How to organize bands to perform at concerts? Concert organizing business How to open a concert agency.

It's no secret that there is always competition in the world of music. But despite this, people still appear who are interested in organizing concerts and music festivals. And if you also sometimes wondered how to organize a concert, then it will not be superfluous for you to familiarize yourself with a simple scheme for organizing concerts for beginners.

To get started you will need:

  • Any budget
  • Knowledge of local groups or contacts through which you can invite stars
  • Friends willing to offer help
  • Sociability, nothing without it
  • A designer who will be involved in artistic design issues
  • Computer with Internet access

Instructions for organizing a concert

  • Before organizing a concert, you need to do a little analysis of music venues and teams. To do this, you will need a computer with Internet access, thanks to which you can go to specialized sites, where you will learn a lot of information about groups and can even find contacts to communicate with them.
  • It is necessary to carefully consider the genre of the concert itself, and which venues for it will be more relevant, because organizing concerts of stars has a completely different focus.
  • Decide on the groups that will directly perform at your event. Prepare a list of teams that are most interested and write them a letter of offer asking them to perform at your concert.
  • Next, when you already have a list of groups and some performance venues, you need to decide on the date of the concert. Weekends are considered the most best time for absolutely any concert.
  • Promotional materials are simply indispensable for organizing any concert. These include flyers, posters, posters, etc. And the designer will help you develop them, because who can know better how to make a concert poster. You should make sure that you give the designer accurate information about the teams, dates, name and location of your event.
  • The bands that will be participating in the concert can also help you. It is enough just to give them a certain number of tickets for resale, and of course offer them a percentage for the tickets sold. This will help to attract as many large quantity people to the event.
  • Events should be promoted as actively as possible using posters and a variety of leaflets. They can be distributed to musicians, who in turn will distribute them to their friends and fans. Also, do not forget to hang a poster at the venue of the concert itself.

Important points in organizing concerts

Safety is probably the most important thing important point regarding the organization of concerts. That is why all the organizers’ thoughts on how to properly organize a concert should first of all be aimed at organizing all the necessary security measures for this event. And all because conducting any kind of mass events carries a certain hidden threat, because at the concert it is very a large number of equipment, which makes us think at least about fire protection.

In addition, even the decorations are dangerous, because if their fastenings are not of high quality, they can collapse at any moment, which can subsequently harm the guests themselves. Often, in staging their concerts, organizers use fire and light shows, which require greater caution and compliance with special safety rules.

Organization of a group concert

If you are thinking about how to organize a band concert, then you should know two main points that concert visitors do not know, but you, as the organizer, must know.

  • The first is the fee, namely, how much it will cost you to perform this or that group on stage.
  • The second is the rider, or in simple words technical and living conditions. Usually it depends on the popularity of the group.

Classification of performing groups

  • Widely popular in wide circles. Groups of this kind fill stadiums, their fees are very high, the conditions of the rider are almost impossible to fulfill, but they will undoubtedly collect full hall, from babies to pensioners.
  • Widely popular in narrow circles. These are mostly successful bands that work in any style other than POP. Their fees are usually quite reasonable, and riders include several items.
  • Narrow popularity in wide circles. They have less success than the groups from the first point, but their fees are higher than those of the groups from the second point, and the riders are listed on several sheets.
  • Narrow popularity in narrow circles. Almost no one knows about them, although they may have two released albums and one video clip, which was shown a couple of times on music channels.

And if you are thinking about how to organize a concert with the participation of groups, then first you should use the services of groups that are widely popular in narrow circles. And if the event is similar to a fest or session, then groups that have a narrow popularity in narrow circles will be suitable.

Of course, to ensure that your event does not consist of mistakes and shortcomings, it is better to turn to trusted organizers - professionals in their field. The cost of organizing a concert may not reach the $1,000 mark, or may exceed a million, so before starting work on organizing the holiday, you will need to decide from the very beginning the amount of money you are willing to spend.

