy, and you have 3-4 portraits for a child's daytime sleep.

If you decide to put things on stream, then it is better to purchase a reserve liquid for watercolor paper in hobby markets. We apply it with a brush on white, go over it with watercolors on top, and then remove the reserve, like a film from a sheet. Fast, clean, original.

From the article you will learn how to paint flowers with gouache, create picturesque rural and mountain landscapes. At the end given helpful tips, which will help to facilitate the work and perform it as accurately as possible.

The content of the article:

It's nice to look at the paintings created by the artists. Many people like to admire the canvases, mentally transport themselves to where the plot takes place. But not everyone knows that if you wish, you can become a painter and create canvases for yourself, your family, and give them to friends. If you like this kind of creativity, it will be possible to transfer stories to canvas, then this activity can be profitable if you sell paintings. Therefore, let's draw, and perhaps this activity will captivate and enjoy it so much that it will become your favorite hobby and even a source of income.

How to draw flowers with gouache

This is one of the most effective types of paint. The paintings made in this technique look voluminous and look great. Sometimes a pencil sketch is made first, then the contours are painted over - first dark elements are made, then lighter ones.

If you need to draw a landscape in which the sky occupies most of it, then its background is written using the fill method, and then the details are drawn.

If you want to reproduce these poppies on canvas, start the drawing by creating a background. For work you will need:

  • gouache;
  • palette;
  • paper for watercolor or gouache;
  • brushes;
  • rag;
  • a jar of water.
By adding a little blue to green paint, you get emerald. You can mix colors by adhering to the following palette. The photo shows which paints to use to get the desired color.

So, before depicting flowers with gouache, starting from the upper right corner, retouch a sheet of paper with direct diagonal movements, not reaching the bottom. Here, paint it with light green paint.

Now mix green and yellow colors in the palette, draw a few light blades of grass in the foreground of the canvas. Add yellow highlights. Watch the video at the end of the article, which shows you step by step how to draw gouache flowers.

Now, in the palette cell, mix white paint with a small amount of emerald and add some light highlights on the canvas.

Now make a light pink paint, adding a little white to the red, and with a thin brush, apply highlights to the flowers.

For watercolor painting, you can use different brushes, each of them has its own number. The thicker the brush, the higher the number. Volumetric wide brushes are used to draw the background, thin ones are used to depict small details.

Next, you need to mix green and white paint to paint the buds and petals. Now draw the core of the poppy in black. Add some green to the white paint and paint highlights on the buds and stems.

Here's how to draw flowers in gouache to make them look as realistic as possible. With the help of this paint, picturesque paintings are also created.

How easy it is to draw a winter landscape with gouache

For beginners, such a drawing should not cause difficulties, since it is very easy to create.

For work, take:

  • a set of artistic gouache, consisting of 12 colors;
  • A 3 format sheet;
  • 2 flat boar bristle brushes No. 9 and 18;
  • palette;
  • a jar of water.
mix blue paint with some white. Retouch the background with horizontal movements using a wide brush.

A palette knife is used to apply thick paint to the canvas, as well as to mix and clean the palette. With it, the paint is applied with relief or even strokes.

This is the tool you will need to draw the mountains. If you do not have a palette knife, then replace it with a small dull knife. Can be adapted to most unusual items, for example, use a slightly sharpened ice cream stick, make a palette knife from an old business card holder.

Mix purple, blue and white paint. From right to left diagonally, apply several confident strokes on the canvas. The paint in this place should lie in a thick layer. Let it dry and apply over the white. Then continue to paint the landscape with gouache.

Now mix dark green and purple and with the resulting paint on the left side of the canvas, draw spruces. To do this, make horizontal strokes with a large flat brush, at the bottom they should be longer than at the top. Draw the tops of the trees.

Next, with the help of whitewash, make them snowy. Also draw white clouds in the background. On the right, you can depict another Christmas tree. At the bottom along the line of mountains, draw the outlines of the forest and create snowdrifts in the foreground with white paint. She will also help to draw them in the center of the landscape.

Here's how to paint with gouache so that you get such a picturesque canvas. If you like the theme of mountains, you can create some more landscapes by first doing a pencil sketch.

How to draw a landscape step by step

If you have never done this before, then you can enlarge the presented pencil drawing, attach a sheet of paper to it and simply redraw it.

Here we see all the necessary outlines:

  • clouds;
  • foreground vegetation;
  • bushes.
The easiest way to start painting a landscape with gouache is from the top of the sheet. Focusing on the contours of the pencil, color the sky blue.

Clouds draw with whitewash. Apply a few strokes of the same light paint so that white highlights appear in the sky.

