How to create a sought-after creative space: says the owner of the Flacon design factory. Creative cluster c52

In recent decades, the concept of “creativity” has become often used both in scientific and everyday speech. People may come across this term frequently, but that doesn't mean they have a clear understanding of its meaning. Creativity (creativity) is a symbiosis of thinking and creation, action when creative ideas accept real shape, are converted into objects. Cunningham S. D. and Higgs P. l. (2014) take the view that creativity is the process of creating something new. Creativity requires passion and commitment. Goetz I. and T. Lubart (2008) argue that creativity is what makes a product simultaneously innovative, relevant, original, but unpredictable.

Speaking directly about creative spaces, it is necessary to introduce a clear definition that characterizes this phenomenon. “The creative space is created with the aim of attracting the creative community to implement all kinds of art ideas in a certain territory. There is no business as such in these projects, however, without generating serious income, creative industries allow us to “warm up” interest in the territories and increase their capitalization.” In a narrow sense, a creative space is a place where “creators” generate new ideas. The definition of a creative space is also perfectly suited to what A. Zhelnina cites in her article “Creativity “for our own”: social exclusion and creative spaces of St. Petersburg”, namely the following: “By creative spaces we understand the places of localization of new forms of cultural production and production of new ideas. Creative spaces in old industrial cities are often occupied by areas freed from traditional production - factories and factories.”

In addition to this, Banks M., O'Connor J. (2009) believe that creative space is an option for temporary use of real estate. Despite the fact that these projects cannot boast of a strong business structure and high income, they attract interest of people and infrastructures in specific territories, which leads to an increase in their future value. The owner of a creative space can rent out space for various events of other organizations. Based on the above, Throsby D. (2007) states: “creative space is a marketing tool, which brings attention to the redevelopment project. It is a product of economic development."

By carefully looking at a certain social group, its desires and interests, you can understand whether it contains elements of a creative cluster, i.e. the presence of a creative streak, enthusiasm to develop in this direction and attract other people. Evans S. (2006) defines a creative cluster as a community of creatively oriented entrepreneurs who interact in a certain territory. Such places are intended not only for work, but also for living, communicating and generating ideas. Moreover, Hesmondhalgh D. (2002) believes that the goal of the internal ideology of creative space projects is to unite like-minded people, people with similar views and tastes. A community of creatively thinking people united within a commercial structure, for example, in the field of design, architecture, high technology, in turn represents the creative industry. And some representatives creative professions- programmers, artists and writers - make up the creative class.

Simmel G. believes that the development of the creative industry should be carried out individuals or business representatives, but not an administrative resource. A “creative” attitude cannot be imposed, it can only be discovered and developed. However, the business of creative industries is very risky, because it happens that the managers of the creative space do not have enough funds to develop their project effectively enough. Therefore, turnover among managers of creative spaces is very high. If a manager does not feel competent in this area of activity, then he may soon look for another more profitable project.

Creative industries are highly innovative in creating jobs and using intellectual property. Moreover, the activities of such organizations contribute to the rapid transformation of depressed areas into attractive urban spaces. In the book Creative Space, Lloyd P. (2009) writes about the contribution of a creative space to the social and economic spheres and defines it as “a well-designed environment that encourages people to create something new, to be sociable and full of inspiration.”

Coworking, a cluster for artisans, an alternative platform for aspiring artists and other creative spaces in Rostov-on-Don, formed on the site of former factories, factories and ancient mansions of the city. Chose the most interesting places and talked with their founders about how and for whom they were created.

"Place"

"Place"

Where is: workshops of the former tobacco factory, Krasnoarmeyskaya street, 170

When opened: summer 2013

Services: rental of workstations, isolated work modules and meeting rooms; hosting an event

We wanted to create a place for people who share our values, but who do not have a single “offline place.” The kind of environment where you would like to come and work. We looked at different objects, but then limited ourselves to “Tabachka” - and settled on this part of the factory.

The approach to the interior was dictated by the room itself (although, of course, we had examples for inspiration). A harsh loft design does not imply left-right branches: brick, metal, concrete, good furniture, bright interior details. If everything is observed, it is quite difficult to spoil it.

We did everything ourselves, sometimes involving designers. It seems to us that no mistakes were made - at least those that would have hampered the development of the project. As a result, a holistic solution with many diverse zones emerged. And every time, not without warm feelings, we notice references to “Place” in new public spaces of the city.

Our interior itself filters those who come to us. The people who feel comfortable being here are the ones most likely to add something to the atmosphere and community. Others simply won't work here.