For many people, organizing concerts seems to be a very easy task - the “stars” arrived, played, received money, the owner of the premises received part, the performer(s) received part, the rest went to the organizer. All. However, the latter’s work involves solving a large number of problems, and this is not only finding a venue, but also providing the concert with everything necessary - from lighting equipment to a hotel for musicians. The organizer assumes responsibility for ensuring that the event not only takes place, but will also be properly organized and include everything necessary. At its core, an organizer is a person who has nothing at his disposal except an offer of his work. Considering that doing so global issue not a single participant wants, the services of concert organizers are quite in demand. Moreover, in the first stages you can engage in this business almost alone.

This niche is relatively busy, so it will certainly be difficult for a beginner to take his place. The main limitation is pop culture; performers who have gained popularity today are already supervised by quite large companies, and in this case it is unlikely that they will be able to take over the work. And they won’t even help here anymore profitable terms– neither musicians nor their producers want to take risks by contacting an unknown company. In this case, it is better for no one to start with organizing concerts yet famous groups who want to go on stage, and there are many prospects here if you approach your business correctly. Also, everything depends on the degree of activity of the organizer; if he does not wait for people to come to him for services, but looks for clients on his own, then he can count on success. It is also worth noting that the scheme of work may differ slightly depending on many factors.

In order to start your own business, you should register as a subject entrepreneurial activity. The form of entrepreneurship can be any, although clients will be much more willing to work with a legal entity, and both partners and landlords will be more trusting of it. However, according to the law you can stay an individual by registering as individual entrepreneur. Among legal entities, the preferred form is a limited liability company - just as in the case of individual entrepreneurs, this is available simplified system taxation, allowing you to deduct 6% (of income) or 15% (of operating profit) to the state.

Registration of a legal entity will be somewhat longer, will require more significant investments, and the document flow in this case will be more serious. In general, if several people come together to organize a business, then they need to register entity, otherwise, in a one-person business, it is worth calculating future plan to determine the form of entrepreneurship. It is also important to correctly indicate OKVED codes, and similar activities fit the coding (OKPD 2) 93.29 Other services in the field of entertainment and recreation.

It is advisable to have your own premises; it will become a place where hired employees work and negotiations are held with clients. However, work can be organized without your own office, which often acts simply as a representative office. But this increases the prestige of the establishment in the eyes of partners. But in any case, the room does not have to be large, unless you plan to store props for concerts. Some companies organize their own printing house to print posters and leaflets, but this is not always economically feasible.

Work can be carried out in two directions: organizing a commissioned concert and organizing a concert with invited performers to it. In the first case, these will be their own concerts of groups and musicians, in the second - festivals and group concerts, at which teams of a similar genre, theme, or generally simply aimed at a certain category of listeners perform. Each entrepreneur decides which one to choose for himself, but no one forbids pursuing both directions at the same time. Only the second type of organizing concerts is an order of magnitude more complex than the first and requires significant experience in this field and the ability to attract many performers. Therefore, it is better to start by organizing concerts for specific groups, and only after that start working on your own festivals. They can bring much more profit, since sometimes they last several days rather than a couple of hours, but they also require a much more serious approach. Moreover, almost all the risks fall on the organizer himself, because he is the instigator of the event.

So, for your work, it is immediately advisable to find partners who are ready to provide their venues for the needs of concerts. However, in big cities It is unlikely that it will be possible to agree on the permanent provision of a stage - there are many others who want to use the rented space. Therefore, a site will most likely have to be found and negotiated with the owners every time it is needed. But this does not mean that this issue should not be dealt with before directly preparing for the expected event; it is necessary to have a list of possible objects, as well as keep information about their workload. In this case, at least informal a good relationship It is very advisable to establish an agreement with the owner of the site, this will allow you to negotiate a lease as soon as necessary.

Ready ideas for your business

But it should be noted that all artists have different requirements for the premises, and therefore you need to have several options in mind - from relatively inexpensive to elite halls with a large number of spectators. Depending on the format of the concert, the types of venues are also selected: we can give a conditional example that for symphonic music you need a hall with seating, but for a rock concert a platform with a simple dance floor is enough. Therefore, the latter are often organized in sports arenas or assembly halls. Music lovers will rarely deny themselves the pleasure of attending a concert of their favorite band just because it is taking place in an “inconvenient” establishment, in their opinion, but in another case, the consumer can draw many conclusions only from where the event is taking place.

