If I had read this message myself, as a student, probably, firstly, I would have stopped rushing around (which university is the best?), and secondly, I would have sighed sadly (nothing new, diligence and work will grind everything down)But first things first:)

I do not recommend this university, and I do not consider it the worst place to learn drawing.Throughout the entire time I studied there, I always wanted to leave and go somewhere else. It seemed to me that we were being taught poorly, although I myself systematically and mercilessly skipped part of the classes :) We were not taught what we needed modern artist, and I think, to the modern educator too. All knowledge was outdated. And even relatively new disciplines ( computer graphics), however, were absolutely not useful. Photoshop would be much more useful. But we were taught, it seems, the Paint program.

But nevertheless, if desired, there will always be at least one teacher who will inspire by his example. And even one person can set it in the right way. For me, this person was my drawing teacher - Boris Vasilievich Lushnikov. B.V. He always spoke quietly, tediously and for a long time. He no longer praised the drawings, but some of my finds and my diligence. In general, at first he seemed more of a funny person to me.

But one day he ticked one of my sketches and told me why he liked it. Then he began to mark portraits and eventually noticed something “like that” about me. It just inspired me! To be honest, the other teachers didn’t make much of an impression on me, but I showed Boris Vasilich my works (and paintings too) all the time. She just brought folders and we discussed them for a long time in the corridor. I continued to visit him even after graduating from university.

After finishing the art course, my folder contained a bunch of portraits of our models (a rower, a swimmer, a guy Philip and many other strange characters). I only learned the word “portfolio” when I set out to get a job as an artist in a publishing house. And I immediately realized that I didn’t have any “portfolio”. They looked at my works without obvious pleasure and returned them with the words - go and study some more. And I was depressed.
I tried to submit my work to the vernissage on Krymsky Val and was told that this was amateurism. Just for fun, this was the work.
Frankly speaking, there was no such job - “artist”. Therefore, I got a job in a related profession, as it seemed to me. Interior designer. Then I tried printing. I drew for websites, packaging, postcards... At the same time I studied Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD, Archicad and a bunch of other programs that no one needed for a long time)

And I also regularly felt: yes, I know what a shadow-penumbra-reflex is; I know how the colors are arranged on color wheel; I know what glazing is and I love it when the canvas rings under the elastic brush of bristles. But all this knowledge was somewhere in parallel with what needed to be done in reality. And I really didn't like it. I came home from work and realized that I no longer had the strength to be creative. This was the most difficult period.

What am I talking about? Moreover, often, if not always, you will have to learn on your own. Yes, you can gain useful knowledge at an art university. You will hone your skills and get used to drawing “realistically” without mistakes. Personally, without these 5 years it would be extremely difficult for me. I believe that classical school needed. And in principle, it probably doesn’t matter where you get this basic knowledge. But they must be.

For me, I remember, something just switched. And it’s funny that one of the guys in our hostel (who graduated from the Mari art school, traditionally strong) he told me exactly that. "You draw, and then something will switch. You will notice."

And suddenly I realized that now I see. I see errors of perspective, I see that something is wrong. I stopped looking at someone’s work and thinking that it’s good because “it’s so beautiful here.” blue sky". That I see it entirely. And even if you copy 100% of the same sky into your work, it won’t shoot the same way. I didn’t have to ask the teacher: “Please look, how’s it going?” (in the hope of getting approval)
In general, I suddenly realized that the thinking and observation process should take a very large dose of time. Hundreds of sharpened pencils, a tuned eye and damaged sheets and I allowed myself to rise to a higher level. I realized that there are things that are good. That I'm not embarrassed to show them anymore. And this happened about 5 years after graduating from Moscow State Pedagogical University. By the way, it was at this time that someone began to consider me “arrogant” and immodest. For some reason, it is believed that a decent artist should not know his own worth. He must be modest and poor. But that's okay, I digress :)

Thus, even after studying at a university, you will have to study again. But this is a different way. Very interesting and educational. And here only your observation, patience, and courage will help you.