You will need a brown tone for the mountains, make some green strokes here to paint the vegetation.

Using the same paint, depict a meadow. Dark green strokes will fall on the canvas in the form of bushes. The same paint will help draw the stems of plants, you will depict flowers with yellow.

How to draw nature in gouache

We will also start creating nature with a pencil sketch. To simplify the task, also attach a paper sheet to the screen and redraw. Now in green depict the forest in the center and left in the background. While this paint dries a little, apply blue to the sky and the flowing river.

Apply a light green tone to lower part forests. Now let's work with yellow paint. With this tone, gild the tops of the trees and the lower part of the forest on the left.

Cover some trees with dark green paint, as shown in the photo. When it dries, apply a yellow, light green tone to make the painted trees more realistic.

Paint the coastal stones dark purple, then apply gray and crimson tones here. Add small details to the trees, and the gouache painting, depicted in stages, is ready.

You can beautifully draw a landscape by watching the video. Step by step lesson help you create a different picture.

Rural landscape in gouache

Here is what you get as a result of the work. But first you need to work a little. Paint the sky with blue, white and burgundy paint. Mix it right on the sheet by adding water.

While this part of the drawing dries, wash the brush. She needs to draw the trees located in the background and the ground. Draw a tree trunk with dark brown paint, and twigs with a thin brush.

But what is a rural landscape without rural houses? Draw them in the background using orange, black and brown.

You will create the foliage with the following interesting method. Take a brush with round bristles, dip it in yellow, burgundy, green colors and, tapping on the paper, draw the foliage.

Draw the flowers in the same way, but with the help of paint of red, yellow, pink colors.

You've got a colorful rustic landscape that will decorate the wall in the room or will be the right gift. You have learned how to paint with gouache. In conclusion, check out some useful tips to help you do it correctly and accurately.

When using gouache, follow these tips:
  • Gouache is sold in tubes and small jars. Get it in the package that you like best.
  • It is not necessary to buy many flowers at once. The main thing is to purchase the necessary ones: white, blue, black, yellow, red, brown. Some others you can create by mixing these paints.
  • Before applying colors to the canvas, even if you don't mix gouache, apply it to the palette first. So you will not be mistaken in color and you can make paints of the desired density by adding required amount water.
  • If gouache cracks, add a little gum arabic to it and stir well.
  • Before applying additional layers of paint on top of the first or lower ones, wait until they dry.
  • Since gouache is water-based, when you're done, the paint will dry, then varnish it. It is better to work each color separately, rinsing the brush well, which will absorb the paint.

IN Ancient Egypt painted with a sharpened stick with a piece of camel hair at the end with paints from crushed earth. This was the first watercolor technique, which is already about four thousand years old. Since then watercolor painting firmly established in Europe.

The word "watercolor" itself has the Latin root "aqua" - water. That's why main principle watercolor painting techniques - this is the degree of wetting of the paper. It is water that gives the transparency of paints, the purity of color and allows you to see the texture of the paper.

For the artist, there is a choice of existing watercolor painting techniques:

  • dry watercolor (Italian watercolor);
  • wet watercolor (English watercolor);
  • combined (mixed) technique;
  • watercolor on partially moistened paper.

Dry watercolor (Italian watercolor)

Acquarello - this word sounds musical to the ear. Layers of paint are applied (one, if it is a single-layer watercolor) or several (if it is glazing) on a dry sheet of paper.

"Watercolor is the gentle promise of oil," and this technique is a direct confirmation of this.

The tone of the paint is thicker, the colors are brighter, the strokes are visible as if the drawing was painted in oil. The main difficulty is that if the oil endures everything, the work can be corrected, then it is practically impossible to make mistakes in watercolor. The Italians even have the term “A la Prima”, that is, “in one go”. The picture is painted without stages. With pure, undiluted colors, one must boldly grasp the essence, make a sketch from nature.

Steps of the artist in the technique of watercolor in a dry way:

  1. drawing contour drawing, development of shadows;
  2. watercolor in one layer, or glazing;
  3. smears are opaque, mosaic, accurate;
  4. avoid dirty influxes, high speed of work.

From whom to learn the Italian manner: Russian Academic painting XIX century. For example, "Italian Landscape" by A.A. Ivanov, is stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

Wet watercolor (English watercolor)

The French call this technique "working on water" (travailler dans l'eau, fr.)

A sheet of paper is abundantly wetted with water. In this technique main feature- unpredictability of the result. Even if the artist has correctly calculated the tone and color, the drawing, before it dries completely, may change more than once before taking on the final form. The contours of objects in this technique are vague, the lines smoothly flow into each other and are airy. A picture made in this technique is thought out and imagined by the viewer.