IN Lately Events held in clubs have become very popular, and this option is attractive to listeners, as a rule, the musicians themselves like it, and it greatly simplifies the work of the organizer, because clubs, unlike sports arenas, already have lighting and sound equipment. And therefore, the increased cost of renting a club for one evening is offset by the absence of the need to rent part of the equipment. Moreover, many concerts are held on weekdays (when the club is not open or operates in a slightly different format, bar, for example) and therefore it is much easier to negotiate a discount.

Ready ideas for your business

The cost of sites varies greatly and depends on many factors. The most important thing is location, then comes size, format, options for additional equipment, and popularity of the place. The organizer must take all this into account, and all this is of interest to producers and musicians. They may refuse to give a concert if the venue is not worthy in the opinion of the artists, and here we are talking primarily about profit, and not about its prestige. And the organizer himself is probably interested in ensuring that the arena brings as much more money why so many famous musicians do not come to smaller cities: the point is not only that the population will not be able to buy expensive concerts, and sometimes vice versa, that there will be plenty of people willing, but the venue will not accommodate them, and its accommodation capabilities are unlikely to even cover its own expenses.

Next comes the search for sponsors for your event. At this stage, there are many options for cooperation, to the point that sponsors independently conduct an advertising campaign (though only in the channels available to them) and supply the organizer with the necessary facilities: printing house, equipment, personnel, ticket distribution. In principle, any partner can act as a sponsor, except for the musicians themselves and their producer or label. It's rare that a sponsor gives money directly to an organization; usually it's a barter, where some kind of assistance is provided in exchange for placing their logo, publicizing the sponsor at an event, and running promotions.

Sometimes this is even more profitable for the organizer, because the sponsor has the capabilities that allow him not to contact third-party companies, and then costs are reduced thanks to the partner’s advertising. Sponsor logos are usually placed on posters and banners - this is almost always required condition cooperation. If the mutual settlement is successful, sponsorship can turn out to be a very good saving or additional funds. True, when organizing concerts of little-known groups or simply a concert that is not particularly popular among the population, some companies that are good in terms of sponsorship support may refuse to cooperate or set very unfavorable conditions.

Sponsors will have to sell the future event, and their main criterion, as a rule, is the number of visitors. In addition, serious demands are placed on the advertising campaign; but it must be large enough for the benefit of the organizer. The most common, at least a little outdated, but still effective method advertising - posting posters in places specially provided for this and placing banners around the city. Usually they do this advertising agencies, who have sufficient connections and cooperation agreements to provide information placement about the upcoming event throughout the city. After all, personal posting of posters is gradually being replaced by more advanced and modern methods. If you have your own website, then, of course, it is worth posting information on it, although the organizer’s website is usually his business card for partners, and not for concert visitors, for them all information about the event is posted on their portal by the ticket distributor.

Ready ideas for your business

Next, you should negotiate with companies that are willing to rent out and supply lighting and sound equipment. As already noted, some venues themselves have it, in some (for example, in thematic clubs) everything is usually ready for any concert - come and play. But more often you have to find companies that rent equipment, negotiate delivery, installation and subsequent removal. The equipment itself is paid for either in packages (that is, for example, a complete set for jazz concert), or ordered separately, and the rental of each device is paid separately. In addition to standard light, you can get hold of laser, fire or some other light spectacular show(and you will have to hire the appropriate workers), and the sound is selected depending on the genre and characteristics of the playing (and even the concert itself) of the musicians. So, Symphony Orchestra plays live, but a rock band will require amplifiers, complex electronics, a drum set, bringing with them only guitars (and not always). Therefore, already at this stage it is necessary to have not only a concluded agreement with the group or their producer, but also to discuss the exact concept of the event.

Next comes the search for a ticket distributor. Some companies even combine these activities - ticket distribution and concert organization, but strictly speaking these are completely different companies. It is almost impossible to sell a large number of tickets without having all the possibilities, which is why an agreement is concluded with a company that, for a commission, will ensure the sale of tickets to the concert. You will have to cooperate very closely with this office, because it will partially take on the responsibilities for advertising, it will be the one who will accept money for tickets, which means that special demands must be made from it strict reporting. It won’t be possible to sell tickets only at the venue’s box office (which may not be available), you need an established scheme.