"Clock face"

"Clock face"

Where is: mansion of the early 20th century, Sokolov Avenue, 46

When opened: year 2012

Services: organization cultural events, coworking, space rental

“Tsiferblat” is located in a building built in 1905. When we opened a free space in Rostov, there was a feeling that someone was leading us by the hand - so we can say that it was not we who found the room, but it found us. Rostov “Tsiferblat” is the largest of all that have been opened in Russia: it has its own courtyard For summer festivals and two floors with rooms of different formats where lectures, master classes, and concerts can be held.

The interior is the soul of Ziferblat. This is what creates the atmosphere here. Our style is retro: cozy, homely. It’s even a little antique, “museum-like.” Each chair, armchair, sofa and any other detail that you see in the “Dial” has its own interesting story. This feature makes our place alive and animated.

Creative cluster c52

Creative cluster c52

Where is: former production workshop, Suvorova street, 52a

When opened: 2011

Services: rental of premises for small businesses, holding events

The project started in 2011 and was conceived as a center for collaboration of companies from different areas business in coworking format. Later concept The project shifted towards a cultural and business youth center, and in 2017 the project grew to several buildings, which united into cluster c52.

The building was found by my former partner, who started the project. They only dictated appearance public areas - white brick, fashionable at that time, decorated with OSB and wood. Plus a lot of natural light from the façade stained glass windows. The tenants made their own offices according to their own design (this also became a rule of the center), so each office is unique. Over time, general functional solutions emerged, for example, for glazing office facades: they gave the space a unified look.

The huge atrium in the main building and the “prison” galleries that frame it give the center a unique look. We approach all interior solutions very carefully. I personally control all stylistic decisions.

Since 2015, the yard began to develop more actively: there was also a general decision on it, which we are trying to adhere to. We work on an ongoing basis with the architect Andrei Herzen - it is he who creates projects for new spaces inside the main building or entrance area, the implementation of which we will soon begin.

"Factory"

"Factory"

Where is: workshop of the former plant of universal prefabricated devices, line 16, 61

Services: rental of workshops, tools and equipment for small-scale production; carpentry and metalworking

They came up with “Factory” in 2015 with Alexander Kuleshov - when they noticed that small production workers began to appear in “Creative”, which they were then engaged in - woodworkers, leather craftsmen, and so on. At some point, their activities began to cause inconvenience to other tenants. Then we decided to create another creative space specifically for manufacturing entrepreneurs, where everyone could saw, drill, etc. without harming others. In addition, we wanted everyone who wants to learn how to work with their hands to be able to do so in this place.

The entire space of the “Factory” was formed through large-scale architectural and design solutions. Initially, it was a rectangular workshop with very high ceilings (more than 5 meters). With the help of the architect, we implemented a mezzanine with a podium, which became the central part of the interior. Moreover, due to the creation of a new level, about 150 were added square meters. If we talk about design solutions, we tried to keep the aesthetics of the Soviet workshop, incorporating load-bearing metal structures, glass blocks and bricks into the interior. We used pastel colors and the natural color of wood, from which almost all new structures are made. The workshop in which the “Factory” is located adjoins the former stables of the Paramonov merchants, so we have a whole wall of 19th-century brick - it was cleaned with special care and incorporated into the interior. We tried to make a neat mix of pre-revolutionary aesthetics and the spirit of Soviet production workshops.

Interior design in conjunction with architectural and constructive solutions in our case has become fundamental. It was thanks to the design that it was possible to create the atmosphere of an educational and industrial site.

The idea of creating an art center was born after in 2012, on the initiative of the then existing gallery 16th LINE, we held a festival in the Makaronki building street art"Pasta Factory" Then it became clear that this space could act as an alternative platform for supporting emerging artists in Rostov and beyond. In general, of course, the idea was absolutely in line with the development trend of European urban space at that time: a whole wave of cultural centers appeared in Moscow, located in former industrial premises. For example, “Garage” (I mean the old building), “Winzavod”, “Flacon”. We wanted Makaronka to become an interdisciplinary art center. They wanted to unite different types art. Therefore, in addition to the exhibition hall and workshops for artists, a theater of modern drama “18+” appeared here.

The main concept was to create an open space where viewers would feel like they were speaking the same language, where they could not just be observers, but enter into dialogue with what they see. Accordingly, the design of the space had to be as simple as possible, devoid of heavy elements that can often be seen in academic theaters or state museums. That's why we chose a loft.

In the main hall and in the foyer there are open spaces: some of the employees even work not in a separate office, but right in the main space, where visitors of the art center have access. The theater hall is intimate, with 75 seats, the audience is in close proximity to the stage. The materials used were wood, metal and brick.