In his book How to Understand Watercolor, writer Tom Hoffmann said: “Watercolor painting is a dialogue between the artist and the viewer, each with their own role. If only one talks, the other will get bored.”

Wet watercolor artist steps:

  1. adding water to paints;
  2. mixing paint, no matter where, on the palette or on the sheet;
  3. wet the sheet abundantly, then smooth it so that there are no irregularities;
  4. remove excess water from the sheet with a piece of cotton wool so that it stops shining;
  5. perform the drawing, making extremely precise strokes;
  6. drying the picture from 2 hours;
  7. elaboration of foreground elements (if required).

From whom to learn the English manner: from the brilliant English painter William Turner. According to contemporaries, he created four drawings at once in this technique "with amazing, monstrous speed."

From Russian artists an example is Maximilian Messmacher's drawing "View of Cologne Cathedral".

Mixed media watercolor

Many artists combine several drawing techniques in one work.

Methods of combined (mixed) technique:

  1. put the first coat of paint on a wet sheet;
  2. elaboration of plans, creation of the required degree of blurring;
  3. drying the drawing;
  4. lay out the next layers of paint in stages;
  5. elaboration of medium and near plans.

Basic rule of technology: paper is wetted not all, but in the right area (reserve); the pigment is applied to the surface from top to bottom.

The paper may be wetted in fragments. The artist himself decides which plan to work out by creating watercolor stains. With the help of a sponge, excess water must be removed so that water does not seep into those areas that should remain dry according to the artist's intention. Examples of combined technique in the work of the artist Konstantin Kuzema.

The next question for the artist is the creation of colorful layers. There are single-layer and multi-layer techniques (glazing).

Single layer watercolor technique

To paraphrase the famous satirist, one careless movement, and in best case get graphics instead of watercolor. The paint is applied in one layer, adjustments cannot be made. The single coat technique can be applied dry-on-dry and wet-on-dry.

Features of a single-layer watercolor "dry on dry":

  • performance literally in one or two touches;
  • it is necessary to outline the contours of the drawing in advance;
  • choose the colors to use, for the speed of work;
  • for colorization, apply shades only on a wet layer;
  • more clarity and graphics, less overflow.

Features of watercolor in one layer "wet on dry":

  • more overflows, less graphics and clarity;
  • apply strokes quickly, until dry, one by one;
  • for colorization, have time to add paint when the smear is not yet dry.

A plus in a single-layer technique is the creation of picturesque watercolor overflows. On a dry sheet, it is easier to control the fluidity and outlines of strokes. contemporary artists often hold master classes and post videos on Youtube. The technique of single-layer watercolor can be seen, for example, at the watercolorist Igor Yurchenko.

Those who tirelessly improve the technique of watercolor should master multilayer technique(glazing), in which famous masters work.

Multilayer watercolor technique (glazing)

This watercolor technique can give the green light to realist paintings. Glaze- multi-layer technique, applying watercolor with transparent strokes from lighter to darker, one layer on top of the other.

Features of the multilayer watercolor technique:

  • realism of the image: a picture in bright, saturated colors;
  • the bottom layer of light and transparent strokes should have time to dry before the next application;
  • borders of smears are visible;
  • paint does not mix in different layers;
  • strokes are done carefully, plans are airy, painting in a soft style;
  • you can divide the process into several sessions, perform a large canvas.

Glazed watercolor works look like oil or gouache painting. In order for the work not to have such a drawback, one must be able to work with light, apply glazing thinly and accurately.

Sergey Andriyaka is considered an unsurpassed master of multi-layered watercolors. In addition to creativity, the artist is actively involved in teaching, his work and his students are constantly exhibited.

“Oil painting is like driving a limousine, and watercolor is like driving a Ferrari. Not that respectability and safety, but it's really cool," Croatian watercolorist Josef Zbukvic wittily remarked. What is required to write good watercolor, or “to drive a Ferrari with a breeze, according to the artist? He answers: "Follow the watercolor, or just paint."

To draw, you need brushes, paints, knowledge of technique and special effects. You can draw with a dry (wrung out), semi-dry and wet brush (core or squirrel).