Negotiations with the musicians themselves take place either personally or through their producer - this is always the case, if there is one. The promoted group will present great amount requirements for their visit to a particular city, they need a hotel, food, and placement of props. Usually it is brought directly to the site, where all preparations take place in a few hours (less than a day). Thus, in addition to agreements with many companies that provide the event, you will also have to negotiate with organizations that will provide services to the musicians themselves, and this is a mandatory condition for artists before visiting the city - so that everything is arranged by the organizer himself. Thus, such a scheme usually involves a huge number of enterprises, between which the organizer runs and tries to launch this rather cumbersome scheme.

It’s better to start with little-known bands, acting as a replacement for the producer for them, but in this case it’s optimal to find several young talented bands and organize either a combined concert (that is, including several teams similar in genre) or a local festival. True, in the latter case, sometimes the bet is made not on the sale of tickets (and entry may even be free), but on the sale additional services at the festival. What this boils down to is that the organizer simply rents out places at the festival to vendors who profit from the large number of people in one place. Many beginning teams are sometimes ready to advocate only for an idea, wanting to announce themselves to the world, and do not require any part of the proceeds from the organizer. But here, too, he takes a big risk, organizing an event to which no one may come (usually, of course, friends and relatives invited by the musicians themselves come, but this does not save the situation). It’s worth starting with very local events, when you don’t have to risk a lot of money and there is an opportunity, if not to make a profit, then at least to gain experience.

It will take a lot of time before it will be possible to work individually for each team at its suggestion; Usually, famous musicians work only with big players who can organize an event (and sometimes even an entire tour) in the shortest possible time, raise a lot of money and start selling several months before the concert. In this case, beginners are not taken into account. Festivals, in the usual sense of the word, can be full-fledged if they are located in a convenient location, surrounded by the necessary infrastructure, are interesting to visitors and have a sufficient number of well-known teams performing at them. Events that span many days are, as a rule, beyond the capabilities of a novice player; but come up with your own new format no one forbids it.

The concert business will probably be very difficult at first, and for a long time you will have to work for the idea yourself, investing your efforts (and sometimes money) in order to simply earn a name for yourself. However, in in this case There are quite a lot of prospects, because, having managed to establish an ideal organization at all stages, you can successfully compete even with well-known companies that, it is possible, have shortcomings in one area or another.

Hello! Recently I have been more active in my band and have encountered some problems in organizing concerts. It turns out that when you have a group that can perform every day, other difficulties arise. I will tell you about these difficulties and how to deal with them in this short article.

So. The hardest part is over. You've assembled a great team, you find it easy mutual language with classmates and you manage to do things together cool music. You are excited and not only you notice it. Great. I must say that only a few reach this stage. The majority merge along the way: they don’t find musicians, they get tired of starting all over again, they give up music, give up concerts, fuck themselves and those around them for nothing, and all that jazz.

The first way is to sit straight on your butt.

Another 90% of the remaining survivors follow this path. This is an excellent strategy if your plans do not include conquering the world and the Olympic sports complex packed to capacity. I can't judge such people. Leadership is not for everyone. Everyone's eggs are different. Some are made of steel, some are made of papier-mâché. Actually, this is why not everyone is able to start their own business and devote their lives to it, preferring to work at work until retirement, at which time you will face the inevitable collapse of hopes and ambitions, an extreme drop in your own standard of living and, in general, complete disappointment in your chosen life path. Well, okay, that’s all for another article, maybe someday later I’ll talk about this topic in broader strokes.

What's wrong with sitting on your butt straight? And it’s not bad at all. Everything is the same as always - that is, nothing. You have a group, it seems to be doing something, performing somewhere and sometime, waiting to be invited, fed, watered and put to bed. It doesn't matter whether you have records or not. A cynical uncle with a dark past in show business once told me that “nobody just needs songs.” And no matter how painful it may be to one’s pride, one has to agree with him. Even if you have a 100% hit, it's not enough. We need a legend, we need it bright image, you need PR, otherwise everything is decay.

