Folk proverbs and sayings for children. Do people need proverbs? And is it possible to live without them? What are proverbs and sayings

Zelenetsky Dmitry

With proverbs and sayings we begin to get acquainted with very early age. Already to the little toddler, who is capricious during a walk and does not want to climb the mountain himself so that he can move down it later, his mother says: “If you love to ride, love to carry a sled!” And if a child quickly and haphazardly makes something, then a caring grandmother will tell him more than once: “Measure seven times, cut once.” So what are these apt expressions? Just five, six words, and sometimes there’s a whole science behind them! And who composes them? And why are there so many of them, for every moment of life? And if you don’t know them at all and don’t use them, is it possible to live? To answer these and other questions, I conducted research.

Introduction

Subject of study -Proverbs and sayings.

We begin to become familiar with proverbs and sayings from a very early age.

Purpose of the study:

Study the role of proverbs in people's lives and prove their necessity in the life of a modern person.

Research objectives:

  • Familiarize yourself with a variety of literature on this issue, including using the Internet.
  • Conduct a study of classmates’ knowledge in this area (questionnaire).
  • Conduct a literary hour in class on the topic “How do we know proverbs?”
  • Home experiment.
  • Compile a collection of fairy tale proverbs.

Proverbs.

What is a proverb?

“Proverbs are... when they are coherent and accurate.”

To find out more about what proverbs are, I went to the children's library (Appendix 2). The first book I opened was the collection of Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl (Appendix 3). IN " Explanatory dictionary living Great Russian language" by V. I. Dahl, which was published in the 60s of the 19th century, collected about 30 thousand proverbs (Appendix 1).

Proverbs are the smallest genre of oral folk art, but they cover the most diverse aspects of people's lives. A proverb is always an apt judgment. They are folded, polished and often have rhythm and rhyme. The proverbs are simple and brief, but entire books worth of thought and feeling are put into them. Maxim Gorky wrote that they “condense the labor experience of countless generations.” A proverb is a judgment about life, the result of observations of life, a conclusion from some facts. It is said in order to convince of something, call for something, approve, praise, condemn, ridicule. A proverb is folk wisdom, a set of rules for life, historical memory and the experience of the people.

The history of proverbs.

From books I learned that proverbs appeared a long time ago. They are one of the first manifestations of folk art. Proverbs are the oral and poetic chronicle of the country. On ancient origin Proverbs also indicate that they often include elements of folk mythology and pagan ideas about the world around us. For example, we say: “He planted the pig.” It turns out that the origin of this saying has to do with the military tactics of the ancient Slavs: the squad crashed into the enemy’s formation like a wedge like a pig’s head, cutting it into two parts.

Initially, the purpose of proverbs was to pass on experience to younger generations. It is interesting that the people who created the proverbs did not know how to read and write, so keep and pass on your life experience They simply couldn’t do it any other way than through proverbs. Why do you think proverbs, despite their thousand-year history, still remain popular? A proverb is not a simple saying, and not every saying is a proverb. The immortality of proverbs lies in their fidelity to life observations and the importance of their wise thoughts. They express the people’s assessment of life, and therefore the people value and protect them. Behind each proverb is the authority of the generations that created them. Proverbs do not argue, they do not prove - they simply affirm or deny something in the confidence that everything they say is true. For example - “What goes around comes around”

Proverbs - what are they?

“This is how simply our men compose.

It’s simple, there are few words, but a lot of feelings.”

L. N. Tolstoy. Proverbs are very rarely calm. They, like people, are sometimes angry and sometimes sad. Or they are having fun, teasing, groaning, frightening, warning, teaching, indignant. They are omnipresent. They touch all objects and invade all areas of human life.

The famous V.I. Dal, a collector and great connoisseur of Russian folklore, identified 179 headings for his proverbs (family, friendship, work, lies, neatness...) (Appendix 4).

One of the important goals of proverbs is the desire to instill in people certain assessments of the phenomena of reality, life, and human behavior. Proverbs serve to instill positive ideals - courage, honesty, kindness, camaraderie, friendship, patriotism. Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol wrote: “They have everything: mockery, ridicule, reproach, in a word, everything that stirs and tugs at the living.” Advantages of proverbs:

SHAPE –The proverb speaks beautifully.

Briefness –Small spool but precious.

Warehouse, warehouse - A good proverb - in good order and in good taste.

TRUTH- The proverb tells the truth to everyone.

W isdom - A stupid speech is not a proverb.

Ubiquity– You can’t escape the proverb.

Courage - According to the proverb, there is no trial or reprisal.

Proverbs are very easy to remember. No one will remember a proverb without reason or reason. They always come to mind in conversation on occasion. Despite the apparent simplicity and ease of proverbs, they are poetic miniatures. They contain:

Oppositions –The man and the dog are always in the yard, and the woman and the cat are always in the hut.