Techniques in multilayer technique are also diverse:

  1. smears you need to do it according to the principle “the work of the master is afraid”, invent your own technique, making dotted, linear, blurry, figured, continuous and intermittent strokes.
  2. fill covers most of the picture with one color, used to ensure smooth color transitions.
  3. laundering- applying no more than three layers of paint, one on top of the other after drying to enhance halftones, prescribing details and shadows. In this way the overall tone is achieved.
  4. gradient stretch- strokes smoothly pass into each other, each next lighter than the previous one. This is done with the iridescent transition of colors.
  5. Paint pull- a clean dry brush makes the tone of the stroke lighter, passes over the paper, collecting excess pigment.
  6. Reservation- that part of the sheet that is left white.

Reservation types:

  • « detour"- the name speaks for itself, you need to carefully bypass the right places with a brush. In wet watercolors, you must leave on reserve more space due to paint leaks.
  • mechanical impact: scratching, masking. Avoid damaging the paper with sharp objects and sharp contrasts. Additional materials: razor, wax crayons, etc.
  • paint washout dry cloth or wrung out brush. It is possible to use a palette knife if the paint is dry.

You can create watercolors in the technique of grisaille (monochrome), dichrome (with ocher) and multi-color drawings.

You can also combine coloring materials and create special effects:

  • Mixing watercolor with white, gouache, watercolor pencils, ink, pastel. This is no longer a pure technique, but a mixed one. What does it give? - clarity (pencils), shading (pastel), wash (ink), book illustrations(pen), reserve (whitewash), linear strokes (watercolor pencils).
  • Special effect " drawing on crumpled paper» gives an amazing effect of chiaroscuro on the folds of paper.
  • Special effect with salt: salt crystals are applied to the drawing, fantastic stains appear as a result of friction with paper. Suitable for drawing a starry sky or water meadow.
  • Special effect " splashing"- this effect is familiar to all 1-2-year-old little ones. It turns out that the technique of splashing exists in painting, and they will not be scolded for it. Using a toothbrush, tiny drops of paint are applied. Suitable for writing the elements, storms, storms.
  • Watercolor with tea: For an aged effect on parchment-like paper. The sheet is tinted with tea leaves.
  • Special effect with cling film: the film soaked with paint abruptly separates from a sheet of paper. The resulting stains are used as a background.

And again about the principle “the work of the master is afraid”: each artist can create his own, author's techniques and techniques. Sharing or not with others is his business, but each artist is responsible for the originality of his work. As the aforementioned watercolorist Joseph Zbukvic said: “Watercolor is the boss. I'm just her young helper."

Watercolor is an excellent medium for painting, suitable for beginners. Paints are inexpensive, and you can buy them and related materials in almost every stationery store. Therefore, many are familiar with watercolor since childhood: it is she who draws in art lessons.

If you want to learn how to draw beautifully, you need to choose the right tools. First, pay attention to the brushes. Use natural bristles (such as kolinsky or squirrel) of different diameters and shapes.

Second, get special paper for watercolor. In terms of density, it resembles cardboard, but differs from the latter in texture, which allows the paint to “cling” to the base. Thirdly, stock up on consumables: a plastic / glass palette, pieces of cloth, a water container, paper tape, pencils for sketching. To create unusual effects, prepare toothbrush, porous sponge, white gouache.

Non-absorbent materials should be used as a palette: glass, plastic, ceramics. Also useful special tablet. A sheet of paper soaked in water under a tap should be fixed on it.

When working with watercolors, artists recommend being very careful. This material practically does not allow you to make adjustments and correct a damaged drawing. So follow simple rule: Work on the light areas first, then the dark areas.

Also, you must be sure of the chosen color. Therefore, it will be correct to try the shade created on the palette on a spare sheet. If everything suits you, feel free to draw the selected part.

Be sure to watch the sharpness of the brushes. Only with the help of a thin tip you can perfectly draw a person's face, his emotions, nails and other small parts. Never wash your brushes with chemicals/soap. For better cleaning, use vegetable oil.

Basic watercolor techniques

Painting with watercolors is a real pleasure. These paints allow you to create both a transparent delicate pattern in pastel colors, and bright saturated work. It all depends on your requirements and desires.

It will facilitate the work with watercolor knowledge of the basic techniques. For example, using a flat brush, you can create a wide straight line or, if you place the tool on an edge, clear sharp strokes. The latter can be used when drawing architectural details, plant elements (grass, flowers, etc.).

To paint the sky, the sea, or an abstract background with iridescence, apply the classic watercolor technique. Wet the selected area strongly, remove the “puddles” with a cloth / sponge. Apply the selected colors with a wide brush so that their edges are in contact and the paints mix on their own.

To get beautiful background splashes, use a toothbrush. Soak her in warm water, dip in your chosen shade. Shake the ink vigorously onto the paper. Repeat the steps until you get the desired result.