Decay is when you are not serious about your music and are not willing to risk everything for it. If you sit around and wait for someone to call you to play a concert, you have nothing to live for. Kill yourself and your lazy musicians, make room on stage for more active guys :) Ok, ok, I didn’t mean those for whom music is just a hobby, but the article is not about them either.

Path number 2 is the path of the Jedi.

You have been sitting around long enough waiting for a miracle and have already managed to gain fat and acquire some immobility and clumsiness in your actions and decisions. What, good news- this is that you are ready to change. As they say, the maggot realized. We take ourselves by the top of our heads and begin to methodically pull ourselves out of our own cozy swamp.

Let's move on to the main thing.

How to throw a concert for your band.

Here's your action plan:

  1. We are compiling a list of all clubs, bars, concert halls, where theoretically you could organize your gig.
  2. We find contacts of art directors and organizers who work in these clubs/bars/restaurants, etc. We write them letters or call them on the phone if they don’t read the letters. Let's find out the schedule for organizing the concert. If anyone has problems with competent speech and by letter, trust someone who will not let you down. You need to make the right impression at the beginning and your first question should not sound stupid. It would seem like simple logic, but logic, like literacy, is far from a universal trait.
  3. You have received answers to your questions. Someone sent you right away, someone asked “what kind of group is this?”, someone gave you completely acceptable demands, such as a percentage of the entrance, and someone unacceptable, such as renting a hall for the evening, and then at least you stir up drunken orgies.

If someone doesn’t understand me, the “percentage of entry” scheme is the best for a beginner music project. You bring n number of people to the concert, they buy tickets. The club takes part of the proceeds from ticket sales, the rest is yours. Of course, the club also makes money from the bar. The more the club makes from the bar, the happier their art director is and the more he will want to communicate with you in the future. So, a drinking public is good, no matter how blasphemous it may sound.

  1. We supplement our sign with contacts and addresses with information on schedules and prices/conditions. Why haven’t you put up such a sign yet? I'm annoyed.

It is useless to wonder whether it is possible to hold a concert tomorrow. Check at least a month in advance, preferably 1.5-2. If the site is large - six months in advance. But most likely, this is not your scale yet, so don’t worry. When it’s their turn, they will call you.

What you will inevitably encounter at the information gathering stage:

  1. Some clubs will refuse you under the pretext “it’s not the format of our establishment,” which in essence is complete bullshit. There is no such thing as an “institution format”; there is money or losses that you can bring to the club. If your group does not have a name (=the art director has not heard of you) and you are potentially unprofitable for the club, they will tell you “goodbye” at the very first stage of communication with them. Sadly. I encountered this while organizing concerts for my gang. But this is no reason to despair. And that's why.
  2. Some clubs will offer you to perform on their terms. Someone will give you an evening at a solo concert, and someone may offer you participation in another hodgepodge. Some clubs organize concerts themselves and recruit bands for the evening themselves. There are clubs without a name, new establishments that have not yet formed an audience and they grab every opportunity to make money. You need to work with such establishments. This benefits both you and them. It is useless for a small group to rent the Olympic sports complex if three friends and a couple of family members come to the concert. Peer cooperates with peer. A simple rule that is generally useful to know and repeat to yourself more often in life.

In any case you must understand 2 simple things

  1. Your group is your business. If you're not ready to start treating your music like a business, reread the point about hitting yourself against a wall.
  2. For the club, your performance is their business. They don’t have any euphoria or tenderness from your creative impulses and never will. There is only a dry balance - the cash register after the end of the event. There is money in the cash register - everything is ok. A lot of money - hurt yourself. Has the club gone into the red? You didn't bring any guests? They paid the bartender/waiter/sound engineer/cleaning lady/security guard. And you stupidly didn’t even work to zero? What conclusion will the art director of the club make? Right. He won't want to work with you anymore. Standing on the carpet of the owner of the establishment, he will report for your fakap, which became his fakap, which became the fakap of the establishment and put the owner into money. Law of communicating vessels.

Welcome to the entertainment industry!