Explanations – The matchmaker had to sit on the stove: winter found him in a light dress.

Comparisons – The bad in armfuls, the good in a pinch.

Allegories - To live with wolves is to howl like a wolf.

Proverbs and sayings love to play with names. Often names are used for structure and rhyme.Every Fedorka has his own excuses. The height of Ivan, but the mind of a blockhead. Don’t rely, Roman, on someone else’s pocket.

Proverbs and sayings - what is common and what is the difference?

A proverb is a short parable. This is a judgment, a sentence, a teaching. But sayings do not generalize anything, they do not teach anyone, they hint. Proverbs are framed as sentences. They are a generalization of centuries-old people's experience. And sayings are, as it were, part of a proverb. A saying is a roundabout expression, a simple allegory, an eloquent expression. This is a phrase or phrase.

“What a luxury, what a meaning in every saying of ours. What kind of gold"

A. S. Pushkin

Why are sayings needed? With their help, you can characterize the subject more clearly and imaginatively.A proverb is a flower, a proverb is a berry. There are a lot of sayings. They are very emotional, they contain indignation, admiration, contempt, hatred.Pouting like a turkey - offended. Thick as a barrel -fat, ugly. How cheese rolls in butter - lives richly. He said that he gave him a ruble. Like water off a duck's back. Keep your nose to the wind. The proverb does not name things directly, it hints very clearly.

Proverbs of different nations.

Each people is the keeper and collector of its own wisdom. Proverbs are the pearls of such wisdom.

Very interesting Chinese proverbs.Happy is not the one who receives a gift, but the one who gives a gift. A wise man demands everything only from himself, while an insignificant man demands everything from others.

Georgian proverbs. The branch bends while it is young, but once it grows, you can’t bend it. The fool loses, the wise man picks up. Iron is tempered in fire, but man is in need. He who envies someone else's happiness will not see his own. While the smart one was thinking, the stupid one crossed the mountains.

Abkhazian proverb:As you clap your hands, so I dance.

Russian equivalent: As it comes back, so will it respond.

English proverb:He who sleeps with dogs will wake up with fleas.

Russian equivalent: Whoever you hang out with, that's how you'll gain.

Proverbs and sayings different countries are very similar to each other, because at all times and among all peoples such human vices, such as cowardice, greed, laziness, and such qualities as resourcefulness, hard work, kindness, on the contrary, were welcomed and respected.

God and faith in proverbs and sayings.

When I read the collection of Russian folk proverbs by V.I. Dahl (Appendix 5), I very often came across proverbs that mentioned God, faith, and the church. I realized that for the Russian people, faith in God and life are one whole.

To live is to serve God. With faith you will not be lost anywhere.

Whoever does good will be blessed by God.

Man proposes, but God disposes.

God loves trinity. A holy place is never empty.

God loves the righteous, but the devil loves the sneaky.

Force a man to pray to God, and he will bruise his forehead.

Until the thunder strikes, the man will not cross himself.

In many families, I think, these and other Christian proverbs are used. The Orthodox people usually call on God for help before any serious matter.

Start with God and end with the Lord.

He who crosses himself and works, receives God's help.

Take your time, pray to God first(Appendix 6).

Studying the role of proverbs and sayings in the lives of classmates.

Questionnaire for classmates and their parents.

To understand how familiar my comrades are with proverbs and sayings, I suggested literary hour, dedicated to this topic, two questionnaires. One at the beginning (Appendix 7), and the other at the end (Appendix 8). At the beginning the results looked like this.

I depicted the analysis of the results obtained in a diagram.

We see that we mostly hear proverbs from the very adult generation - from our grandparents - about 60%. Our parents use them much less—only about 20%. But almost the same amount - about 17% - we hear proverbs in lessons from Natalya Fedorovna.

And we very rarely use proverbs when talking to each other.

The majority of the guys - 65% - know that proverbs are written by the people. 20% of the kids think that proverbs are invented by writers. 15%, it turns out, think they are written by scientists. In addition, I offered a questionnaire for parents. (Appendix 9).

This is what the results looked like:

The following proverbs are most often used among the adult generation:

You can’t even take a fish out of the pond without difficulty. – 50% of respondents.

Business before pleasure. – 30% of respondents.

Measure seven times and cut once. – 10% of respondents.

An old friend is better than two new ones. – 10% of respondents.

Class hour on the topic: “Proverbs are so interesting!”

To get the kids interested in this topic, I came up with several different tasks:

  1. You need to correctly complete the proverb or insert the necessary word. (Appendix 10)
  2. Connect different halves of proverbs to form correct proverb. (Appendix 11)
  3. Make up proverbs from key words. (Appendix 12)
  4. Explain the meaning of proverbs. (Appendix 13)
  5. Dividing the class into 3 groups, hold a competition - who knows more proverbs in different topics and explain their meaning:

Numbers in proverbs

Animals in proverbs

Seasons and months in proverbs

Friendship and Motherland in proverbs (Appendix 14)

6) With joint efforts and with the help of teacher Natalya Fedorovna, try to solve two crossword puzzles. (Appendix 15, 16)

At the end of the lesson on proverbs and sayings, I conducted a repeat survey.