Spectacular lines are obtained if you use the "free brush" technique. Take the tool like a knife, towards the end of the base. Move the brush over the paper, turning it in the desired direction. The lines are very realistic. When painting with sombre colors, you will create chic "bare" trees, suitable for an autumn/winter landscape or a painting with a graveyard atmosphere.

Recently, more and more special paints and pencils have appeared so that it is convenient for children to embody on paper fantastic images. But for beginners, acquaintance with the fine arts is most successful in the process of painting with watercolors. Consider step by step some of the nuances of this process.

Unity of water and color

Watercolor appeared in Europe in the 15th century, while in China an aqueous suspension of coloring pigment was used in painting as early as the 2nd century. Even then, artists valued paint for its ability to create stunningly subtle color transitions on canvas or paper. It is this property of watercolor that has made it so popular not only in professional but also in amateur art. fine arts. Drawing with watercolors is recommended to practice even for very young creators. For children 2-5 years and older, this paint is ideal because:

  • does not require special skills to get started - you only need to prepare water, brushes and paint;
  • mixes well and allows you to achieve a wide palette of colors;
  • it is easily washed off the body and washed off clothes, which is especially important in the case of babies;
  • affordable, because usually young artists material is used very sparingly.

Paint types and watercolor techniques

Before taking on a drawing, you need to decide on the idea and choose a watercolor. There are 5 types of paints:

  • tiled solid;
  • semi-solid;
  • liquid;
  • pencils, crayons;
  • mother-of-pearl watercolor.

The first type is suitable for posters and drawings, but not suitable for children's creativity. But other types can be used depending on which texture is easier for a person to cope with. Moreover, the combination liquid form and pencils or crayons brings in finished work the originality of the combination of painting and drawing.

After choosing colors, you need to decide on the technique of execution:

  • on a dry sheet (the picture is bright, with clear contour lines);
  • on a damp canvas (makes all transitions blurry, revealing the richness of shades).

In the latter case, you can use either special paper for watercolor, or put a damp cloth under the sheet - flannel.

What do you need to work with this type of paint?

To make working with paints a pleasure, you need to prepare everything you need for work in advance. In addition to watercolors and paper, which were mentioned above, you will need:

  • shallow container with wide sides for mixing paints;
  • paint brushes from 0000 to 6 in mixed fibers (for beginners, it is most convenient to mix paints with a brush number 3);
  • a glass of water to graduate washes;
  • paper towels to remove excess water or paint;
  • hard and hard-soft simple pencils to outline the outline of the drawing.

Be prepared that over time, a slightly slanted drawing board may come in handy, as well as masking fluid for areas of the picture that should not have paint.
How to draw flowers?

Acquaintance with watercolor painting for beginners should take place in stages. And flowers with semi-solid paint on a dry sheet in this case are a very convenient object for the image. It allows you to demonstrate all the richness of color shades, but does not contain too small elements that will be quite difficult for a beginner to handle. And, since watercolor painting involves drawing from nature, it is advisable to put a vase or a single flower in front of your eyes. It is better to choose tulips, irises, pansies, that is, quite large representatives of the flora.

Instruction:

  1. We put the nature so that the light is concentrated on it. It is better if it is daytime, not artificial.
  2. We make a sketch of the contours with a simple pencil.
  3. Show shadow areas.
  4. We draw the back petals with paints.
  5. We make a shadow. To do this, we use two shades of the main color - dark and light.
  6. We proceed to the center of the composition, alternating with leaves and stem.
  7. Tint the background with a translucent shade.

Pictures of the landscape are most effectively obtained in liquid paints, as they allow you to convey all the details of the color. For landscapes, it is better to use the technique of painting with watercolor on a wet sheet. However, for beginners, this image method can be slightly simplified by gradually wetting the desired areas of paper.

Instruction:

  1. We make a sketch. On objects with a shadow, we make the pressure a little stronger.
  2. We moisten a section of paper under the sky, apply paint and let it spread.
  3. For the bulk of the foliage, we also slightly soak the paper with water and, mixing desired colors, apply paint so that white areas of paper remain.
  4. We draw large details of the image (mountains, cliffs, etc.).
  5. We proceed to the foreground of the picture. We draw grass, adding tones from dark to light.
  6. Add shadows. Note that the farther from the foreground, the deeper, that is, darker, the shadow.
  7. We draw a tree trunk and branches.
  8. Refine the contours of the foreground objects.
  9. Remove paint stains, if any. To do this, we press a paper napkin to the drawing area, then we drip water and get wet again. Repeat until the stain disappears.
  10. If necessary, add details. The drawing is ready.