Yes, I almost forgot about the prefabricated hodgepodges. There are quite a lot of such events. they are concerts for 4-7 groups, sometimes more. Everything happens in complete turmoil, it is impossible to adjust the sound, and even less so to make a proper impression on the audience with your performance. Organizers of such festivals often sell tickets to the bands themselves so that they can distribute them further. In general, this is the most pioneering, most terrible option. It’s bad because no one here has any professionalism, not the bands, not the organizers, not the sound engineer. Everything is complete schoolboy stuff. The emissions from such events are zero. They do not work for the image in any way. Treatment new audience? Doubtful. I can’t imagine a person who would trample on such a fest. For what? Should I drink some beer? Therefore, I simply do not consider the option of school matinees and immediately send such unfortunate organizers away or put a prohibitive price on our performance. The questions disappear by themselves.

Learn to be professionals. Learn to host your own concerts. Learn to put on your show and keep the listener in suspense. This is much more important than speaking in front of a crowd of teenagers who don't care about you. Be very selective about such events. I won't say they all suck, but for the most part they do.

A concert for 1-2-3 groups is ok. More than 3 is already too much. Or is it already a festival? open air type of Invasion. That is, not our format yet.

So, you've got yourself a date to perform YOURSELF. And now the fun begins.

How to fill a hall with people?

You make a poster, create events on Facebook and VKontakte, spam all your friends with a message about the upcoming wonderful gig. And you observe how many people express a desire to go to the concert, some part will say “maybe.” Most people won't care about your concert. An excellent test of your friends' loyalty.

At this stage I stop my story, because... I cannot give any recommendations regarding PR events, as this topic has not been covered by me yet. This is what I've been thinking about the most lately. It is not possible to experiment so often, because... There is no point in performing more than once a month, people quickly get tired of your music, and access to a new audience is a difficult thing. If you have thoughts on this matter, share them in the comments, I will be happy to discuss with you ways to expand the fan base and attract new audiences to my work.

If you think in economic terms, then your group is a new brand that you are promoting to the market. A brand must provide some value to the consumer in order for them to want to buy it. Here a lot of questions arise about image formation, naming (yeah, what you named the group is very important), and a unique selling proposition. This also includes work on brand awareness, promotional campaigns, content creation, content promotion. Your content is music, video, photo materials and interviews. This also includes direct advertising (posters, flyers, Internet (ppc, smm)), etc. As you can see, this is a pretty serious game and overall quite expensive. There must be guerrilla methods that will allow you to take the first steps before you break even (reach self-sufficiency, pass the break-even point). You can only learn what works and what doesn’t through your own experience and mistakes. Nobody wants to burn chips.

I read a lot of articles about the music business. And by and large they are all about nothing. And here's why: this business is given an undeserved aura of exclusivity and unusualness. But in essence - the same eggs, only in profile. You are an artist, you are a product. You are responsible for the quality of the product, but in order for it to be bought, it must be promoted. And this is all in textbooks on economics, management and marketing, just in slightly different words. There are two ways - to work according to demand and to be the Ivanushki group. They earn ok, but the music is complete crap. + Such projects have a high financial threshold for entering the market. In other words, you need to pump a lot of money into promotion at the first stage for it to take off. The second way is to create your own brand and your own trend little by little... The path of Steve Jobs. The path is difficult and life may not be enough. This is the way creative people. If the craft is more important to you, just sell yourself to the producer. Just be prepared that he will choose from hundreds of people just like you. And you may not be the most genetically valuable material.

Respect for reading and patience:) Music is cool. Creating a group is just the beginning.