The results looked like this:

Carrying out an analysis as a result of repeated questioning, we see that the children’s interest in proverbs and sayings has increased significantly.

If at the beginning of the lesson about 30% of the children did not know the proverbs and 90% did not use them, then at the end almost everyone was very interested in getting to know them and almost all the children did not doubt their necessity in our lives.

During class hour The children had a lot of fun guessing proverbs and trying to explain their meaning. A lot of new proverbs were introduced to the children in this lesson. Together and with the help of Natalya Fedorovna, we solved very interesting crossword puzzles.

And how many more interesting things could be done! You can come up with your own life stories on the topic of any proverb. You can come up with puzzles.

Home experiment: “A day with proverbs.”

When I was trying to answer the question: “Is it possible to live without proverbs?”, I decided to conduct a small experiment in my life.

I decided to find out if I could live one day using only proverbs and sayings? And what will it look like? Maybe I won't be able to express all my feelings this way? Mom decided to help me. Just in case, I found myself an assistant - School Dictionary - “Proverbs, sayings and popular expressions”

Early in the morning, my mother came to my room, opened the curtains and woke me up with the words:Whoever gets up early, God gives him.I got up and ran to wash myself, singing out loud: In a healthy body - healthy mind.

When I sat down to breakfast and made a dissatisfied face at the sight of the porridge, my mother said:Porridge is our mother, bread is our breadwinner.

After breakfast I sat down to my homework. Then proverbs began to come to my mind one after another.Learning is light and ignorance is darkness.

When I got up to play, my mother sat me down with the words:Business before pleasure.

When I cried and could not learn the verse, my mother encouraged me with owls:The eyes are afraid, but the hands do it. The one who walks will master the road.

At school there were also many reasons to remember proverbs. True, the theme there has already changed. I remembered more about friendship. An old friend is better than two new ones.(This is when friends helped in the “battle”).

When I received a bad mark for behavior, I was very upset. I even wanted to tear out a leaf from the diary. Good thing I remembered:Everything secret becomes clear. A lie won't get you far.

I walked home with a heavy heart. However, I decided to confess right away.Without truth there is no living, but a howling.Better the bitter truth than the sweet lie. I realized this a long time ago. Of course my mother scolded me. Strongly. Punished. And then I forgave.Maternal anger is like spring snow: a lot will fall, but it will soon melt,There is no friend like my dear mother.

And in the evening, when I had done all my homework, I went for a walk. And my mother accompanied me with words: You've done the job, go for a walk boldly. And so my proverbial day ended. I realized that all feelings can be expressed in proverbs, and more than one. And how colorful and accurate! It doesn’t work out that way with simple words!

Fairy tales in proverbs.

While studying literature about proverbs, I decided to make a book for little 1st grade schoolchildren. In it I compared the Russians folk tales with proverbs suitable in meaning (Appendix 17).K different fairy tales it was even possible to pick up several proverbs. The book turned out to be interesting and colorful. Using the example of fairy tales, little children will become familiar with proverbs and sayings.

A fairy tale is a lie, but there is a hint in it, good fellows lesson.

Conclusion.

I learned a lot of new and interesting things about proverbs and sayings, and tried to stir up interest in this topic among my classmates and their parents. And if, as a result of my activities, some proverb was heard among friends and their families, even just one, that’s great. So I didn’t work in vain. Nowadays, people stop communicating with each other in person. Human communication is being replaced by wordless metal gadgets. We no longer write letters to relatives. We rarely make phone calls. We stop visiting. We stop communicating. We'll soon forget how to talk. But if we try not to forget the proverbs, this will not happen! After all, proverbs and sayings enrich and decorate our language. A. M. Gorky wrote: “You need to know our rich folklore, especially our amazing, clear, apt proverbs and sayings.” Familiarity with proverbs is very important from an early age. They're like " living water" Proverbs teach us how to live. They guide us through life. They teach friendship, work, respect for elders and parents. Sometimes no other words can be said as aptly and succinctly, wisely and valuablely as the proverb says. We really need them. They decorate our lives. Proverbs are the vitality of our language, the intelligence and erudition of the speaker. And their correct use in our speech reflects the level of good manners, education and culture. Proverbs and sayings have always remained and will remain relevant, despite the development of the economy and technology, and progress. I think that it is impossible to live without proverbs. It just won't work. A normal Russian person always has proverbs on his tongue. They are embedded in us from birth. We have no right to forget them. They contain our history, our life, our strength and wisdom.