Over the four years of operation, the site has undergone renovations several times, updated, new halls opened, but we still adhere to the initially stated concept. Design for our art center is very important: it is a continuation and visual embodiment of the idea that we follow when creating any project. First of all, we are about modernity, relevance, a progressive view of things, openness, dialogue and, of course, experiment. We hope that when coming to us, the audience feels this too.

The modernization of industrial centers and their transformation into original art spaces is experiencing a real boom. Industrial premises of old factories and factories are receiving new life thanks to the creative ideas of artists and designers. Rooftop cinemas, lecture halls, handmade stores, affordable cafes - a list of the most fascinating art clusters in Moscow in our material

"Bottle"

One of the most popular clusters is located on the territory of the former glass factory, built at the end of the 19th century by Frederic Dutfoy. Trade and exhibition complex with a total area of more than 20 thousand square meters. meters with many shops, boutiques and workshops was opened in 2009 and instantly became a real art haven for a creatively focused audience.

Exhibitions, presentations and festivals are held here. The funny name - "Bottle" - is preserved in honor of the industrial branch of the former design plant, which produced containers for perfumes for more than a century.

Cultural center ZIL

The first and largest Palace of Culture in Moscow is a real monument to constructivism from the era of communism under construction. The project of the Vesnin brothers was not implemented in the “brightest” place - on the site of a necropolis destroyed in the 1930s (where the Muravyovs, Naryshkins, Shakhovskys, etc. were buried).

The former Palace of Culture of the Proletarsky District of Moscow is considered the city's flagship project for the modernization of club buildings. Many original architectural elements The cultural centers were recreated during the reconstruction in 2008. Work at ZIL is carried out in five main areas: dance studios, library, performing arts, creative development and lecture hall.

The evolution of the industrial district of Syromyatniki, where the buildings of the former manufactory are located, is very intense: a line was laid along some of the buildings of the legendary estate railway, A main house equipped for a 4-grade school. TO end of the 19th century century, there were as many as seven industrial buildings here, which later became part of the complex of the Moscow Bavaria wine factory.

Author of the modernization project exhibition center Alexander Brodsky set the task of preserving the color and appearance of the former “slum factory”. Today, the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art hosts fashionable exhibitions, theatrical performances and festivals.

Artplay

This art center became one of the first clusters in Moscow. The stylized shopping and office complex is also known as “Artplay on Yauza”. The site adjacent to Winzavod has turned into a lively “get-together” of artists, photographers, sculptors, lighting engineers, engineers, decorators and other creatives from technology and art. Many are confident that the Artplay and Winzavod clusters will one day merge and a real city quarter of craftsmen will emerge here, uniting all aspects of contemporary art.

The site equipped at the Manometer plant is located in a 9-story building, designed in the concept of “office work, everyday life and leisure.” There are cafes, shops, and co-working spaces. In winter you can go ice skating on the roof of Artplay, in summer you can listen to live singing famous performers. At one time, the creator of the famous cube, Erno Rubik, visited the art site. "Danilovskaya manufactory"

Former factory them. Frunze dates back to 1867: it was then that the merchant of the first Moscow guild, Meshcherin, decided to finance the construction of a weaving factory for the production of calico and scarves with a full production cycle. The site chosen for the manufactory was the area near the Danilovsky Monastery - hence the name.

About 70 years passed from the moment of nationalization to the return of the name “Danilovskaya Manufactory” to the enterprise. Today, the business center attracts the attention of not only historians, but also fashion lovers: in the main building made of noble red brick, designed in the style of a classic New York loft, with attics and a stove-stove in the reception area, various creative events and exhibitions are held. “Danilovskaya Manufactory” is also known as a housing and office complex, many of its new buildings are adapted to the original architectural style.

"Garage"

Previously, the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art was located on Obraztsova Street - in the premises of the famous Bakhmetyevsky garage, built according to the design of Melnikov-Shukhov in 1927 for English Leyland buses. Several years ago, the museum was moved to Gorky Park - into a temporary pavilion designed by the famous architect Shigeru Ban. The uniqueness of the design was that the oval room with an area of 2,400 sq. meters with a dome was built exclusively from eco-materials, such as paper pipes.

Since 2015, Garage has been located in a new location - the restored building of the former Vremena Goda restaurant. The uniqueness of the housewarming is not only in the historical aspect (the restaurant building was built in the late 20s of the last century). The author of the new Garage project is the legend of world modern architecture Rem Koolhaas, who is known for such works as the Guggenheim-Hermitage Museum in Las Vegas and central Library Seattle.

The idea of "Garage" is globally cultural. Exhibitions, lectures, art festivals, presentations and demonstrations are held here, the task of which is to tell the visitor about the limitless scope and directions of contemporary Russian art.