I don’t know how everything happens in the big cities of our country. I’m from Petrozavodsk. The Internet is a good driver in this matter, in my opinion! It all depends on what areas the group itself wants to cover... In the sense of performing in Europe, in Russia or somewhere else. ..I’ll just express my ideas on this topic... It makes sense to write not only demos, singles, but also videos. For example, record a group at rehearsals from different angles, just play one thing, which in the opinion of the group is its own hit, so to speak from existing repertoire, select stage image and pump it up as you would do it at a concert. At the same time, try to show your directorial talent based on your concept as a whole or turn to someone for help so that it is filmed with soul. After all, probably through friends there will be a photographer who can take good pictures and he will turn out to be someone’s acquaintance and he will be interested, especially if he has not photographed something like this and this will be an experience for him and he will get mutual assistance, it is also possible to work with a video operator. In our circle, for example there are such people, thank God. Of course, not for free, but for an affordable price since people have experience filming. Yes, it won’t be a super duper video like the popular gangs, but it can be done in an acceptable underground quality. And it will be small but it’s a movement that can make a big impact. It all depends on how competently it’s all worked out. The same with singles and demos. And post the so-called product on YouTube on social networks wherever possible. This is a very good help! Regarding concerts. The best thing is to get to open for a famous group, you may have to pay, but it all depends on the situation, but it can be considered as an option! Or a concert with two or three unknown bands and a headliner (Participating in incomprehensible hodgepodges also makes sense, only somewhere in at the beginning, at the end no one will give a shit about who is playing there, someone will get drunk, and someone will get tired of it, because for example, your comrades played before you so that their ears could no longer withstand this mockery). It makes sense to make a banner not big size with the name and logo of the group and hang it during your performance above the drum kit or in another place visible to everyone, unless of course the organizer allows this. If someone likes your music, so as not to ask the question - “What kind of group is this?” The problem with sound is not only here in PTZ but in St. Petersburg, according to my musician friends who went to perform in St. Petersburg Clubs. As for Moscow, I don’t know how it is there. Not everyone has the opportunity to carry a backline with them, and most don’t have one yet... But it also can’t always save the situation. But higher percentage the fact that you will still stand out from the rest of the participants and this will attract the attention of the listener. Especially when your equipment is set up, the sound engineer will set a bypass on his remote control and will thank you that he doesn’t need to do anything). Or take a floor-standing one with you preamp, which will save the situation a little....

I'm trying my hand at promoting a very successful music project and am looking for all the information that relates to this :) Your article shed light on some remaining questions :)

Maxim, thank you. Much of your article was already clear to me, but I found something useful for myself.

Maxim, thank you. You should have answered, you can be understood.)))

Interesting article, thanks. I paid attention to “.. and you can make cool music together.” How do you make sure your music is cool? Since the beginning of the 2000s, to my ears, no one worthy has appeared. In addition, there is a feeling that all the niches are occupied, and simply no one wants to deal with young people, and it’s good without them. All that remains is to wish you patience.

Still, promotion is promotion, and the quality of the material should be very good. Sadly, on our stage the listenable bands can be counted on one hand, and those you want to listen to again are even fewer. And these groups best case scenario Some performances are held abroad, or at worst they stop playing. So, in my opinion, there are two ways: - find a local niche and squeeze all the juice out of it through promotion, image and other non-musical means, and there may be some income, since there will be a large audience here; - be critical of your music, compare it with foreign music, and often ask yourself the question whether you yourself would listen to this, whether something outstanding has really been created or just another passable material. In the second case, if the answers to all questions are positive, the main thing is to ensure maximum accessibility of the material. I agree about the concert hodgepodges (as they happen in Moscow). They are only suitable for training to perform on stage in poor conditions. And here are the thematic festivals that he goes to: the right audience, can be a good intermediate step on the way to their solo concerts.

Intragroup psychology of interpersonal relationships, PR, marketing of the pop industry is of course interesting... But damn - boring). That’s what I thought when I saw the title) - That your store will ORGANIZE A MEETING-PARTY-CONCERT FOR ITS CUSTOMERS!. Where you will play and the buyers and in general - We will all have a “club” and a club meeting) - that would be interesting) I would pay for the ticket with pleasure)

