Traditional international festival Circle of Light 2017 will be held this year in Moscow for the seventh time from September 23 to 27.

The Circle of Light Festival will be the most striking visual and sound spectacle this fall in Moscow.

Six sites have been selected to exhibit all the events of the Circle of Light festival, where residents of the capital and guests of Moscow will be able to see it all.

Circle of light. Ostankino 2017. September 23-24, 20.00 – 21.15

The opening of the festival will take place in Ostankino and coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Ostankino Tower. Every minute the TV tower will take on images of the most famous skyscrapers in the world. This is the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building in New York. All the world's high-rise buildings from the USA, France, Canada, UAE, China and Australia.

Ostankino pond will also become the arena for a multimedia light show. Viewers will see Lavender Fields, Niagara Falls, Yellowstone Park and Bamboo Flute Caves, and visit the Sahara and the Great Barrier Reef.

The multimedia show will complement the real one ice show with the skaters.

The Circle of Light festival will take place in Moscow for the seventh time and promises to become one of the most spectacular events of the coming autumn. By tradition, all performances, as well as training seminars by lighting design masters, are held at city venues in a publicly accessible free format, annually attracting an audience of millions, including residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, Russian and foreign tourists. Thus, in 2016, “Circle of Light” reached record attendance figures - more than 6 million people in five days.

In 2017, the Circle of Light will be held at six venues. The opening ceremony of the festival will take place on September 23 in Ostankino. The main television tower of the country in this year celebrates its half-century anniversary. The technology of projecting three-dimensional images onto an architectural object - video mapping - will allow the birthday girl to “try on” the images of the seven tallest buildings in the world. The famous skyscrapers and TV towers of France, the UAE, Canada, the USA, China, Japan and Australia will appear before the audience against the backdrop of the natural attractions of these countries, due to the Year of Ecology taking place in Russia. Fountains, burners, and lighting devices will be installed on the Ostankino pond. Theater Square, familiar to regular viewers of the Circle of Light, will use the façades of both the Bolshoi and Maly theaters for performances for the first time this year. On September 27, in the waters of the Stroginsky backwater, at the end of the Moscow International Festival “Circle of Light”, for the first time in Russia, spectators will be treated to a large-scale 30-minute pyrotechnic show from Japanese manufacturers.

Spectators can expect a bright and unforgettable 30-minute Japanese pyrotechnic show, which has no analogues in Russia. Hundreds of pyrotechnic charges will be launched from four barges installed in the waters of the Stroginsky backwater, the largest of which, 600 mm caliber, has never been presented in Russia before.

Japanese fireworks are unique in their properties and have no analogues in the world. They surpass other fireworks in their color and brightness, and the manual production process, passed down from time immemorial, makes each projectile a true work of art.

Digital October

From year to year, the Digital October platform remains a constant meeting place for famous professionals in the field of visual art and aspiring light artists.

An educational program consisting of lectures, seminars and practical classes helps beginners master the basics and reveals many secrets and subtleties in working with light.

On September 23 and 24, the center will host educational lectures by lighting designers and creators of laser installations. Admission is free subject to pre-registration on the festival website.

Concert Hall "MIR"

On September 24, the “Art Vision VJ” competition will take place at the “Mir” theater and concert hall on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. Teams from different countries will compete in the skill of creating light images to music.

Spectators will witness a competitive competition of the best light and music artists in the direction of VJing. Participants will demonstrate 10-minute VJ sets, where in real time they will create completely new works using unexpected visual images and video fragments to the music being performed.