I agree with the article, but only partially. Firstly, maybe what was described is suitable for Moscow or St. Petersburg, but since I live on the happy periphery in the city of Krasnoyarsk, such a promotion format will be VERY difficult for us. Of all the groups in our city, only 2 groups can be distinguished that really followed the path solo concerts and image promotion and achieved some kind of recognition. However, the fact remains that, for the most part, over the years of existence, they spend more money on music than they earn from it. Secondly, in our city there is only 1 (with a population of one million) club, which constantly hosts concerts of groups playing their music. Everything else is taverns for labukhs and 90% of musicians earn money from this. Periodically, concerts like Emerjanza or festivals are held, as described in the article with “hodgepodges”, but they can be wildly cool and the most seasoned bands try to play there. Therefore, I consider the feature about “not performing at Solyanka” to be ineffective, since the market will always dictate its conditions, and in these conditions you need to perform at every opportunity, ESPECIALLY if it is a cool fest, even with 10 groups. And most importantly: I have never seen a single group that plays their own material and that starts earning money from the first concerts, also giving solo albums. To do solo shows in clubs, and even to have people come to see you when you are unknown to anyone except your friends, is simply unrealistic. The only way out for this option is to rent a club at your own expense, do advertising at your own expense, pay for small expenses at your own expense, pay for filming performances and parties at your own expense, and everything else... of course, at your own expense.

Well, imagine that you want to give a concert to group X.

1. First you need acquaintances. Art directors, concert managers of clubs. To begin with, you will find out the amount for the site. That is, it can be either a fixed amount (in large halls) or a percentage of tickets. These wonderful people you will learn about available dates. Now you need to meet the band or their manager, or a concert agent, or some other super-duper Argonaut merchandiser. And if you manage to interest both the first and second, and then magically match everyone’s numbers, then the first step has been taken. Often matching musicians and venues by dates and times can be more difficult than anything else on the list below.

2. Amount of money. Now you should understand what you need pay:
-To the group BEFORE the concert (There are three types of payment: if the group is famous and collects from 300 and more people, then as a rule it is a fixed fee. Sometimes bands play for a percentage of the tickets, but this is rare. And even less common is the system “the first N thousand go to the club, the rest to the group.” Last type happens in small clubs for 100-200 people). By the way, most bands accept fees in dollars. Without disclosing specific amounts and personalities, I will say that the average popular group usually costs 1000-2000 bucks. Famous guys from 5000 green and above;

- Pay for their travel and rider , where there can be anything at all: from a table, a chair, a bottle of whiskey to the presence of an Arizona beaver at the age of 3 and a half years in the dressing room. Be prepared to look for and buy any nonsense if you are bringing famous guys. Although in practice, most often the rider consists of “tickets to your city, food, sleep.” By the way, about the Arizona beaver - a real case;

- Pay for the site. And associated expenses in the form of your own travel to the club, then to your home, to the airport/train station and back. It seems like a small thing, but it costs a pretty penny;

- Advertising. This is the worst thing. The overall attendance at your event depends on this point, so hire yourself a good SMM and PR person. This will deprive you of part of the profit, it would seem, but without these people your concert will attract, say, 200 people. And with them 500. So they will bring you more income than expenses. Finding them, by the way, is not so difficult: remember the latest high-profile events and concerts that your ears were buzzing about, find meetings in VK and there will already be contacts of these people.

3. Lots of free time. You will have to actually advertise the event. According to the "publics" of the city, according to musical communities. It could be putting up posters, handing out leaflets, targeting, mailings to group members, etc. As I said, advertising is the worst thing. And even if you have a PR specialist and a master’s degree in SMM, this will not save you from the hardships of working on your own. In addition, it is also necessary to agree on a sound check for the musicians and book them a hotel (if necessary). A separate problem is the sound system. If the group doesn’t have a sound guy with them, then you need to find a normal one. Otherwise, you run the risk of bumping into a drunkard apprentice, after which the fans will stretch you to the very skies. Moreover, big clubs usually have their own person, but you shouldn’t rely on his professionalism. We still live in Russia. Stands with merchandise, sponsors if available. In general, promotion is everything you can do to interest and diversify the concert in conjunction with productive work.

4. After the event, when you have paid everyone, you may have some pennies left. You can buy yourself some tissues and wipe your face from tears. After the first few concerts, you will probably get the feeling that you are helping people hear the music, helping them just relax and feel a little happier. And the topic of money will somehow disappear by itself. But these are temporary difficulties. There is no point in dreaming that from your first concert you will collect enough money for a comfortable old age. In general, I don’t recommend expecting any sky-high results. Start with three or four concerts for little-known bands. Immerse yourself, so to speak, in all the beauty of organizational activity. And there you will already understand whether you really need it.
